그는 주님으로부터 오는 모든 퍼셉션을 가지고 무엇이 선이고 진리인지에 관한 지식을 습득하는 것은 허락되지만, 반면 자기 자신과 세상으로부터 오는 걸 가지고 그러거나, 사람의 감각과 기억-지식들[sensualia et scientifica]을 가지고 신앙의 미스터리들을 탐구하거나 하면 절대 안 됩니다. 그런 짓들은 그의 천적 본성의 죽음을 야기하기 때문입니다. (16-17절) He is also permitted to acquire a knowledge of what is good and true by means of every perception from the Lord, but he must not do so from himself and the world, nor search into the mysteries of faith by means of the things of sense and of memory-knowledge [sensualia et scientifica]; which would cause the death of his celestial nature (verses 16–17).

※ 천적 인간이 일곱째 날이며, 이날 주님이 안식하십니다. (2-3절)

천적 인간이 일곱째 날이며, 이날 주님이 안식하십니다. (2-3절) The celestial man is the seventh day, on which the Lord rests (verses 2–3).

※ 악한 영들이 떠나버려서 쉬시는 것입니다. 악한 영들은 자기들이 맡았던 사람이 더 이상 가망이 없으면, 즉, 지옥으로 기울어질 가능성이 없으면 포기하고 떠납니다. 사람은 거듭남의 끝에 가서는 의지로도, 즉, 마음으로도 주님을 사랑하게 되기 때문입니다. 이 사람 안에서 그동안 악한 영들을 상대하신 분은 오직 주님이시기 때문에 주님이 쉬시는 것입니다.

※ 죽은 상태(being dead)에서 사람은 그동안 영적(靈的, spiritual) 상태가 되어왔고(has become), 이 상태에서 이번에는 천적(天的, celestial) 상태가 되는데(becomes), 이것이 이제부터 다루는 내용입니다.

 창2:1-17

And there was no man to till the ground. 6안개만 땅에서 올라와 온 지면을 적셨더라 And he made a mist to ascend from the earth, and watered all the faces of the ground. 7여호와 하나님이 땅의 흙으로 사람을 지으시고 생기를 그 코에 불어넣으시니 사람이 생령이 되니라 And Jehovah God formed man, dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of lives, and man became a living soul. 8여호와 하나님이 동방의 에덴에 동산을 창설하시고 그 지으신 사람을 거기 두시니라 And Jehovah God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9여호와 하나님이 그 땅에서 보기에 아름답고 먹기에 좋은 나무가 나게 하시니 동산 가운데에는 생명 나무와 선악을 알게 하는 나무도 있더라 And out of the ground made Jehovah God to grow every tree desirable to behold, and good for food; the tree of lives also, in the midst of the garden; and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 10강이 에덴에서 흘러 나와 동산을 적시고 거기서부터 갈라져 네 근원이 되었으니 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from thence it was parted, and was into four heads. 11첫째의 이름은 비손이라 금이 있는 하윌라 온 땅을 둘렀으며 The name of the first is Pishon; that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12그 땅의 금은 순금이요 그 곳에는 베델리엄과 호마노도 있으며 And the gold of that land is good; there is bdellium and the onyx stone. 13둘째 강의 이름은 기혼이라 구스 온 땅을 둘렀고 And the name of the second river is Gihon; the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Cush. 14셋째 강의 이름은 힛데겔이라 앗수르 동쪽으로 흘렀으며 넷째 강은 유브라데더라 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel; that is it which goeth eastward toward Assyria; and the fourth river is Euphrates. 15여호와 하나님이 그 사람을 이끌어 에덴 동산에 두어 그것을 경작하며 지키게 하시고 And Jehovah God took the man, and put him in the garden of Eden, to till it and take care of it. 16여호와 하나님이 그 사람에게 명하여 이르시되 동산 각종 나무의 열매는 네가 임의로 먹되 And Jehovah God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden eating thou mayest eat. 17선악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매는 먹지 말라 네가 먹는 날에는 반드시 죽으리라 하시니라 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof, dying thou shalt die.

