1장

천국의 하나님은 주님이십니다 The God of Heaven Is the Lord

 

 

2. 제일 먼저 알아야 하는 것은 천국의 하나님이 누구신가 하는 것입니다. 왜냐하면, 나머지 모든 것이 바로 여기에 달렸기 때문입니다. First of all it must be known who the God of heaven is, since upon that all the other things depend.

 

천국 전체 어디를 가나 오직 홀로 주님 한 분만 천국의 하나님으로 인정되십니다. Throughout all heaven no other than the Lord alone is acknowledged as the God of heaven.

 

주께서 친히 가르치실 때, 거기서 말씀하신 것입니다. There it is said, as he himself taught,

 

30나와 아버지는 하나이니라 하신대 38내가 행하거든 나를 믿지 아니할지라도 그 일은 믿으라 그러면 너희가 아버지께서 내 안에 계시고 내가 아버지 안에 있음을 깨달아 알리라 하시니 That he is one with the Father; that the Father is in him, and he in the Father; (요10:30, 38)

 

9예수께서 이르시되 빌립아 내가 이렇게 오래 너희와 함께 있으되 네가 나를 알지 못하느냐 나를 본 자는 아버지를 보았거늘 어찌하여 아버지를 보이라 하느냐 10내가 아버지 안에 거하고 아버지는 내 안에 계신 것을 네가 믿지 아니하느냐 내가 너희에게 이르는 말은 스스로 하는 것이 아니라 아버지께서 내 안에 계셔서 그의 일을 하시는 것이라 11내가 아버지 안에 거하고 아버지께서 내 안에 계심을 믿으라 그렇지 못하겠거든 행하는 그 일로 말미암아 나를 믿으라 that he who sees him sees the Father; (요14:9-11)

 

13그러나 진리의 성령이 오시면 그가 너희를 모든 진리 가운데로 인도하시리니 그가 스스로 말하지 않고 오직 들은 것을 말하며 장래 일을 너희에게 알리시리라 14그가 내 영광을 나타내리니 내 것을 가지고 너희에게 알리시겠음이라 15무릇 아버지께 있는 것은 다 내 것이라 그러므로 내가 말하기를 그가 내 것을 가지고 너희에게 알리시리라 하였노라 and that everything that is holy goes forth from him. (요16:13-15)

 

저는 자주 이 문제로 천사들과 대화를 나눴는데, 그들은 언제나 단언하기를, 천국에서는 신을 셋으로 나누는 게 불가능하다고 했습니다. 신은 한 분이시며, 이 한 분이 주님 안에 계심을 자기들은 알고, 지각하기 때문이라고 했습니다. I have often talked with angels on this subject, and they have invariably declared that in heaven they are unable to divide the Divine into three, because they know and perceive that the Divine is One and this One is in the Lord.

 

천사들은 또 말하기를, 세상에서 교회를 다니다 온 사람들도 신이 셋이라는 생각을 갖고 있으면 천국에 올 수 없다고 했습니다. 왜냐하면, 그런 사람들의 생각은 한 신에서 다른 신으로 이리저리 헤매기 때문인데, 천국에서는 셋을 생각하면서 하나(주13)라고 말하는 것이 허용되지 않기 때문이라 했습니다. 천국에서는 사람들이 생각으로 말을 하는데, 천국의 언어는 생각이 그대로 전달되는 것, 곧 소리 나는 생각입니다. They also said that those of the church who come from this world having an idea of three Divine beings cannot be admitted into heaven, since their thought wanders from one Divine being to another; and it is not allowable there to think three and say one,13 because in heaven everyone speaks from his thought, since speech there is the immediate product of the thought, or the thought speaking.

13. 그리스도인들은 저 세상에서 유일신 사상에 대한 조사를 받게 되는데, 일단 그들을 조사해 보면, 그들은 삼신 사상을 갖고 있음이 드러납니다. Christians were examined in the other life in regard to their idea of the one God and it was found that they held the idea of three Gods (n. 2329, 5256, 10736, 10738, 10821). 주님의 신적 삼위일체가 천국에는 인정되고 있습니다. A Divine trinity in the Lord is acknowledged in heaven (n. 14, 15, 1729, 2005, 5256, 9303).

 

그래서 세상에서 신을 셋으로 나눈 사람들, 그 결과 그 각각을 별개로 인정한 사람들, 그래서 신관(神觀)을 한 분 주님으로 모으지 못한 사람들은 천국에 수용되지 못합니다. 천국은 모든 생각을 공유하는 곳이기 때문인데요, 만일 누가 셋을 생각하면서 하나를 말하면, 그는 즉시 드러나고 거부됩니다. Consequently, those in this world who have divided the Divine into three, and have adopted a different idea of each, and have not made that idea one and centered it in the Lord, cannot be received into heaven, because in heaven there is a sharing of all thoughts, and therefore if anyone came thinking three and saying one, he would be at once found out and rejected.

