천국과 지상의 모든 것 간에 어떤 상응이 존재한다 There Is a Correspondence of Heaven with All Things of the Earth

주76. 이 세상과 그 가운데 세 종류의 계, 즉 동, 식물 및 광물계에 속한 모든 것은 천국에 있는 모든 천적인 것들과 상응한다. 즉 자연계에 있는 것들은 영계에 있는 것들과 상응한다 (AC.1632, 1881, 2758, 2760–2763, 2987–3003, 3213–3227, 3483, 3624–3649, 4044, 4053, 4116, 4366, 4939, 5116, 5377, 5428, 5477, 9280). All things that are in the world and its three kingdoms correspond to the heavenly things that are in heaven, that is, the things in the natural world correspond to the things in the spiritual world (n. 1632, 1881, 2758, 2760–2763, 2987–3003, 3213–3227, 3483, 3624–3649, 4044, 4053, 4116, 4366, 4939, 5116, 5377, 5428, 5477, 9280). 상응에 의해 자연계와 영계는 서로 결합한다 (AC.8615). By correspondences the natural world is conjoined to the spiritual world (n. 8615). 이런 연유로, 모든 자연은 주님의 나라를 표상하는 하나의 극장이다 (AC.2758, 2999, 3000, 3483, 4938, 4939, 8848, 9280). For this reason all nature is a theater representative of the Lord’s kingdom (n. 2758, 2999, 3000, 3483, 4938, 4939, 8848, 9280).

주77. 천국과 이 세상 등 질서 가운데 있는 피조세계 모든 만물은 선과 진리와 관련이 있으며 (AC.2451, 3166, 4390, 4409, 5232, 7256, 10122), Everything in the universe, both in heaven and in the world, that is in accordance with order, has reference to good and truth (n. 2451, 3166, 4390, 4409, 5232, 7256, 10122); 그리고 무언가로 존재하기 위해 이 둘의 결합하고도 관련이 있다 (AC.10555). and to the conjunction of these, in order to be anything (n. 10555).

주79. 상응으로부터 정원과 낙원은 지성과 지혜를 의미한다 (AC.100, 108). From correspondence a garden and a paradise signify intelligence and wisdom (n. 100, 108); 경험으로부터 (AC.3220). from experience (n. 3220). 상응 가운데 있는 모든 것은 말씀에서 그와 동일한 상징을 가진다 (AC.2896, 2987, 2989–2991, 3002, 3225). All things that have a correspondence have in the Word the same significance (n. 2896, 2987, 2989–2991, 3002, 3225).

주80. 나무는 퍼셉션과 지식을 의미한다 (AC.103, 2163, 2682, 2722, 2972, 7692). Trees signify perceptions and knowledges (n. 103, 2163, 2682, 2722, 2972, 7692). 이런 이유로 고대인들은 숲속 나무 아래에서 그들의 상응에 따라 거룩한 예배(Divine worship)를 드렸다 (AC.2722, 4552). For this reason the ancient people held Divine worship in groves under trees according to their correspondence (n. 2722, 4552). 나무, 식물 같은 식물계에 관한 것들 안으로 천국에서 흘러들어오는 입류 (AC.3648). Influx of heaven into subjects of the vegetable kingdom, as into trees and plants (n. 3648).

주81. 먹을 것(foods)은 상응에 의하면 영적 생명에 영양을 주는 것들을 의미한다 (AC.3114, 4459, 4792, 4976, 5147, 5293, 5340, 5342, 5410, 5426, 5576, 5582, 5588, 5655, 5915, 6277, 8562, 9003). From correspondence foods signify such things as nourish the spiritual life (n. 3114, 4459, 4792, 4976, 5147, 5293, 5340, 5342, 5410, 5426, 5576, 5582, 5588, 5655, 5915, 6277, 8562, 9003).

주82. 빵은 사람의 영적 생명에 영양을 주는 모든 선을 의미한다 (AC.2165, 2177, 3478, 3735, 3813, 4211, 4217, 4735, 4976, 9323, 9545, 10686). Bread signifies every good that nourishes the spiritual life of man (n. 2165, 2177, 3478, 3735, 3813, 4211, 4217, 4735, 4976, 9323, 9545, 10686). 그것이 성막 상 위에 놓였던 진설병(the loaves)이 상징하는 것이다 (AC.3478, 9545). Such was the signification of the loaves that were on the table in the tabernacle (n. 3478, 9545). 희생제물을 일반적으로 빵이라고 했다 (AC.2165). Sacrifices in general were called bread (n. 2165). 빵은 모든 먹을 것을 포함한다 (AC.2165). Bread includes all food (n. 2165). 그래서 빵은 모든 천적, 영적인 먹을 것을 의미한다 (AC.276, 680, 2165, 2177, 3478, 6118, 8410). Thus it signifies all heavenly and spiritual food (n. 276, 680, 2165, 2177, 3478, 6118, 8410).

