창2:1-17
1천지와 만물이 다 이루어지니라 And the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the army of them. 2하나님이 그가 하시던 일을 일곱째 날에 마치시니 그가 하시던 모든 일을 그치고 일곱째 날에 안식하시니라 And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3하나님이 그 일곱째 날을 복되게 하사 거룩하게 하셨으니 이는 하나님이 그 창조하시며 만드시던 모든 일을 마치시고 그 날에 안식하셨음이니라 And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it, because that in it he rested from all his work which God in making created. 4이것이 천지가 창조될 때에 하늘과 땅의 내력이니 여호와 하나님이 땅과 하늘을 만드시던 날에 These are the nativities of the heavens and of the earth when he created them, in the day in which Jehovah God made the earth and the heavens. 5여호와 하나님이 땅에 비를 내리지 아니하셨고 땅을 갈 사람도 없었으므로 들에는 초목이 아직 없었고 밭에는 채소가 나지 아니하였으며 And there was no shrub of the field as yet in the earth, and there was no herb of the field as yet growing, because Jehovah God had not caused it to rain upon the earth. And there was no man to till the ground. 6안개만 땅에서 올라와 온 지면을 적셨더라 And he made a mist to ascend from the earth, and watered all the faces of the ground. 7여호와 하나님이 땅의 흙으로 사람을 지으시고 생기를 그 코에 불어넣으시니 사람이 생령이 되니라 And Jehovah God formed man, dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of lives, and man became a living soul. 8여호와 하나님이 동방의 에덴에 동산을 창설하시고 그 지으신 사람을 거기 두시니라 And Jehovah God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9여호와 하나님이 그 땅에서 보기에 아름답고 먹기에 좋은 나무가 나게 하시니 동산 가운데에는 생명 나무와 선악을 알게 하는 나무도 있더라 And out of the ground made Jehovah God to grow every tree desirable to behold, and good for food; the tree of lives also, in the midst of the garden; and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. 10강이 에덴에서 흘러 나와 동산을 적시고 거기서부터 갈라져 네 근원이 되었으니 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from thence it was parted, and was into four heads. 11첫째의 이름은 비손이라 금이 있는 하윌라 온 땅을 둘렀으며 The name of the first is Pishon; that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12그 땅의 금은 순금이요 그 곳에는 베델리엄과 호마노도 있으며 And the gold of that land is good; there is bdellium and the onyx stone. 13둘째 강의 이름은 기혼이라 구스 온 땅을 둘렀고 And the name of the second river is Gihon; the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Cush. 14셋째 강의 이름은 힛데겔이라 앗수르 동쪽으로 흘렀으며 넷째 강은 유브라데더라 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel; that is it which goeth eastward toward Assyria; and the fourth river is Euphrates. 15여호와 하나님이 그 사람을 이끌어 에덴 동산에 두어 그것을 경작하며 지키게 하시고 And Jehovah God took the man, and put him in the garden of Eden, to till it and take care of it. 16여호와 하나님이 그 사람에게 명하여 이르시되 동산 각종 나무의 열매는 네가 임의로 먹되 And Jehovah God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden eating thou mayest eat. 17선악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매는 먹지 말라 네가 먹는 날에는 반드시 죽으리라 하시니라 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof, dying thou shalt die.

죽은 상태(being dead)에서 사람은 그동안 영적(靈的, spiritual) 상태가 되어왔고(has become), 이 상태에서 이번에는 천적(天的, celestial) 상태가 되는데(becomes), 이것이 이제부터 다루는 내용입니다. (1절) When from being dead a man has become spiritual, then from spiritual he becomes celestial, as is now treated of (verse 1).
※ 영적이다, 천적이다 하는 것은... 먼저, 영적인 것은 주님의 진리, 신앙, 사람의 이해(understanding), 해의 빛과 상응하고, 천적인 것은 주님의 선, 사랑, 사람의 의지(will), 해의 열과 상응합니다. 영적인 것은 천적인 것을 담기 위한 그릇입니다. 즉, 진리는 선을 담기 위한 그릇이며, 신앙은 사랑을 담기 위한, 사람의 이해는 의지를 담기 위한, 그리고 해의 빛은 열을 담기 위한 그릇입니다. 선과 분리된 진리, 사랑과 분리된 신앙, 의지와 분리된 이해, 열과 분리된 빛은 생명이 없습니다. 이들 각각이 하나로 융합되면 천국이지만, 서로 분리되면 지옥입니다.