 

그러나 여기서 한 가지 중요한 사실은, 진리 따로 선 따로, 혹은 신앙 따로 사랑 따로의 삶을 살지 않은 사람들은 모두 저 세상에서 주님에 관한 천국의 가르침, 곧 주님이 온 우주, 이 모든 피조세계의 하나님이시라는 사실을 받아들인다는 사실입니다. But let it be known that all those who have not separated what is true from what is good, or faith from love, accept in the other life, when they have been taught, the heavenly idea of the Lord, that he is the God of the universe.

 

반면, 신앙 따로 생활 따로의 삶을 산 사람들, 곧 참 신앙의 교훈대로 살지 않은 사람들은 주님에 관한 이 천국의 가르침을 받아들이지 못합니다. It is otherwise with those who have separated faith from life, that is, who have not lived according to the precepts of true faith.

 

 

3. 교회를 다니면서도 주님은 부인하고 대신 성부 하나님만 인정하여 그게 신념화된 사람들은 천국에 있을 수 없습니다. 이런 사람들은 천국으로부터 오는 어떠한 인플럭스(influx, 入流)도 못 받아들이기 때문인데요, 천국은 오직 주님 한 분만 예배하는 곳이기 때문입니다. 그 결과, 이런 사람들은 점점 어떤 주제든지 그 주제가 참인지 여부를 판단하는 능력을 잃어가다가 결국 벙어리처럼 되거나 어리석게 말하고, 두 팔을 축 늘어뜨린 채 마치 나사가 풀린 듯 흐느적거리며 돌아다닙니다. Those within the church who have denied the Lord and have acknowledged the Father only, and have confirmed themselves in that belief, are not in heaven; and as they are unable to receive any influx from heaven, where the Lord alone is worshiped, they gradually lose the ability to think what is true about any subject whatever; and finally they become as if dumb, or they talk stupidly, and ramble about with their arms dangling and swinging as if weak in the joints.

 

마찬가지로 소시니안 사람들처럼 주님의 신성(神性, the Divinity)은 부인하고, 단지 인성(人性, humanity)만을 인정하는 사람들 역시 천국의 바깥쪽 같은 데에 있습니다. 그들은 오른쪽으로 조금 옮겨져 깊은 곳으로 보내지는데, 그리스도교 국가에서 온 나머지 사람들로부터 철저히 격리됩니다. Again, those who, like the Socinians, have denied the Divinity of the Lord and have acknowledged his humanity only, are likewise outside of heaven; they are brought forward a little toward the right and are let down into the deep, and are thus wholly separated from the rest that come from the Christian world.

 

끝으로, 자기는 보이지 않는 신성을 믿는다 고백하는 사람들, 이들은 그걸 우주의 영혼이라 부르며, 모든 것이 거기에서 기원한다 하는 사람들이 있습니다. 이들은 주님 신앙을 전부 거부하는 사람들인데, 나중에 보면 이들은 결국 어떤 하나님도 믿지 않는 사람들임이 드러납니다. 이들이 말하는 보이지 않는 신성이라는 것은 이들에게는 일종의 무슨 자연의 근본원리 같은 것으로, 그런 건 어떻게 신앙할 수도, 사랑할 수도 없기 때문입니다. 생각14의 대상이 될 수가 없기 때문이지요. Finally, those who profess to believe in an invisible Divine, which they call the soul of the universe [ens universi], from which all things originated, and who reject all belief in the Lord, find out that they believe in no God; since this invisible Divine is to them a property of nature in her first principles, which cannot be an object of faith and love, because it is not an object of thought.(주14)

이런 사람들의 운명은 자연숭배자들의 운명과 같게 됩니다. Such have their lot among those called nature worshipers.

 

교회 밖에서 태어난 사람들, 종교를 갖고 있지 않거나 이교도들의 경우는 또 다른데요, 나중에 따로 다루겠습니다. It is otherwise with those born outside the church, who are called the heathen; these will be treated of hereafter.

 

 

4. 유아, 어린아이들은 천국의 삼 분의 일을 이루는데, 모두 주님이 자기들의 아버지이심을 아는 데서 출발, 나중에는 주님이 만유의 주이시며, 하늘과 땅의 하나님이심을 알고 믿는 데까지 이르게 됩니다. Infants, who form a third part of heaven, are all initiated into the acknowledgment and belief that the Lord is their Father, and afterwards that he is the Lord of all, thus the God of heaven and earth.

 

아이들이 천국에서 성장하는 것, 그리고 학습과 배움을 통해 완전하여져서 나중에는 천사의 지성과 지혜에까지 이르게 되는 내용들은 뒤에 나오는 37장, ‘천국의 어린이들’이라는 장에서 다루겠습니다. That children grow up in heaven and are perfected by means of knowledges, even to angelic intelligence and wisdom, will be seen in the following pages.

