창2:18-25

131. 여기서부터는 태고 교회의 후손들 이야기인데, 이들은 선조들과 달리 자신의 오운(own, proprium, 本性)(주3), 자신의 것, 자기 자신을 향해 기울어진 사람들입니다. The posterity of the most ancient church, which inclined to their own,(주3) is here treated of.

※ 즉, 자기 주도적 삶(a sense of autonomy)을 지독하게 추구하며 산 사람들, 주님에게서 철저하게 독립하고자, 분리하고자 했던, 그래서 실제로 그렇게 된 사람들입니다.

18여호와 하나님이 이르시되 사람이 혼자 사는 것이 좋지 아니하니 내가 그를 위하여 돕는 배필을 지으리라 하시니라 And Jehovah God said, It is not good that the man should be alone, I will make him a help as with him.

132. 사람은 주님의 인도를 받으며 살기보다는 혼자 알아서 세상에 기대 살거나 자신의 본성(own)을 따라 사는 걸 더 원하기 때문에, 여기서는 인류에게 허락된 그런 본성을 다루고 있습니다. (18절) Since man is such as not to be content to be led by the Lord, but desires to be led also by himself and the world, or by his own, therefore the own which was granted him is here treated of (verse 18).

And Jehovah God formed out of the ground every beast of the field, and every fowl of the heavens, and brought it to the man to see what he would call it; and whatsoever the man called every living soul, that was the name thereof. 20아담이 모든 가축과 공중의 새와 들의 모든 짐승에게 이름을 주니라 아담이 돕는 배필이 없으므로 And the man gave names to every beast, and to the fowl of the heavens, and to every wild animal of the field; but for the man there was not found a help as with him.

133. 그래서 먼저 주님은 그에게 선에 관한 애정들과 진리에 관한 지식들을 선물로 주십니다. 그러나 사람은 여전히 자기 본성을 향해 기울어지는 가운데 있습니다. (19-20절) And first it is given him to know the affections of good and the knowledges of truth with which he is endowed by the Lord; but still he inclines to his own (verses 19–20).

And Jehovah God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in the place thereof. 22여호와 하나님이 아담에게서 취하신 그 갈빗대로 여자를 만드시고 그를 아담에게로 이끌어 오시니 And the rib which Jehovah God had taken from the man, he built into a woman, and brought her to the man. 23아담이 이르되 이는 내 뼈 중의 뼈요 살 중의 살이라 이것을 남자에게서 취하였은즉 여자라 부르리라 하니라 And the man said, This now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; therefore she shall be called wife, because she was taken out of man [vir].

134. 이런 이유로, 사람은 자기 본성(own)의 상태 안으로 깊이 인도되며, 어떤 또 하나의 본성(own)이 그에게 주어지는데, 이것을 여자로 빚어지는 갈빗대로 묘사하고 있습니다. (21-23절) Wherefore he is let into a state of his own, and an own is given him, which is described by the rib built into a woman (verses 21 to 23).

※ ‘자기 본성’은 피조물로서의 고유 본성, 자기 자신을 말합니다.

※ 여기 ‘또 하나의 본성’은 주님에게서 독립하고자 하는 본성, 자기 마음대로 살고자 하는 본성을 말합니다. 영어로는 a sense of autonomy 정도로 표현할 수 있겠습니다.

24이러므로 남자가 부모를 떠나 그의 아내와 합하여 둘이 한 몸을 이룰지로다 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh.

135. 천적 생명과 영적 생명이 사람의 본성과 붙어 있게 되고, 그렇게 해서 이 둘은 하나로 보이게 됩니다. (24절) Celestial and spiritual life are adjoined to the man’s own, so that they appear as a one (verse 24).

※ ‘남자가 부모를 떠나’, 즉, 속사람으로부터 멀어져 겉이 된 사람, 그러나 주님의 자비로 주님의 천적, 영적 생명이 본인 모르게 입류에 의해 겉, 곧 육과 하나가 됩니다. 마치 리메인스를 차곡차곡 쌓으시는 것처럼 말이지요.

25아담과 그의 아내 두 사람이 벌거벗었으나 부끄러워하지 아니하니라 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

136. 그리고 주님으로부터 순진함이 이 본성 안으로 스며드는데요, 덕분에 사람은 여전히 주님께 열납될 수 있습니다. (25절) And innocence from the Lord is instilled into this own, so that it still might not be unacceptable (verse 25).

The first three chapters of Genesis treat in general of the most ancient church, which is called “man” [homo] from its first period to its last, when it perished; the preceding part of this chapter treats of its most flourishing state, when it was a celestial man; here it now treats of those who inclined to their own, and of their posterity.

※ 각주

3. 이 표현에 대한 원전 표현은 라틴어 프로프리움(proprium)입니다. 다른 데서는 ‘오운’(own, 특성, 특징, 특색, 자기 것, 소유)이라는 표현으로 의역되고 있습니다. The Latin word proprium is the term used in the original text that in this and other places has been rendered by the expression “own.” 프로프리우스(propius)의 형용사로서의 사전적 의미는 ‘(남의 것이 아닌) 자기 자신의 (것인)’(one’s own), ‘고유한, 원래의’(proper), ‘개인 소유의’(belonging to one’s self alone), ‘특별한, 특유한, 특수한’(special), ‘독특한, 남다른, 독자적인’(particular), ‘개인적인’(peculiar) 등입니다. The dictionary meaning of propius, as an adjective, is “one’s own,” “proper,” “belonging to one’s self alone,” “special,” “particular,” “peculiar.” 이 말의 중성 표현인 프로프리움이라는 단어는 명사로 사용되면 그 의미가 ‘소유’(possession), ‘특성’(property) 및 ‘특이점’(a peculiarity), ‘특징’(characteristic mark), ‘구별되는 점’(distinguishing sign), ‘특유함’(characteristic) 등입니다. The neuter of this which is the word proprium, when used as a noun means “possession,” “property”; also “a peculiarity,” “characteristic mark,” “distinguishing sign,” “characteristic.” 영어 형용사 ‘오운’(own)에 대한 웹스터의 정의들은 ‘...에 속한’(belonging to), ‘... The English adjective “own” is defined by Webster to mean “belonging to,” “belonging exclusively or especially to,” “peculiar”; so that our word “own” is a very exact equivalent of proprius, and if we make it a noun in order to answer to the Latin proprium, we effect a very close translation.