주83. 모든 선은 쓰임새로부터, 그리고 쓰임새를 따라 그 즐거움(delight)뿐 아니라 퀄러티도 가진다. 쓰임새라는 게 이런 것이고, 이런 게 선이다 (AC.3049, 4984, 7038). Every good has its delight as well as its quality from use and in accordance with use; therefore such as the use is, such is the good (n. 3049, 4984, 7038). 천사들의 생명은 사랑과 체어리티의 선, 즉 쓰임새를 수행함으로 구성된다 (AC.454). Angelic life consists in the goods of love and charity, that is, in performing uses (n. 454). 주님이, 그리고 결과적으로 천사들이 사람에 관해 보는 것은 오직 그 목적, 곧 쓰임새다 (AC.1317, 1645, 5854). Serving the Lord is performing uses (n. 7038). 사람에게 있어 크고 작은 모든 일은 쓰임새를 위해 행해져 온 일이다 (AC.3626, 4104, 5189, 9297). Each thing and all things in man have been formed for use (n. 3626, 4104, 5189, 9297); 또한 쓰임새로부터, 즉 쓰임새는 쓰임새가 수행되는 사람 안 장기(臟器)들의 형태보다 우선한다. 쓰임새란 천국을 통한 주님의 흘러들어오심으로 말미암기 때문이다 (AC.4223, 4926). also from use, that is, the use is prior to the organic forms in man through which the use is performed, because use is from the inflowing of the Lord through heaven (n. 4223, 4926). 더욱이 사람의 내면(interiors)은, 이는 그의 마음(mind)을 구성하는데, 그가 성숙해지면서 쓰임새로 말미암아, 그리고 쓰임새를 위해 형성된다 (AC.1964, 6815, 9297). Moreover man’s interiors, which constitute his mind, when he grows to maturity are formed from use and for use (n. 1964, 6815, 9297). 결론적으로, 사람은 쓰임새와 같이 가는 그런 존재이다 (AC.1568, 3570, 4054, 6571, 6935, 6938, 10284). Consequently man is such as are the uses with him (n. 1568, 3570, 4054, 6571, 6935, 6938, 10284). 쓰임새란 쓰임새라는 걸 위한 목적이다 (AC.3565, 4054, 4104, 6815). Uses are the ends for the sake of which (n. 3565, 4054, 4104, 6815). 쓰임새는 처음이자 나중, 곧 사람의 모든 것이다 (AC.1964). Use is the first and the last, thus the all of man (n. 1964).

주84. 말씀은 순전히 상응으로만 기록되었다 (AC.8615). The Word was written wholly by correspondences (n. 8615). 말씀으로 사람은 천국과 결합한다 (AC.2899, 6943, 9396, 9400, 9401, 10375, 10452). By means of the Word man has conjunction with heaven (n. 2899, 6943, 9396, 9400, 9401, 10375, 10452).

주86. 금은 상응으로 천적 선을 의미한다 (AC.113, 1551, 1552, 5658, 6914, 6917, 9510, 9874, 9881). Copper signifies natural good (n. 425, 1551). 철은 순서상 가장 바깥쪽 진리를 의미한다 (AC.425, 426). Iron signifies truth in the outmost of order (n. 425, 426).

천국에 있는 해

The Sun in Heaven

주87. 주님은 천국에서 해로 보이시며, 천국의 해이시다 (AC.1053, 3636, 3643, 4060). The Lord is seen in heaven as a sun, and is the sun of heaven (n. 1053, 3636, 3643, 4060). 주님은 그분의 천적 나라 사람들한테는 해로 보이시는데, 거기는 그분을 향한 사랑이 다스리는 나라다. 그리고 그분의 영적 나라 사람들한테는 달로 보이시는데, 거기는 이웃을 향한 체어리티와 신앙이 다스리는 나라다 (AC.1521, 1529–1531, 1837, 4696). The Lord is seen as a sun by those who are in His celestial kingdom, where love to Him reigns, and as a moon by those who are in His spiritual kingdom, where charity to the neighbor and faith reign (n. 1521, 1529–1531, 1837, 4696). 주님은 오른눈 앞 중간 높이쯤 해로 보이시고, 왼눈 앞에서는 달로 보이신다 (AC.1053, 1521, 1529–1531, 3636, 3643, 4321, 5097, 7078, 7083, 7173, 7270, 8812, 10809). The Lord is seen as a sun at a middle height before the right eye, and as a moon before the left eye (n. 1053, 1521, 1529–1531, 3636, 3643, 4321, 5097, 7078, 7083, 7173, 7270, 8812, 10809). 주님은 해와 달로 보이신다 (AC.1531, 7173). The Lord is seen as a sun and as a moon (n. 1531, 7173). 주님의 신성 그 자체는 천국에 있는 그분의 신성보다 아득히 높으시다 (AC.7270, 8760). The Lord’s Divine itself is far above His Divine in heaven (n. 7270, 8760).

주88. 말씀에서 ‘불’은 좋은 의미로든 나쁜 의미로든 사랑을 의미한다 (AC.934, 4906, 5215). “Fire” in the Word signifies love, both in a good sense and in a bad sense (n. 934, 4906, 5215). 거룩한 하늘의 불은 신적 사랑(the Divine Love)을 의미한다 (AC.934, 6314, 6832). Holy or heavenly fire signifies the Divine Love (n. 934, 6314, 6832). 지옥 불(Infernal fire)은 자아 사랑과 세상 사랑, 그리고 그 사랑들에 속한 모든 정욕(lust)을 의미한다 (AC.1861, 5071, 6314, 6832, 7575, 10747). Infernal fire signifies love of self and of the world and every lust of those loves (n. 1861, 5071, 6314, 6832, 7575, 10747). 사랑은 생명의 불이며, 생명 그 자체는 실제로 사랑에서 나온다 (AC.4906, 5071, 6032, 6314). Love is the fire of life and life itself is really from it (n. 4906, 5071, 6032, 6314). ‘빛’은 신앙의 진리를 의미한다 (AC.3195, 3485, 3636, 3643, 3993, 4302, 4413, 4415, 9548, 9684). “Light” signifies the truth of faith (n. 3195, 3485, 3636, 3643, 3993, 4302, 4413, 4415, 9548, 9684).

