체어리티(charity)란 무엇인가 (2025/10/14)

 

체어리티(charity), 곧 신앙의 선함이 있을 때, 그때 인정(acknowledgment), 곧 신앙의 진리가 있습니다. 그러므로 사람이 지식, 이성, 그리고 이해에 속한 것들로 말미암아 거듭나고 있을 때, 그 목적은 체어리티를 받을 수 있는 토대, 즉 그의 마음을 준비하는 것입니다. 그 체어리티로부터, 혹은 그 체어리티로 사는 삶으로부터 그는 그로 말미암아 생각하고 행동하게 되지요. 그렇게 그는 변화, 곧 거듭나는 것이지, 그전에는 아닙니다. When charity is present, which is the goodness of faith, then acknowledgment is present, which is the truth of faith. When therefore a man is being regenerated according to the things of knowledge, of reason, and of understanding, it is to the end that the ground may be prepared—that is, his mind—for receiving charity; from which, or from the life of which, he thereafter thinks and acts. Then he is reformed or regenerated, and not before. (AC.654, 창6:16)

 

체어리티는 주님 사랑이라는 영이 이웃 사랑이라는 육을 입는 것과 같습니다.

 

신앙의 진리는 신앙의 선, 곧 체어리티로 표현되어야 하는 것이지요.

 

우리가 지식, 이성 같은 이해에 속한 것들로 먼저 거듭나고 있는 이유는 그렇게 해서 먼저 우리의 마음을 준비, 체어리티의 삶을 살고픈 마음이 들게 하기 위해서입니다.

 

거듭남, 심령의 변화, 영혼의 개혁, 참된 회심은 이렇게 일어나는 것입니다.
