이것은 많은 체험을 통해 내게 입증되었다. 그 중 몇 가지를 말하겠다. 천국의 모든 천사들은 결코 신성을 사람 형상(a human form) 외의 다른 존재로 지각하지 않는다. 놀라운 것은, 가장 높은 천국의 천사들은 다른 식으로는 신성을 생각할 수도 없다. 그들이 이렇게 생각해야만 되는 것은, 그들에게 흘러드는 신성 자체에 기인하고, 또 그들의 생각이 천국의 형태를 따라 확장되기 때문이기도 하다. 천사의 생각은 천국 안에 뻗어나가며, 천사는 생각의 확장 정도에 따라 지성과 지혜를 갖는다. 그 결과 천국의 모든 사람은 주님을 확실히 알고 있다. 주님께만 신적 인성이 있기 때문이다. 이것은 단지 천사들에게 들었을 뿐만이 아니라, 내가 천국의 내적 영향권(the inner sphere of heaven) 안에 들어갈 때 직접 지각할 수 있었던 사실이다. That this is true has been proved to me by much experience, about which something shall now be said. No angel in the heavens ever perceives the Divine as being in any other than a human form; and what is remarkable, those in the higher heavens are unable to think of the Divine in any other way. The necessity of thinking in this way comes from the Divine itself that flows in, and also from the form of heaven in harmony with which their thoughts spread forth. For every thought of an angel spreads forth into heaven; and the angels have intelligence and wisdom in the measure of that extension. It is in consequence of this that all in heaven acknowledge the Lord, because only in him does the Divine human exist. Not only have I been told all this by angels, but when elevated into the inner sphere of heaven I have been able to perceive it.

이로써 천사가 지혜로울수록 이 사실을 더 명백히 지각한다는 것을 분명히 알 수 있다. 주님께서 그들에게 나타나시는 것도 이 사실에 기인한다. 주님은 보이는 신성(a visible Divine being)을 시인하고, 믿는 이들에게 사람 형상인 신적 천사의 모습(a Divine angelic form, which is the human form)으로 나타나시기 때문이다. 그러나 보이지 않는 신성을 믿는 이들에게는 나타나시지 않는다. 전자는 신성을 볼 능력이 있고, 후자는 없기 때문이다. From this it is evident that the wiser the angels are the more clearly they perceive this truth; and it is from this that the Lord is seen by them; for the Lord is seen in a Divine angelic form, which is the human form, by those who acknowledge and believe in a visible Divine being, but not by those who believe in an invisible Divine. For the former can see their Divine being, but the latter cannot.

천국이 전체와 부분에 있어 사람의 모습인 것이 주님의 신적 인성(the Lord’s Divine human)에 기인한다는 것은 지금까지의 내용에 따르는 결론이다. 지금까지의 내용을 요약하면, 다음과 같다. (1) 주님이 천국의 하나님이시다. (2) 주님의 신성이 천국을 이룬다. (3) 천국은 무수한 사회 공동체로 구성되고, 각 공동체는 작은 형태의 천국이며, 각 천사는 가장 작은 형태의 천국이다. (4) 천국 전체는 모두 합쳐 한 사람 모습이다. (5) 천국의 각 공동체도 한 사람 모습으로 되어 있다. (6) 따라서 각 천사도 완전한 사람의 모습이다. 이 모든 내용의 귀결로, 천국을 이루는 신성이 사람 모습이라는 결론이 성립된다. 이 신성이 주님의 신적 인성이라는 것은 ‘천국의 비밀’(Arcana Coelestia)에서 발췌한 관련 구절들인 이 장의 부록을 보면 더 확실히 알 수 있을 것이다. 그것을 보면, 주님의 인성이 신성이며, 교회에서 주님의 인성은 신성이 아니라고 믿는 것은 잘못된 것임을 알 수 있을 것이다. 또 ‘새 예루살렘과 그 천적 교리’(the New Jerusalem and Its Heavenly Doctrine)의 끝부분, 주님에 관한 장에도 같은 내용이 있다. That it is from the Lord’s Divine human that heaven as a whole and in part reflects man, follows as a conclusion from all that has been stated and shown in the preceding chapters, namely: (1) That the God of heaven is the Lord. (2) It is the Divine of the Lord that makes heaven. (3) Heaven consists of innumerable societies; and each society is a heaven in a smaller form, and each angel in the smallest form. (4) All heaven in the aggregate reflects a single man. (5) Each society in the heavens reflects a single man. (6) Therefore every angel is in a complete human form. All this leads to the conclusion that as it is the Divine that makes heaven, heaven must be human in form. That this Divine is the Lord’s Divine human can be seen still more clearly, because in a compendium, in what has been collected, brought together and collated from Arcana Coelestia and placed as a supplement at the end of this chapter. That the Lord’s human is Divine, and that it is not true that his human is not Divine, as those within the church believe, may also be seen in the same extracts, also in the chapter on the Lord, in the New Jerusalem and Its Heavenly Doctrine, at the end.

이 문제로 나와 대화한 선한 영들은 교회 안에 천국과 천사와 영에 대한 무지가 팽배한 것을 진심으로 애석해했다. 그리고 마음이 상해 나에게 자기들은 형체 없는 혼이 아니고, 연기 같은 기체도 아니며, 사람과 똑같은 모습이고, 이 세상에 있을 때와 다름없이 보고 듣고 느낀다는 것을 꼭 밝혀달라고 부탁했다.주71 Good spirits, with whom I have spoken about this matter, have been deeply grieved at such ignorance in the church about the condition of heaven and of spirits and angels; and in their displeasure they charged me to declare positively that they are not formless minds nor ethereal breaths, but are men in very form, and see, hear, and feel equally with those who are in this world.71

주71. 모든 개개의 천사는 주님으로 말미암는 신적 질서의 그릇인 만큼 사람 형태이고, 그의 받아들이는 만큼 완전하고 아름답다. Inasmuch as each angel is a recipient of Divine order from the Lord, he is in a human form, perfect and beautiful in the measure of his reception (n. 322, 1880, 1881, 3633, 3804, 4622, 4735, 4797, 4985, 5199, 5530, 6054, 9879, 10177, 10594). 질서가 존재하는 건 신적 진리에 의해서이며, 신적 선은 질서의 에센셜이다. It is by means of Divine truth that order exists; and Divine good is the essential of order (n. 2451, 3166, 4390, 4409, 5232, 7256, 10122, 10555).