주89. 왼눈이 보는 것은 신앙의 진리에 상응하고, 오른눈이 보는 것은 그것들의 선에 상응한다 (AC.4410, 6923). The sight of the left eye corresponds to truths of faith, and the sight of the right eye to their goods (n. 4410, 6923).

주92. 주님의 신적 사랑(the Lord’s Divine love)이 어떤 건지, 그리고 얼마나 그레이트한지는 이 세상 해의 불과 비교해 보면 알 수 있다 (AC.6834, 6849, 8644). What the Lord’s Divine love is, and how great it is, is illustrated by comparison with the fire of this world’s sun (n. 6834, 6849, 8644). 주님의 신적 사랑은 인류 전체를 구원하고자 하시는 그들을 향하신 사랑이다 (AC.1820, 1865, 2253, 6872). The Lord’s Divine love is love toward the whole human race to save it (n. 1820, 1865, 2253, 6872). 먼저 주님의 사랑의 불에서 나오는 사랑은 천국으로 들어가는 대신 해 주위 광채(radiant belts)처럼 보인다 (AC.7270). The love that first goes forth from the fire of the Lord’s love does not enter heaven, but is seen as radiant belts about the sun (n. 7270). 천사들은 불타는 사랑의 입류(the inflow of burning love)로 상하지 않도록 그에 상응하는 엷은 구름 같은 베일로 보호된다 (AC.6849). The angels are veiled with a corresponding thin cloud, to prevent their being harmed by the inflow of burning love (n. 6849).

주93. 천사들과 함께하시는 주님의 임재(The Lord’s presence)는 그분의 사랑과 신앙의 선에 대한 그들의 수용 정도에 비례한다 (AC.904, 4198, 4320, 6280, 6832, 7042, 8819, 9680, 9682, 9683, 10106, 10811). The Lord’s presence with the angels is in proportion to their reception of good of love and faith from Him (n. 904, 4198, 4320, 6280, 6832, 7042, 8819, 9680, 9682, 9683, 10106, 10811). 주님은 각 사람에게 맞춰 나타나신다. 즉 각자의 역량만큼만 보이신다 (AC.1861, 3235, 4198, 4206). The Lord appears to each one in accordance with what he is (n. 1861, 3235, 4198, 4206). 지옥들은 천국들과 상당히 멀리 떨어져 있는데, 그들은 주님의 신적 사랑의 임재를 견딜 수 없기 때문이다 (AC.4299, 7519, 7738, 7989, 8137, 8265, 9327). The hells are at a distance from the heavens because they cannot bear the presence of Divine love from the Lord (n. 4299, 7519, 7738, 7989, 8137, 8265, 9327). 이런 이유로, 지옥들은 천국들과 굉장히 멀며, 이것이 곧 ‘큰 구렁텅이’(the great gulf, 눅16:26)라 하는 것이다 (AC.9346, 10187). For this reason the hells are very far away from the heavens, and this is the “great gulf” (n. 9346, 10187).

그뿐 아니라 너희와 우리 사이에 큰 구렁텅이가 놓여 있어 여기서 너희에게 건너가고자 하되 갈 수 없고 거기서 우리에게 건너올 수도 없게 하였느니라 (눅16:26)

주94. 이 세상 해는 천사들한테는 보이지 않으며, 그 자리에 뭔가 그 뒤에 어두운, 그러니까 천국의 해, 즉 주님과 반대되는 것으로 보인다 (AC.7078, 9755). The sun of the world is not seen by the angels, but in its place something dark behind, opposite to the sun of heaven or the Lord (n. 7078, 9755). ‘해’는 그 반대의 의미로는 자기 사랑을 뜻한다 (AC.2441). In the opposite sense the “sun” signifies the love of self (n. 2441); 그리고 이런 의미에서 ‘해를 예배한다는 것’은 천국의 사랑, 즉 주님 사랑에 반대되는 걸 예배한다는 뜻이다 (AC.2441, 10584). and in this sense “to worship the sun” signifies to worship what is contrary to heavenly love or to the Lord (n. 2441, 10584). 지옥에 있는 사람들한테는 천국의 해는 짙은 어둠이다 (AC.2441). To those in the hells the sun of heaven is thick darkness (n. 2441).

주95. 주님은 천국의 모든 것이 몸을 돌려 바라보는 공통 중심(the common center)이시다 (AC.3633, 3641). The Lord is the common center to which all things of heaven turn (n. 3633, 3641).

천국 전체는 한 사람 모습이다 All Heaven in the Aggregate Reflects a Single Man

주60. 천국 전체는 한 사람 모양이며, 그래서 천국을 ‘가장 큰 사람’(the Greatest Man)이라고 한다 (AC.2996, 2998, 3624–3649, 3741–3745, 4625). Heaven in the whole complex appears in form like a man, and for this reason heaven is called the Greatest Man (n. 2996, 2998, 3624–3649, 3741–3745, 4625).

