매일예배(6/4, 창4:16, AC.397-398), '에덴 동쪽 놋 땅에 거주하다'

가인이 여호와 앞을 떠나서 에덴 동쪽 놋 땅에 거주하더니 And Cain went out from the faces of Jehovah, and dwelt in the land of Nod, toward the east of Eden. (창4:16)

 

 

397. ‘가인이 여호와 앞을 떠나서’라는 말씀은 신앙이 사랑의 신앙에 속한 선과 분리되었음을 상징합니다. By the words “Cain went out from the faces of Jehovah” is signified that faith was separated from the good of the faith of love;

 

‘놋 땅에 거주하더니’는 진리와 선의 바깥쪽을 상징합니다. “he dwelt in the land of Nod” signifies outside of truth and good;

 

‘에덴 동쪽’은 지적인 마음 근처입니다. 전에 사랑이 다스렸던 곳이지요. “toward the east of Eden” is near the intellectual mind, where love reigned before.

 

 

398. ‘여호와 앞을 떠나는 것’은 사랑의 신앙에 속한 선과 분리되는 것을 상징합니다. 14절 설명(※ n. 387)을 참조하세요. That to “go out from the faces of Jehovah” signifies to be separated from the good of the faith of love may be seen in the explication of verse 14;

 

‘놋 땅에 거주하는 것’은 진리와 선의 바깥쪽을 상징합니다. 이것은 ‘놋’이라는 말의 상징을 보면 분명한데요, 이 ‘놋’은 ‘피하며 유리하는 자’가 되는 것입니다. that to “dwell in the land of Nod” signifies outside of truth and good is evident from the signification of the word “Nod,” which is to be a wanderer and a fugitive;

 

그리고 ‘피하며 유리하는 자’가 된다는 것은 진리와 선을 다 빼앗기는 것입니다. 위에서 보실 수 있습니다. and that to be “a wanderer and a fugitive” is to be deprived of truth and good, may be seen above.

 

‘에덴 동쪽’은 지적인 마음 근처입니다. 전에 사랑이 다스렸던 곳이며, 또 합리적인 마음 근처입니다. 체어리티가 다스렸던 곳이지요. 이러한 사실은 ‘에덴 동쪽’의 상징, 곧, ‘동쪽’은 주님을, ‘에덴’은 사랑을 상징한다는, 지금까지 말씀드린 내용을 보시면 분명합니다. That “toward the east of Eden” signifies near the intellectual mind, where love had previously reigned, and also near the rational mind, where charity had previously reigned, is evident from what has been said of the signification of “the east of Eden,” namely, that “the east” is the Lord, and “Eden” love.

 

의지와 이해력으로 구성되는 마음이, 태고교회 사람들의 경우에는 하나였습니다. With the men of the most ancient church, the mind, consisting of the will and the understanding, was one;

 

의지가 모든 것의 전부였고, 이해력은 의지에 속했기 때문입니다. for the will was the all in all, so that the understanding was of the will.

 

이것은 그들은 의지에 속한 사랑과 이해력에 속한 신앙 간 아무 구분을 두지 않았기 때문이었습니다. 사랑은 모든 것의 전부였고, 신앙은 사랑에 속했기 때문입니다. This was because they made no distinction between love, which is of the will, and faith, which is of the understanding, because love was the all in all, and faith was of love.

 

그러나 ‘가인’이라 하는 사람들의 경우처럼 신앙이 사랑에서 분리된 후, 의지는 더 이상 다스릴 수 없게 되었고, 이런 마음에서는 반대로 의지 대신 이해력이, 혹은 사랑 대신 신앙이 다스렸기 때문에, 그는 ‘에덴 동쪽에 거주하였다’ 하는 것입니다. But after faith was separated from love, as was the case with those who were called “Cain,” no will reigned any longer, and as in that mind the understanding reigned instead of the will, or faith instead of love, it is said that he “dwelt toward the east of Eden”;

 

방금 보았던 것처럼, 신앙을 구별하셨기 때문에, ‘가인에게 표를 주셨기’ 때문에, 인류의 유익을 위해 신앙은 보전될 수 있었습니다. for as was just now observed, faith was distinguished, or “had a mark set upon it,” that it might be preserved for the use of mankind.
