15절, 내가 너로 여자와 원수가 되게 하고 네 후손도 여자의 후손과 원수가 되게 하리니 여자의 후손은 네 머리를 상하게 할 것이요 너는 그의 발꿈치를 상하게 할 것이니라 하시고 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; he shall trample upon thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

‘네 후손’(the seed of the serpent)이 모든 부정(不貞, infidelity)을 의미한다는 건, ‘뱀’이 모든 악을 상징한다는 걸로 분명한데요, ‘씨’라는 것이 열매 관련, 또는 출산과 관련된다는 점과, 그리고 여기서 말하는 내용이 교회라는 점을 고려할 때, 이게 바로 부정입니다. 이사야에서는 도착(倒錯)된 상태의 유대교회를 가리켜 ‘행악의 종자’(a seed of evil doers), ‘간음자와 음녀의 자식들’(a seed of adultery), ‘거짓의 후손’(a seed of falsehood)이라 하고 있습니다. That by the “seed of the serpent” is meant all infidelity, is evident from the signification of a “serpent,” as being all evil; “seed” is that which produces and is produced, or that which begets and is begotten; and as the church is here spoken of, this is infidelity. In Isaiah, in reference to the Jewish church in its perverted state, it is called a “seed of evil doers,” a “seed of adultery,” a “seed of falsehood”:

 

슬프다 범죄한 나라요 허물 진 백성이요 행악의 종자요 행위가 부패한 자식이로다 그들이 여호와를 버리며 이스라엘의 거룩하신 이를 만홀히 여겨 멀리하고 물러갔도다 (사1:4) Woe to the sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evil doers, sons that are destroyers; they have forsaken Jehovah, they have provoked the holy one of Israel, they have estranged themselves backward. (Isa. 1:4)

 

3무당의 자식, 간음자와 음녀의 자식들아 너희는 가까이 오라 4너희가 누구를 희롱하느냐 누구를 향하여 입을 크게 벌리며 혀를 내미느냐 너희는 패역의 자식, 거짓의 후손이 아니냐 5너희가 상수리나무 사이, 모든 푸른 나무 아래에서 음욕을 피우며 골짜기 가운데 바위 틈에서 자녀를 도살하는도다 (사57:3-5) Draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer. Are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood? (Isa. 57:3–5)

 

그리고 다시 거기 루시퍼(Lucifer, 계명성, 12절에 나오는)라 하는 ‘뱀’ 또는 ‘용’에 대해 말하면서 And again, speaking of the “serpent” or “dragon,” who is there called Lucifer:

 

19오직 너는 자기 무덤에서 내쫓겼으니 가증한 나뭇가지 같고 칼에 찔려 돌구덩이에 떨어진 주검들에 둘러싸였으니 밟힌 시체와 같도다 20네가 네 땅을 망하게 하였고 네 백성을 죽였으므로 그들과 함께 안장되지 못하나니 악을 행하는 자들의 후손은 영원히 이름이 불려지지 아니하리로다 할지니라 (사14:19-20) Thou art cast out of thy sepulcher like an abominable shoot, because thou hast corrupted thy land, thou hast slain thy people; the seed of evildoers shall not be called to eternity. (Isa. 14:19–20)