주61. 사람의 의지는 그의 생명 자체(the very being, esse)이며, 그의 이해(understanding)는 거기서 나오는 그의 생명의 외양(the outgo, existere)이다 (AC.3619, 5002, 9282). The will of man is the very being [esse] of his life, and his understanding is the outgo [existere] of his life therefrom (n. 3619, 5002, 9282). 사람의 주된 생명(chief life)은 그의 의지의 생명(the life of his will)이며, 거기서 이해의 생명(the life of the understanding)이 나온다 (AC.585, 590, 3619, 7342, 8885, 9282, 10076, 10109, 10110). The chief life of man is the life of his will, and from that the life of the understanding proceeds (n. 585, 590, 3619, 7342, 8885, 9282, 10076, 10109, 10110). 사람은 그의 의지와 그로 인한 이해로 사람이다 (AC.8911, 9069, 9071, 10076, 10109, 10110). Man is man by virtue of his will and his understanding therefrom (n. 8911, 9069, 9071, 10076, 10109, 10110).

주62. 말씀에서 ‘의’(義, righteousness)는 선으로, ‘공도’(公道, judgment)는 진리로 서술된다. 그러므로 ‘의와 공도를 행하는 것’(to do righteousness and judgment, 창18:19)은 선하고 참된 것을 행하는 것이다 (AC.2235, 9857). In the Word “righteousness” is predicated of good, and “judgment” of truth; therefore “to do righteousness and judgment” is to do what is good and true (n. 2235, 9857).

내가 그로 그 자식과 권속에게 명하여 여호와의 도를 지켜 의와 공도를 행하게 하려고 그를 택하였나니 이는 나 여호와가 아브라함에게 대하여 말한 일을 이루려 함이니라 (창18:19)

주63. 가장 높은 뜻으로 주님은 이웃이시며, 그래서 그 결과 주님을 사랑하는 것은 주님으로 말미암은 것을 사랑하는 것, 즉 선과 진리를 사랑하는 것이다. 주님은 주님으로 말미암은 모든 것 가운데 계시기 때문이다 (AC.2425, 3419, 6706, 6711, 6819, 6823, 8123). In the highest sense the Lord is the neighbor; consequently to love the Lord is to love that which is from Him, that is to love good and truth because the Lord is in everything that is from Him (n. 2425, 3419, 6706, 6711, 6819, 6823, 8123). 그런 까닭에, 주님으로 말미암은 모든 선이 이웃이며, 그 선을 의도하고 행하는 것이 이웃을 사랑하는 것이다 (AC.5028, 10336). Therefore all good that is from the Lord is the neighbor, and to will and do that good is to love the neighbor (n. 5028, 10336).

그래서 모든 천사는 온전한 사람 모습이다 Therefore Every Angel Is in a Complete Human Form

주64. ‘예루살렘’(Jerusalem)은 교회를 의미한다 (AC.402, 3654, 9166). “Jerusalem” means the church (n. 402, 3654, 9166).

주65. ‘성곽’(The wall)은 거짓과 악의 폭력(assault)에 대항, 그것을 막아서는 진리를 의미한다 (AC.6419). The “wall” means truth defending against the assault of falsities and evils (n. 6419).

주66. ‘열둘, 십이’(12, Twelve)는 콤플렉스 내 모든 진리와 선을 의미한다 (AC.577, 2089, 2129, 2130, 3272, 3858, 3913). “Twelve” means all truths and goods in the complex (n. 577, 2089, 2129, 2130, 3272, 3858, 3913). 마찬가지로 ‘칠십이’(72)도, ‘백사십사’(144)도 그렇다. 이 숫자들은 12의 배수들이기 때문이다 (AC.7973). Likewise “seventy-two,” and “a hundred and forty-four,” since this comes from twelve multiplied into itself (n. 7973). 말씀에 나오는 모든 숫자는 뭔가를 의미한다 (AC.482, 487, 647, 648, 755, 813, 1963, 1988, 2075, 2252, 3252, 4264, 4495, 5265). All numbers in the Word signify things (n. 482, 487, 647, 648, 755, 813, 1963, 1988, 2075, 2252, 3252, 4264, 4495, 5265). 배수들은 같은 걸 상징하는데, 이때의 상징은 단순, 기본 숫자에 곱셈을 통해 나오는 그런 상징이다 (AC.5291, 5335, 5708, 7973). Multiplied numbers have a like signification as the simple numbers from which they arise by multiplication (n. 5291, 5335, 5708, 7973).

주67. 말씀에 나오는 ‘측량, 측정’(Measure)은 진리와 선에 관한 어떤 것의 퀄러티를 의미한다 (AC.3104, 9603). “Measure” in the Word signifies the quality of a thing in respect to truth and good (n. 3104, 9603).

