7절, 여호와 하나님이 땅의 흙으로 사람을 지으시고 생기를 그 코에 불어넣으시니 사람이 생령이 되니라 And Jehovah God formed man, dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of lives, and man became a living soul.

‘여호와 하나님이 그 코에 불어 넣으시니’(Jehovah God breathed into his nostrils), 이 표현의 경우는 이렇습니다. 고대(ancient times)에는, 그리고 말씀에서는 ‘코’(nostrils, 콧구멍) 하면 그 향기의 결과, 뭔가 정말 좋은 걸로 이해했는데요, 이게 바로 퍼셉션(perception)입니다. 이런 이유로, 여호와에 대한, 다음과 같은 반복적 표현, 곧 ‘여호와 앞에 향기로운 냄새’(he smelled an odor of rest)라는 표현을 번제물들 및 여호와와 그의 나라를 표상하는 것들 가운데서 반복하는 것입니다. As to its being said that “Jehovah God breathed into his nostrils,” the case is this: In ancient times, and in the Word, by “nostrils” was understood whatever was grateful in consequence of its odor, which signifies perception. On this account it is repeatedly written of Jehovah, that he “smelled an odor of rest” from the burnt offerings, and from those things which represented him and his kingdom;

그 숫양 전부를 제단 위에 불사르라 이는 여호와께 드리는 번제요 이는 향기로운 냄새니 여호와께 드리는 화제니라 (출29:18)

 

너는 그것을 그들의 손에서 가져다가 제단 위에서 번제물을 더하여 불사르라 이는 여호와 앞에 향기로운 냄새니 곧 여호와께 드리는 화제니라 (출29:25)

 

한 어린 양은 저녁 때에 드리되 아침에 한 것처럼 소제와 전제를 그것과 함께 드려 향기로운 냄새가 되게 하여 여호와께 화제로 삼을지니 (출29:41)

 

등입니다.

 

그리고 사랑과 신앙에 관련된 것들이야말로 여호와께서 가장 기뻐하시는 것들이기 때문에 ‘여호와 하나님이 생기를 그 코에 불어 넣으시니’(he breathed through his nostrils the breath of lives) 하시는 것이며, 이런 이유로, 여호와, 곧 주님의 기름 부으신 자(the anointed of Jehovah, that is, of the Lord)를 가리켜 ‘콧김’(the breath of the nostrils)이라고 한 것입니다. and as the things relating to love and faith are most grateful to him, it is said that “he breathed through his nostrils the breath of lives.” Hence the anointed of Jehovah, that is, of the Lord, is called the “breath of the nostrils” (Lam. 4:20).

 

우리의 콧김 곧 여호와께서 기름 부으신 자가 그들의 함정에 빠졌음이여 우리가 그를 가리키며 전에 이르기를 우리가 그의 그늘 아래에서 이방인들 중에 살겠다 하던 자로다 (애4:20)

 

그리고 요한복음에 기록된 대로, 주님 친히 ‘그들을 향하사 숨을 내쉬며’(breathing on his disciples)라는 표현을 통해 같은 걸 상징하셨습니다. And the Lord himself signified the same by “breathing on his disciples,” as written in John:

 

이 말씀을 하시고 그들을 향하사 숨을 내쉬며 이르시되 성령을 받으라 (요20:22) He breathed on them and said, Receive ye the Holy Spirit. (John 20:22)