죽은 상태(being dead)에서 사람은 그동안 영적(靈的, spiritual) 상태가 되어왔고(has become), 이 상태에서 이번에는 천적(天的, celestial) 상태가 되는데(becomes), 이것이 이제부터 다루는 내용입니다. (1절) When from being dead a man has become spiritual, then from spiritual he becomes celestial, as is now treated of (verse 1).

※ 영적이다, 천적이다 하는 것은... 먼저, 영적인 것은 주님의 진리, 신앙, 사람의 이해(understanding), 해의 빛과 상응하고, 천적인 것은 주님의 선, 사랑, 사람의 의지(will), 해의 열과 상응합니다. 영적인 것은 천적인 것을 담기 위한 그릇입니다. 즉, 진리는 선을 담기 위한 그릇이며, 신앙은 사랑을 담기 위한, 사람의 이해는 의지를 담기 위한, 그리고 해의 빛은 열을 담기 위한 그릇입니다. 선과 분리된 진리, 사랑과 분리된 신앙, 의지와 분리된 이해, 열과 분리된 빛은 생명이 없습니다. 이들 각각이 하나로 융합되면 천국이지만, 서로 분리되면 지옥입니다.

※ 그런 이유로, 주님은 저에게 이 장 끝에서 어떻게 사람이 죽은 자들 가운데서 다시 일어나 영원한 삶으로 들어가는지를 알리게 하셨습니다.

그런 이유로, 주님은 저에게 이 장 끝에서 어떻게 사람이 죽은 자들 가운데서 다시 일어나 영원한 삶으로 들어가는지를 알리게 하셨습니다. At the end of this chapter, accordingly, I am allowed to tell how man is raised from the dead and enters into the life of eternity.

그런데 이런 내용들이 말씀 본문 가운데 들어가게 되면, 여기저기 흩어지고, 그래서 연결이 잘 안 될 것이기 때문에, 주님은 주님의 자비(the Lord’s Divine mercy)로 제가 어떤 순서에 따라 이 창세기 각 장 앞뒤로 붙여나가게 하셨습니다. 지금 이 소개글은 예외로 하고 말입니다. But as these matters would be scattered and disconnected if inserted among those contained in the text of the Word, it is permitted, of the Lord’s Divine mercy, to append them in some order, at the beginning and end of each chapter; besides those which are introduced incidentally.

※ 하나에서 열까지 스베덴보리는 철저히 오직 주님의 말씀으로만 하고 있습니다. 천사들처럼 말이지요.

※ 먼저 접하실 내용은, 사람이 몸 안에 살다가 죽어 사후 영계에서 눈을 뜰 때 무슨 일이 일어나는지, 영원한 삶으로 어떻게 들어가는지 하는 내용입니다.

지난 수년간 제가 듣고 본 바를 이제는 밝혀도 좋다는 허락이 있어 이렇게 시작하게 되었는데요, 먼저 접하실 내용은, 사람이 몸 안에 살다가 죽어 사후 영계에서 눈을 뜰 때 무슨 일이 일어나는지, 영원한 삶으로 어떻게 들어가는지 하는 내용입니다. 저로 하여금 사람들은 사후에도 살아 있다는 걸 확실히 알게 하시려고 그들 생전에 저와 알고 지냈던 많은 사람들과 그곳에서 친구처럼 대화하고 지낼 수 있게 해 주셨습니다. 그리고 이것이 그저 하루나 한 주 정도가 아니라 무려 여러 달, 심지어 일 년 정도씩, 그들과 이 세상에서처럼 그렇게 말하고 함께 어울리게 해 주셨습니다. 그들은 자기들이 분명히 죽었는데도 여전히 세상 살 때 모습으로 살아 있다는 사실에 정말 무척 놀랐습니다. 그리고 다른 정말 많은 사람들도 그렇다는 사실에도 말이지요. 사람은 사후 그들이 내세에 들기 전 거의 하루도 무슨 단절되는 게 없습니다. 죽음은 삶의 연속입니다. As it is permitted me to disclose what for several years I have heard and seen, it shall here be told, first, how the case is with man when he is being resuscitated; or how he enters from the life of the body into the life of eternity. In order that I might know that men live after death, it has been given me to speak and be in company with many who were known to me during their life in the body; and this not merely for a day or a week, but for months, and almost a year, speaking and associating with them just as in this world. They wondered exceedingly that while they lived in the body they were, and that very many others are, in such incredulity as to believe that they will not live after death; when in fact scarcely a day intervenes after the death of the body before they are in the other life; for death is a continuation of life.