How far the knowledge of correspondences excels other knowledges (n. 4280). 상응 지식은 태고인의 지식 중 첫째였다. 그러나 지금은 완전히 잊혔다 (AC.3021, 3419, 4280, 4749, 4844, 4964, 4966, 6004, 7729, 10252). 천국들은 셀 수 없이 많은 공동체들로 구성되어 있다 The Heavens Are Made Up of Countless Communities

주44. 무한한 다양성이 존재하며, 그 어떤 것도 결코 다른 것과 똑같지 않다 (AC.7236, 9002). There is infinite variety, and never anything the same with any other (n. 7236, 9002). 천국에는 그래서 무한한 다양성이 존재한다 (AC.684, 690, 3744, 5598, 7236). A whole angelic society is called an angel, and Michael and Raphael are angelic societies, so called from their functions (n. 8192). 천국과 천사들의 사회는 무슨 이름이 없고, 다만 그들 선의 퀄러티와 그에 대한 걸로(by the idea of it) 구별된다 (AC.1705, 1754). The societies of heaven and the angels have no names, but are distinguished by the quality of their good, and by the idea of it (n. 1705, 1754).

주51. 천국은 어떤 정해진 절차, 규정과 상관없이 오직 자비만으로(from mercy apart from means) 들어갈 수 있는 데가 아니다. 오히려 그 반대, 곧 삶이, 생활이 받쳐줘야 한다. 주님으로 말미암아 사람이 천국까지 인도함을 받는 일생의 모든 것이 자비이다. 자비, 곧 은혜란 바로 이런 것을 말한다 (AC.5057, 10659). Heaven is not granted from mercy apart from means, but in accordance with the life; yet everything of the life by which man is led to heaven by the Lord belongs to mercy; this is what is meant by mercy (n. 5057, 10659). 만일 천국이 정해진 절차, 규정과 상관없이 그저 은혜로만 들어갈 수 있는 데라면, 천국은 모든 사람이 다 들어갈 수 있는 데가 된다 (AC.2401). If heaven were granted from mercy apart from means it would be granted to all (n. 2401). 천국을 정해진 절차, 규정과 상관없이 단순히 은혜로 들어가는 곳이라고 믿었지만, 사후 내던져짐을 당한 어느 악한 영들에 관하여 (AC.4226). About some evil spirits cast down from heaven who believed that heaven was granted to everyone from mercy apart from means (n. 4226).

주52. 천국은 사람 안에 있다 (AC.3884). Heaven is in man (n. 3884).

From good all churches make one church before the Lord (n. 7396, 9276).

주55. 교회는 사람 안에 있지 사람 밖에 있는 게 아니다. 교회는 자기 안에 교회가 있는 사람들로 구성된다 (AC.3884, [6637]). The church is in man, and not outside of him, and the church in general is made up of men that have the church in them (n. 3884, [6637]).

주56. 자기가 하나의 교회인 사람은 가장 큰 천국 모습을 닮은 가장 작은 형태의 천국이다. 그의 마음에 속한 그의 내면이 천국 형태를 따라 정돈되어 있기 때문이며, 그 결과, 천국의 모든 걸 수용할 수 있기 때문이다 (AC.911, 1900, 1928, 3624–3631, 3634, 3884, 4041, 4279, 4523, 4524, 4625, 6013, 6057, 9279, 9632). A man who is a church is a heaven in the smallest form after the image of the greatest, because his interiors, which belong to his mind, are arranged after the form of heaven, and consequently for reception of all things of heaven (n. 911, 1900, 1928, 3624–3631, 3634, 3884, 4041, 4279, 4523, 4524, 4625, 6013, 6057, 9279, 9632).

So far as a man lives according to order, that is, so far as he lives in good in accordance with Divine truths, he is a man, and the church and heaven are in him (n. 4839, 6605, 8513, [8547]).

When love and faith rule they are in all the particulars of man’s life, although he does not know it (n. 8854, 8864, 8865).

주28. 천국은 전체적으로 두 나라, 곧 천적 나라와 영적 나라로 나누어진다 (AC.3887, 4138). Heaven as a whole is divided into two kingdoms, a celestial kingdom and a spiritual kingdom (n. 3887, 4138). 천적 나라 천사들은 주님의 신성을 마음으로 원하는 파트(voluntary part), 곧 의지(will) 안으로 받는다. 그래서 영적 천사들, 곧 주님의 신성을 지적 파트(intellectual part), 그러니까 이해(understanding) 안으로 받는 천사들보다 훨씬 더 내적이다 (AC.5113, 6367, 8521, 9936, 9995, 10124). The angels of the celestial kingdom receive the Divine of the Lord in their voluntary part, thus more interiorly than the spiritual angels, who receive it in their intellectual part (n. 5113, 6367, 8521, 9936, 9995, 10124).

주29. 천적 나라를 형성하는 천국들은 더 높다 하고, 영적 나라를 형성하는 천국들은 더 낮다 한다 (AC.10068). The heavens that constitute the celestial kingdom are called higher while those that constitute the spiritual kingdom are called lower (n. 10068).

주30. 내적인 것들은 더 높은 것들에 담기며, 더 높은 것들은 내적인 것들을 상징한다 (AC.2148, 3084, 4599, 5146, 8325). Interior things are portrayed by higher things, and higher things signify interior things (n. 2148, 3084, 4599, 5146, 8325).

주31. 천적 나라의 선은 주님을 향한(to) 사랑의 선이고, 영적 나라의 선은 이웃을 향한(toward) 체어리티의 선이다 (AC.3691, 6435, 9468, 9680, 9683, 9780). The good of the celestial kingdom is good of love to the Lord, and the good of the spiritual kingdom is good of charity toward the neighbor (n. 3691, 6435, 9468, 9680, 9683, 9780).