 

 

5. 교회에 속한 사람들은 주님이 천국의 하나님이심을 절대로 의심할 수가 없습니다. 그 이유는 주께서 친히 다음과 같이 가르치셨기 때문인데요, Those who are of the church cannot doubt that the Lord is the God of heaven, for he himself taught,

 

내 아버지께서 모든 것을 내게 주셨으니 아버지 외에는 아들을 아는 자가 없고 아들과 또 아들의 소원대로 계시를 받는 자 외에는 아버지를 아는 자가 없느니라 All things are delivered up to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; neither knows anyone the Father, except the Son, and he to whomever the Son intends to reveal Him. (마11:27)

 

무릇 아버지께 있는 것은 다 내 것이라 그러므로 내가 말하기를 그가 내 것을 가지고 너희에게 알리시리라 하였노라 All things whatever the Father has, are Mine; on this account I said that it shall receive of Mine, and shall announce it to you. (요16:15)

 

아버지께서 아들에게 주신 모든 사람에게 영생을 주게 하시려고 만민을 다스리는 권세를 아들에게 주셨음이로소이다 as Thou hast given Him authority over all flesh, that as to every thing which Thou hast given Him, He might give to them eternal life. (요17:2)

 

예수께서 나아와 말씀하여 이르시되 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 내게 주셨으니 And Jesus coming spoke to them, saying, All authority is given to Me in heaven and on earth. (마28:18)

 

말씀하시길, ‘하늘과 땅’이라 하신 것은, 하늘, 곧 천국을 다스리시는 분이 또한 땅, 곧 지상도 다스리시기 때문이며, 그것은 둘은 서로 의존관계에 있기 때문입니다.(주15) He says “in heaven and on earth,” because he that rules heaven rules the earth also, for the one depends upon the other.(주15)

15. 천국 전체가 주님의 것입니다. The entire heaven is the Lord’s (n. 2751, 7086). 주님은 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 갖고 계십니다. He has all power in the heavens and on the earths (n. 1607, 10089, 10827). 주께서 천국을 다스리시기 때문에 주님은 또한 천국과 연결되어 있는 모든 것, 곧 온 세상 또한 다스리십니다. As the Lord rules heaven He rules also all things that depend thereon, thus all things in the world (n. 2026, 2027, 4523, 4524). 주님 홀로 지옥을 제거하시고, 악으로부터 숨기시며, 선을 붙드시고, 구원하시는 권세가 있으십니다. The Lord alone has power to remove the hells, to withhold from evil and hold in good, and thus to save (n. 10019).

 

이 ‘하늘과 땅을 다스리심’이란, 사랑과 관련되는 모든 선과 신앙에 관련되는 모든 진리, 곧 모든 지성과 지혜, 그 결과 모든 행복, 한 마디로 영생을 주님으로부터 받게 됨을 의미하는 것입니다. “Ruling heaven and earth” means to receive from the Lord every good pertaining to love and every truth pertaining to faith, thus all intelligence and wisdom, and in consequence all happiness, in a word, eternal life.

 

이 또한 주님이 다음과 같이 말씀하셨을 때, 가르치신 것입니다. This also the Lord taught when he said:

 

아들을 믿는 자에게는 영생이 있고 아들에게 순종하지 아니하는 자는 영생을 보지 못하고 도리어 하나님의 진노가 그 위에 머물러 있느니라 He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that believeth not the Son shall not see life. (요3:36)

 

예수께서 이르시되 나는 부활이요 생명이니 나를 믿는 자는 죽어도 살겠고 무릇 살아서 나를 믿는 자는 영원히 죽지 아니하리니 이것을 네가 믿느냐 I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth on Me, though he die yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth on Me shall never die. (요11:25, 26)

 

예수께서 이르시되 내가 곧 길이요 진리요 생명이니 나로 말미암지 않고는 아버지께로 올 자가 없느니라 I am the way, the truth, and the life. (요14:6)

 

 

6. 어떤 영들이 있었는데요, 그들은 말하기를, 자기들은 전에 세상 살 동안은 성부 하나님을 믿었었다고... There were certain spirits who while living in the world had professed to believe in the Father;

 

하지만, 주님에 관해서는, 주님은 그저 다른 일반인들과 별반 다르지 않으신 분으로 알았다고, 그래서 자기들은 주님을 천국의 하나님으로 믿지 않는다고 하는 사람들이었습니다. but of the Lord they had the same idea as of any other man, and therefore did not believe him to be the God of heaven.

 

그래서 그들에게 한 가지 허락이 내려졌는데요, 천국 어디든 돌아다니며, 혹시 주님의 천국 아닌 무슨 다른 천국이 있는지를 알아보라고, 찾아보라고 하는 허락이었습니다. For this reason they were permitted to wander about and inquire wherever they wished whether there were any other heaven than the heaven of the Lord.

 

그래서 그들은 여러 날 찾아다녔습니다. 그러나 그런 천국은 천국 그 어디에도 없었습니다. They searched for several days, but nowhere found any.

 

그들이 찾는 천국은 천국의 행복이라는 게 영광과 권력에 있는 그런 천국이었는데요, These were such as place the happiness of heaven in glory and dominion;

 

그들은 자기들이 원하는 그런 천국을 얻을 수 없다는 것과, 천국은 그런 걸로 이루어진 데가 아니라는 말을 듣고는 분개했습니다. 그들은 남을 지배할 수 있는 천국, 세상 살 때처럼 큰 영광을 누릴 수 있는 그런 천국을 원했기 때문입니다. and as they were unable to get what they desired, and were told that heaven does not consist in such things, they became indignant, and wished for a heaven where they could lord it over others and be eminent in glory like that in the world.