※ 주님은 사람을 창조하실 때, 사람이 몸 안에 사는 동안에도 영들과, 그리고 천사들과 대화할 수 있게 창조하셨습니다.

주님은 사람을 창조하실 때, 사람이 몸 안에 사는 동안에도 영들과, 그리고 천사들과 대화할 수 있게 창조하셨습니다. 실제로 태고 때에는 그랬는데요, 영이 몸을 옷처럼 입고 있는 동안에도 그는 그들과 함께 하는 것이기 때문입니다. 그러나 시간이 흐르면서 사람들이 육체의 일, 세상 일들에는 자신들을 깊이 잠기게 하는 대신 그밖의 것들(aught)에 대해서는 전혀 무관심하는 바람에 그만 이 길, 곧 영들 및 천사들과 대화할 수 있는 길이 닫혔습니다. 하지만 사람이 자기가 잠겼던 이 육체의 일들에서 물러나기만 하면, 바로 그 길은 다시 열립니다. 그는 다시 영들 가운데 있게 되며, 그들과 일상을 함께할 수 있게 됩니다. Man was so created by the Lord as to be able while living in the body to speak with spirits and angels, as in fact was done in the most ancient times; for, being a spirit clothed with a body, he is one with them. But because in process of time men so immersed themselves in corporeal and worldly things as to care almost nothing for aught besides, the way was closed. Yet as soon as the corporeal things recede in which man is immersed, the way is again opened, and he is among spirits, and in a common life with them.

※ 해의 열과 빛처럼 주님으로부터 나와 온 피조세계를 영원히 비추는 인플럭스(influx, 入流)라는 게 있습니다. 모든 피조물은 이 인플럭스로 주님과 연결되어 존재, 존속할 수 있는데, 사람도 주님을 향하면 그 내면이 열려 이 인플럭스를 받아들이게 되지만, 주님을 등지면 내면이 닫혀 이 인플럭스로부터 차단이 되기 때문입니다.

※ 저는 잘 알고 있습니다. 많은 사람들이 말하기를, 사람은 그가 살아 있어 몸 안에 있는 동안은 영들 및 천사들과 절대 대화할 수 없다고, 그 모든 게 다 환상이며, 제가 사람들의 관심을 끌려고 그러는 거라고, 또 다른 사람들은 또 다른 반대들을 할 거라는 걸 말이지요.

저는 잘 알고 있습니다. 많은 사람들이 말하기를, 사람은 그가 살아 있어 몸 안에 있는 동안은 영들 및 천사들과 절대 대화할 수 없다고, 그 모든 게 다 환상이며, 제가 사람들의 관심을 끌려고 그러는 거라고, 또 다른 사람들은 또 다른 반대들을 할 거라는 걸 말이지요. I am well aware that many will say that no one can possibly speak with spirits and angels so long as he lives in the body; and many will say that it is all fancy, others that I relate such things in order to gain credence, and others will make other objections.