주32. 천적 천사들은 지혜에 있어 영적 천사들을 측량할 수 없을 정도로 초월한다 (AC.2718, 9995). The celestial angels immeasurably surpass in wisdom the spiritual angels (n. 2718, 9995). 천적 천사들과 영적 천사들 간 구분, 구별의 본질 (AC.2088, 2669, 2708, 2715, 3235, 3240, 4788, 7068, 8521, 9277, 10295). 주34. 주님의 인플럭스(The Lord’s influx)는 선 안으로, 그리고 선을 거쳐 진리 안으로 들어오며, 그 역(逆, the reverse)은 없다. 그런 식으로, 의지 안으로, 그리고 의지를 거쳐 이해 안으로 들어오며, 역시 그 역은 없다 (AC.5482, 5649, 6027, 8685, 8701, 10153). The Lord’s influx is into good and through good into truth, and not the reverse; thus into the will and through that into the understanding, and not the reverse (n. 5482, 5649, 6027, 8685, 8701, 10153).

주35. 사람의 의지는 그의 생명 그 자체(the very being [esse] of his life)이며, 사랑의 선을 담는 그릇이다. 반면, 그의 이해는 거기서 나오는 생명의 출발점(the outgo [existere] of his life)이며, 신앙의 진리와 선을 담는 그릇이다 (AC.3619, 5002, 9282). The will of man is the very being [esse] of his life, and the receptacle of the good of love, while his understanding is the outgo [existere] of his life therefrom, and the receptacle of the truth and good of faith (n. 3619, 5002, 9282). 그래서 의지의 생명은 사람의 주된 생명이며, 이해의 생명이 거기서 나오는 것이다 (AC.585, 590, 3619, 7342, 8885, 9282, 10076, 10109, 10110). Thus the will’s life is the chief life of man, and the life of the understanding goes forth therefrom (n. 585, 590, 3619, 7342, 8885, 9282, 10076, 10109, 10110). 무엇이든지 의지에 의해 받아들여지면 생명이 되며, 사람에게 맞는 것이 된다 (AC.3161, 9386, 9393). Man is a man from his will and his understanding therefrom (n. 8911, 9069, 9071, 10076, 10109, 10110). 더욱이 올바르게 이해하고 의도하는, 그렇게 행하고자 마음을 먹는 사람은 타인에게 사랑받으며 귀히 여김을 받지만, 올바르게 이해는 하면서도 정작 그렇게 행할 마음은 안 먹는 사람은 거부되며 경멸을 당한다 (AC.8911, 10076). Moreover, everyone who wills and understands rightly is loved and valued by others, while he that understands rightly and does not will rightly is rejected and despised (n. 8911, 10076). 또한 사람은 사후, 생전에 그가 가졌던 의지와 그로 인한 이해는 그대로 남지만, 이해는 했으면서도 의도하지는 않았던 것들은 그때 사라진다. 그런 건 이미 그 사람 안에 없기 때문이다 (AC.9069, 9071, 9282, 9386, 10153). Also, after death man remains such as his will and his understanding therefrom have been, while the things that pertain to the understanding and not also to the will then vanish, because they are not in the man (n. 9069, 9071, 9282, 9386, 10153).

주36. 두 나라 간 커뮤니케이션과 결합은 천적-영적이라 하는 천사 공동체들에 의해서 일어난다 (AC.4047, 6435, 8796, 8802). Between the two kingdoms there is communication and conjunction by means of angelic societies which are called celestial-spiritual (n. 4047, 6435, 8796, 8802). 주님의 입류(The influx of the Lord)는 천적 나라를 경유, 영적 나라로 흐른다 (AC.3969, 6366). The influx of the Lord through the celestial kingdom into the spiritual (n. 3969, 6366).

세 천국이 있다 There Are Three Heavens

주37. 신적 질서에 속한 모든 것이 사람 안에서 합쳐졌고, 즉 갖추어졌고, 그래서 사람은 형태를 띤 신적 질서로 창조되었다 (AC.3628, 4219, 4220, 4223, 4523, 4524, 5114, 5168, 6013, 6057, 6605, 6626, 9706, 10156, 10472). All things of Divine order are brought together in man, and by creation man is Divine order in form (n. 3628, 4219, 4220, 4223, 4523, 4524, 5114, 5168, 6013, 6057, 6605, 6626, 9706, 10156, 10472). 사람 안에는, 천국의 이미지를 따라 형성된 속 사람과, 세상의 이미지를 따라 형성된 겉 사람이 있으며, 이것이 고대인들이 사람을 가리켜 소우주(小宇宙, a microcosm)라고 한 이유이다 (AC.3628, 4523, 5115, 6013, 6057, 9279, 9706, 10156, 10472). In man the internal man was formed after the image of heaven, and the external after the image of the world, and this is why man was called by the ancients a microcosm (n. 3628, 4523, 5115, 6013, 6057, 9279, 9706, 10156, 10472). 그래서 사람은, 그의 내면과 관련, 가장 큰 이미지를 따라 창조된, 가장 작은 형태의 천국이며, 주님으로 말미암아 그가 새롭게 될 때, 즉 거듭나게 될 때 바로 그런 사람이 된다 (AC.911, 1900, 1928, 3624–3631, 3634, 3884, 4041, 4279, 4523, 4524, 4625, 6013, 6057, 9279, 9632). Thus man in respect to his interiors is by creation a heaven in least form after the image of the greatest; and such also man becomes when he has been created anew or regenerated by the Lord (n. 911, 1900, 1928, 3624–3631, 3634, 3884, 4041, 4279, 4523, 4524, 4625, 6013, 6057, 9279, 9632).

