13-14절, 13마할랄렐을 낳은 후 팔백사십 년을 지내며 자녀들을 낳았으며 And Kenan lived after he begat Mahalalel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters. 14그는 구백십 세를 살고 죽었더라 And all the days of Kenan were nine hundred and ten years; and he died.

여기 ‘날’과 ‘해’의 수들(The days and numbers of years)은 앞서와(AC.482, 487, 488) 같은 의미입니다. 여기 ‘자녀’ 또한 진리와 선을 의미합니다(AC.55:2, 486, 489–491). 이 교회 멤버들에게도 역시 퍼셉션이 있었습니다. 비록 더 일반적인 방식으로만 지각했지만 말입니다. 그가 ‘죽었다’라는 것은 이런 퍼셉션의 상태가 멈추는, 중단되는 것과 같은 걸 말합니다. The “days” and numbers of “years” have the same signification here as before. “Sons and daughters” here also signify truths and goods, whereof the members of the church had a perception, but in a more general manner. That he “died” signifies in like manner the cessation of such a state of perception.

※ 퍼셉션이란, 개략적으로는 주님의 신성을 호흡할 수 있는, 즉 주님의 선과 진리를 직관적으로 알 수 있는, 주님으로 말미암아 타고나는 역량으로, 이것이 있어야 교회든 개인이든 주님과 연결되며, 주님과 연결되어 있어야 ‘살아있는’ 것입니다. 만일 어느 개인이나 교회가 더 이상 이 퍼셉션이 작동하지 않는다면 그는 ‘살았으나 사실은 죽은’ 상태입니다. 지금 이 창세기 본문에서 ‘몇 세를 살고 죽었다’라는 건 그 교회가 주님의 퍼셉션으로 지상에 머물렀던 상태와 그 변화를 말하는 것인데, 퍼셉션의 유무로 어느 교회의 삶을 말하는 건 이 태고교회에만 해당합니다. 노아의 홍수 이후 세대는 퍼셉션이 아닌 양심이라는 새로운 방식으로 주님과 연결되기 때문이며, 이 퍼셉션의 고갈로 태고교회는 노아의 홍수라는 종말을 맞게 된 것입니다.

‘게난’이라 하는 교회는 퍼셉션에 있어 보다 더 완전한 교회인 위 세 교회 중 하나로 여겨질 정도는 아닙니다. 이들 세 교회는 퍼셉션에 있어 전에는 뚜렷했지만 지금은 평범해지기 시작했지요. 비유하자면, 마치 열매나 씨의 핵에 비해 상대적으로 부드러운 첫 번째 막과도 같이 말이지요. 이런 상태는 사실 어떻게 설명할 수는 없는데, 하지만 이어지는 후속 교회들, 예를 들면, ‘에녹’, ‘노아’라 하는 교회들의 상태를 보면 분명히 다릅니다. The church called “Kenan” is not to be so much reckoned among those three more perfect ones, inasmuch as perception, which in the former churches had been distinct, began now to become general, comparatively as are the first and softer membranes relatively to the kernel of fruits or seeds; which state is not indeed described, but still is apparent from what follows, as from the description of the churches called “Enoch” and “Noah.”

‘게난’은 네 번째 교회, ‘마할랄렐’은 다섯 번째 교회입니다. By “Kenan” is signified a fourth church, and by “Mahalalel” a fifth.

※ 태고교회는 그 후속 교회들에 비해 상대적으로 열매나 씨의 핵에 해당하는 반면, 이어지는 후속 교회들은 상대적으로 그 열매나 씨의 막에 해당합니다.

‘에노스’는 앞서 본 대로 세 번째 교회이지만 여전히 태고교회의 일원입니다. 그러나 ‘셋’보다 덜 천적이며, 그래서 퍼셉션에 있어서도 덜한 교회입니다. ‘셋’ 역시 그 부모 교회인 ‘아담’(man) 교회보다 덜 천적이며, 퍼셉션에 있어 덜한 교회입니다. 이들 세 교회를 일컬어 함께 태고교회라고 합니다. 태고교회는 그 후속 교회들에 비해 상대적으로 열매나 씨의 핵에 해당하는 반면, 이어지는 후속 교회들은 상대적으로 그 열매나 씨의 막에 해당하겠습니다. “Enosh,” as before observed, is a third church, yet one of the most ancient churches, but less celestial, and consequently less perceptive, than the church “Seth”; and this latter was not so celestial and perceptive as the parent church, called “man.” These three are what constitute the most ancient church, which, relatively to the succeeding ones, was as the kernel of fruits, or seeds, whereas the succeeding churches are relatively as the membranaceous parts of these.

앞서(AC.496) 말씀드린 대로, ‘에노스’라는 교회는 세 번째 교회로서, ‘셋’이라는 교회보다 덜 천적이었지만, 그래도 여전히 태고교회의 일원이었던 교회를 말합니다. ‘게난’은 네 번째 교회로서, 그 전 교회들을 계승한 교회입니다. By “Enosh,” as before said, is signified a third church, still less celestial than the church “Seth,” yet one of the most ancient churches; by “Kenan” is signified a fourth church, which succeeded the former ones.
