7절, 여호와 하나님이 땅의 흙으로 사람을 지으시고 생기를 그 코에 불어넣으시니 사람이 생령이 되니라 And Jehovah God formed man, dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of lives, and man became a living soul.

여기서는 겉 사람의 생명(The life of the external man)을 다루고 있는데요, 앞 두 구절에서는 그의 신앙, 즉 이해의 생명을, 본 절에서는 그의 사랑, 즉 의지의 생명을 다루고 있습니다. 지금까지 겉 사람은 속 사람에게 복종하려고도, 섬기려고도 하지 않았고, 그 결과 계속해서 둘 사이엔 전투, 싸움이 있었으며, 그래서 겉 사람은 아직 ‘사람’(man)이 아니었습니다만, 그러나 지금은 다릅니다. 지금은 천적 상태가 되면서, 겉 사람은 속 사람에게 복종하기 시작하고, 섬기기 시작하는데요, 그래서 이제는 ‘사람’이 되어가는 중입니다. 신앙의 생명과 사랑의 생명으로 빚어져 가고 있으면서 말입니다. 이때 그를 준비시키는 것은 신앙의 생명이지만, 그를 정말 ‘사람’이 되게 하는 것은 사랑의 생명입니다. The life of the external man is here treated of—the life of his faith or understanding in the two former verses, and the life of his love or will in this verse. Hitherto the external man has been unwilling to yield to and serve the internal, being engaged in a continual combat with him, and therefore the external man was not then “man.” Now, however, being made celestial, the external man begins to obey and serve the internal, and it also becomes “man,” being so rendered by the life of faith and the life of love. The life of faith prepares him, but it is the life of love which causes him to be “man.”