주38. 세 천국, 가장 안쪽, 중간, 가장 바깥쪽, 혹은 세 번째(삼층천), 두 번째(이층천), 첫 번째(일층천) 천국이 있다 (AC.684, 9594, 10270). There are three heavens, inmost, middle, and outmost, or third, second, and first (n. 684, 9594, 10270). 그곳의 선들 역시 세 단계 질서를 따른다 (AC.4938, 4939, 9992, 10005, 10017). Goods therein also follow in triple order (n. 4938, 4939, 9992, 10005, 10017). 가장 안쪽, 즉 삼층천의 선을 천적(天的, celestial), 중간, 즉 이층천의 선을 영적(靈的, spiritual), 가장 바깥쪽, 즉 일층천의 선을 영적-자연적(spiritual-natural)이라 한다 (AC.4279, 4286, 4938, 4939, 9992, 10005, 10017, 10068). The good of the inmost or third heaven is called celestial, the good of the middle or second is called spiritual, and the good of the outmost or first, spiritual-natural (n. 4279, 4286, 4938, 4939, 9992, 10005, 10017, 10068).

주39. 천국들처럼 사람 안의 생명에도 여러 단계가 있다. 이들 단계는 사후, 그의 생명 상태에 따라 열린다 (AC.3747, 9594). There are as many degrees of life in man as there are heavens, and these are opened after death in accordance with his life (n. 3747, 9594). 천국은 사람 안에 있다 (AC.3884). Heaven is in man (n. 3884). 그러므로 세상에서 자기 안에 천국을 받아들인 사람은 사후, 천국에 간다 (AC.10717). Therefore he that has received heaven into himself in the world, comes into heaven after death (n. 10717).

주40. 내면의 것들은 주님의 신성에 더 가깝기에 더 완벽하다 (AC.3405, 5146, 5147). Interiors are more perfect because nearer to the Divine (n. 3405, 5146, 5147). 내적인 것 안에는 외적인 것 안에서는 한 가지 두루뭉술하게(as one general thing) 나타나는 것의 수천수만 배의 것(thousands and thousands of things)이 있다 (AC.5707). In the internal there are thousands and thousands of things that appear in the external as one general thing (n. 5707). 사람이 외적인 것들(externals) 안에 있다가 내면(interiors)을 향해 깨어나는 만큼, 그는 그만큼 더 빛 가운데로 들어가고, 그렇게 해서 지성(intelligence) 가운데로 들어간다. 이 고양(高揚)은 마치 구름이 걷히고 환해지는 것과 같다 (AC.4598, 6183, 6313). As far as man is raised from externals toward interiors, so far he comes into light and thus into intelligence; the elevation is like rising out of a cloud into clearness (n. 4598, 6183, 6313).

주41. 주님에게서 나오는 입류(Influx from the Lord)는 주님 자신에게서 직접 나온다. 또한 간접 입류는 한 천국에서 다른 천국으로 흐르는데, 그런 식으로 사람의 내면(man’s interiors)에까지 이른다 (AC.6063, 6307, 6472, 9682, 9683). Influx from the Lord is direct from Himself and also mediate through one heaven into another, and in like manner into man’s interiors (n. 6063, 6307, 6472, 9682, 9683). 주님에게서 나오는, 신성의 직접 입류(Direct influx of the Divine) (AC.6058, 6474–6478, 8717, 8728). Direct influx of the Divine from the Lord (n. 6058, 6474–6478, 8717, 8728). 영계에서 자연계로 흘러드는 간접 입류(Mediate influx) (AC.4067, 6982, 6985, 6996). Mediate influx through the spiritual world into the natural world (n. 4067, 6982, 6985, 6996).

주42. 모든 사물은 자기들보다 먼저 있는 것으로부터, 그러니까 맨 처음(a First)으로부터 나오며, 그런 식으로 존속한다. 존속이란 끊임없이 솟아나는 것이며, 그래서 그 어떤 것도 연결되어 있지 않으면 존재 자체가 불가능하다 (AC.3626–3628, 3648, 4523, 4524, 6040, 6056). All things spring from things prior to themselves, thus from a First, and in like manner subsist, because subsistence is a ceaseless springing forth; therefore nothing unconnected is possible (n. 3626–3628, 3648, 4523, 4524, 6040, 6056).

주43. 내적인 것들과 외적인 것들은 단계(degrees)에 따라 연속적이지 않고 서로 구분되며 따로따로다, 각 단계에는 저마다의 바운드리가 있다 (AC.3691, 5114, 5145, 8603, 10099). Things interior and things exterior are not continuous but distinct and discrete according to degrees, and each degree has its bounds (n. 3691, 5114, 5145, 8603, 10099). 어떤 하나는 다른 것으로부터 형성되며, 그렇게 형성된 것들은 무슨 연속적으로 더 순수하고 더 탁하고 한 게 아니다 (AC.6326, 6465). One thing is formed from another, and the things so formed are not continuously purer and grosser (n. 6326, 6465). 이런 단계에 따라 내적인 것, 외적인 것 간 차이가 지각될 때까지는 사람의 속 사람, 겉 사람은 물론, 내적 천국, 외적 천국(the interior and exterior heavens)도 명료하게 이해될 수 없다 (AC.5146, 6465, 10099, 10181). Until the difference between what is interior and what is exterior according to such degrees is perceived, neither the internal and external man nor the interior and exterior heavens can be clearly understood (n. 5146, 6465, 10099, 10181).

