※ ‘라멕’의 속뜻, 황폐함(vastation)

23절, 라멕이 아내들에게 이르되 아다와 씰라여 내 목소리를 들으라 라멕의 아내들이여 내 말을 들으라 나의 상처로 말미암아 내가 사람을 죽였고 나의 상함으로 말미암아 소년을 죽였도다 And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice, ye wives of Lamech, and with your ears perceive my speech, for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a little one to my hurt.

이 본문도 그렇고, 다음 절도 그렇고... 아주 분명한 사실은 ‘라멕’이 황폐함을 의미한다는 것입니다. 그가 말하길, ‘내가 사람을 죽였다’, ‘내가 소년을 죽였다’ 하고 있고, 또 가인의 경우는 그 벌이 일곱 배이지만, 라멕의 경우는 ‘일흔일곱 배’라고 하고 있기 때문입니다. From the contents of this and the following verse, it is very evident that by “Lamech” is signified vastation; for he says that he had “slain a man,” and a “little child,” and that Cain should be avenged sevenfold, and Lamech “seventy and sevenfold.”

※ ‘라멕’의 속뜻, 황폐함(vastation), 즉 어떤 신앙도 남아 있지 않음

19절, 라멕이 두 아내를 맞이하였으니 하나의 이름은 아다요 하나의 이름은 씰라였더라 And Lamech took unto him two wives; the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.

‘라멕’의 의미가 황폐함, 즉 어떤 신앙도 남아 있지 않음이라는 것이 분명한 것은 이어지는 23, 24절을 보면 알 수 있는데요, 거기 보면, ‘나의 상처로 말미암아 내가 사람을 죽였고 나의 상함으로 말미암아 소년을 죽였도다’ 하고 있기 때문입니다. 거기 ‘사람’은 신앙, ‘어린아이’ 혹은 ‘소년’은 체어리티(charity, 이웃 사랑)이기 때문입니다. That by “Lamech” is signified vastation, or that there was no faith, is evident from the following verses (23–24), in which it is said that he “slew a man to his wounding, and a little one to his hurt”; for there, by a “man” is meant faith, and by a “little one” or “little child,” .