※ 이는 2024년 현재도 사실입니다. 5년 전, 처음 스베덴보리의 책, ‘천국과 지옥’(김은경 역)에 나오는, 천국에 대한 너무도 놀라운 사실들을 접하고는 기쁜 나머지 다른 사람들도 다 저와 같은 줄 알고 순진하게 나눴다가... 아이고, 그 후 사람들이 저를 이상하게 생각하며 은근히 피하는 등, 저는 어려움을 겪어야 했지요.

※ 현 기독교인들은 사람의 내면(內面), 속(internal), 내적(內的), 영적(靈的, spiritual)인 것에 대하여는 거의 아는 게 없습니다. 그들은 신앙의 모든 것을 외면(外面) 혹은 겉(external), 외적(外的), 육적(肉的, corporeal)인 것과 연관지어야만 이해가 가능한, 본인들은 좀 언짢겠지만... 대부분 아주 철저히 육적이며, 감각적이기 때문입니다. 여기에는 많이 배우신 분들도, 못 배우신 분들도 거의 예외가 없습니다. 가령, 복(福, blessing)도 재물과 명예, 건강과 형통의 형태로 나타나야 이해하며, 기도도 합심기도, 통성기도, 철야기도, 금식기도 및 치유기도 등 뭔가 인간의 노력과 정성이 충분히 곁들여져야 응답이 되는 줄 아는, 그리고 구원을 무슨 천국 가는 표 얻는 걸로 이해하는, 네, 그런 식이지요... 주님 말씀하신, ‘하나님의 나라는 너희 안에 있느니라’(눅17:21)라는 말씀의 속뜻을 전혀 이해할 수가 없는, 매우 안타까운 상황 가운데 있습니다...

하지만 저는 이런 걸로 단념하지 않습니다. 제가 그동안, 그리고 지금도 직접 보고(have seen), 듣고(have heard), 감각으로 느끼고 있기(have felt) 때문입니다. But by all this I am not deterred, for I have seen, I have heard, I have felt.

※ 영이 육(肉)이라는 옷을 입고 있는 상태를 육체, 영적인 옷을 입고 있는 상태를 영체라 합니다. 사람의 오감(五感, 시각, 청각, 후각, 미각, 촉각)은 원래 영에 속한 것이며, 아주 예리하고 강력합니다만 사람이 육체로 있을 때는 육체의 연약함에 억눌려 아주 제한적으로만 기능합니다. 그러나 사람이 육을 벗고 영이 되면, 즉, 영체로 있게 되면, 그때는 본래대로 제 기능을 하게 되어 아주 예리하고 강력하게 작동합니다. 스베덴보리가 영계 체험을 할 때, 보고, 듣고, 느낀 것들은 바로 이 상태에서 한 것입니다.

주님의 신적 자비(the Lord’s Divine mercy)로, 말씀의 속뜻(the internal meaning of the Word) 아는 것이 그동안 제게 허락되었습니다. 말씀의 속뜻에는 가장 깊은 아르카나(arcana, 秘義)가 들어 있는데, 이는 지금까지 그 어느 누구도 알 수 없었던 내용입니다. 그것은 사후세계인 저세상 삶에 대한 내용이기 때문인데요, (말씀의 속뜻 거의 대부분이 저세상 삶에 관한 것이고, 설명이며, 포함된 내용들이기 때문입니다.) 저는 지난 수년간 듣고 본 것을 이제는 드러내어도 좋다는 허락을 주님으로부터 받았습니다. 그 내용은 그 기간 제가 영들, 그리고 천사들을 만나 마치 친구처럼 대화하면서 듣고 본 것들입니다. As of the Lord’s Divine mercy it has been given me to know the internal meaning of the Word, in which are contained deepest arcana that have not before come to anyone’s knowledge, nor can come unless the nature of the other life is known (for very many things of the Word’s internal sense have regard to, describe, and involve those of that life), I am permitted to disclose what I have heard and seen during some years in which it has been granted me to be in the company of spirits and angels.
