16절, 또 여자에게 이르시되 내가 네게 임신하는 고통을 크게 더하리니 네가 수고하고 자식을 낳을 것이며 너는 남편을 원하고 남편은 너를 다스릴 것이니라 하시고 And unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth sons, and thine obedience shall be to thy man [vir], and he shall rule over thee.

모든 법과 수칙(守則, precept)은 천적, 영적인 것에서 나오는데요, 이는 그것이 참된 출발점이기 때문이지요. 그래서 다음과 같은 사실, 곧 이 결혼의 법칙 또한 그러한데요, 이는 아내, 그러니까 남편처럼 이성을 따라 행하는 대신 자기가 원하는 걸 행하는 아내, 이때 이 원하는 건 아내 자신의 오운(own)에 속한 건데, 그런 아내는 반드시 남편의 신중함을 따라야 한다는 것입니다. As every law and precept comes forth from what is celestial and spiritual, as from its true beginning, it follows that this law of marriage does so, which requires that the wife, who acts from desire, which is of what is her own, rather than from reason, like the man, should be subject to his prudence.