천국의 하나님은 주님이시다 The God of Heaven Is the Lord

주13. 그리스도인들은 저세상에서 유일신 사상(唯一神, the idea of the one God)에 대한 조사를 받게 되는데, 일단 그들을 조사해 보면, 그들은 삼신 사상(三神, the idea of three Gods)을 갖고 있음이 드러난다 (AC.2329, 5256, 10736, 10738, 10821). Christians were examined in the other life in regard to their idea of the one God and it was found that they held the idea of three Gods (n. 2329, 5256, 10736, 10738, 10821). 주님의 신적 삼위일체(A Divine trinity in the Lord)가 천국에서는 인정되고 있다 (AC.14, 15, 1729, 2005, 5256, 9303). A Divine trinity in the Lord is acknowledged in heaven (n. 14, 15, 1729, 2005, 5256, 9303).

주14. 어떤 생각으로도 지각될 수 없는 신성은 신앙의 대상이 될 수 없다 (AC.4733, 5110, 5663, 6982, 6996, 7004, 7211, 9356, 9359, 9972, 10067, 10267). A Divine that cannot be perceived by any idea cannot be received by faith (n. 4733, 5110, 5663, 6982, 6996, 7004, 7211, 9356, 9359, 9972, 10067, 10267).

주15. 천국 전체가 주님의 것이다 (AC.2751, 7086). The entire heaven is the Lord’s (n. 2751, 7086). 주님은 하늘과 땅의 모든 권세를 갖고 계신다 (AC.1607, 10089, 10827). He has all power in the heavens and on the earths (n. 1607, 10089, 10827). 주님이 천국을 다스리시므로 주님은 또한 천국에 의존하는 모든 것, 곧 지상의 모든 것도 다스리신다 (AC.2026, 2027, 4523, 4524). As the Lord rules heaven He rules also all things that depend thereon, thus all things in the world (n. 2026, 2027, 4523, 4524). 주님 홀로 지옥들로부터 떨어트리시고, 악에서 떠나 선 가운데 있게 하시며, 그렇게 해서 구원하시는 권세가 있으시다 (AC.10019). The Lord alone has power to remove the hells, to withhold from evil and hold in good, and thus to save (n. 10019).

천국을 만드는 것은 주님의 신성이다 It Is the Divine of the Lord That Makes Heaven

주16. 천국 천사들은 모든 선은 주님으로 말미암으며, 자신들로부터는 아무것도 말미암지 않는다는 사실을 인정한다. 주님은 그들 안에 있는 주님의 것 안에 계시고, 그들의 것 안에는 계시지 않으신다 (AC.9338, 10125, 10151, 10157). The angels of heaven acknowledge all good to be from the Lord, and nothing from themselves, and the Lord dwells in them in His own and not in their own (n. 9338, 10125, 10151, 10157). 그래서 말씀에서 ‘천사들’(angels)은 주님께 속한 무엇을 의미한다 (AC.1925, 2821, 3039, 4085, 8192, 10528). Therefore in the Word by “angels” something of the Lord is meant (n. 1925, 2821, 3039, 4085, 8192, 10528). 더 나아가 천사들은 주님으로 말미암는 신성 수용체라는 의미에서 ‘신들’(gods)이라 한다 (AC.4295, 4402, 7268, 7873, 8192, 8301). Furthermore, angels are called “gods” from the reception of the Divine from the Lord (n. 4295, 4402, 7268, 7873, 8192, 8301). 거듭, 선이기 때문에 선한 모든 것, 진리이기 때문에 진리인 모든 것, 결과적으로, 모든 평화, 사랑, 체어리티, 그리고 신앙은 주님으로 말미암는다 (AC.1614, 2016, 2751, 2882, 2883, 2891, 2892, 2904). Again, all good that is good, and all truth that is truth, consequently all peace, love, charity, and faith, are from the Lord (n. 1614, 2016, 2751, 2882, 2883, 2891, 2892, 2904). 또한 모든 지혜와 지성도 마찬가지다 (AC.109, 112, 121, 124). Also all wisdom and intelligence (n. 109, 112, 121, 124).

주17. 천국에 있는 사람들은 주 안에 있다 한다 (AC.3637, 3638). Those who are in heaven are said to be in the Lord (n. 3637, 3638).

주18. 주님으로 말미암는 선은 그 안에 내적으로 주님이 계시지만, 사람으로 말미암는 선은 그렇지 않다 (AC.1802, 3951, 8480). Good from the Lord has the Lord inwardly in it, but good from one’s own has not (n. 1802, 3951, 8480).

천국에서 주님의 신성은 주님 사랑과 이웃 사랑이다 In Heaven the Divine of the Lord Is Love to Him and Charity toward the Neighbor

주19. 말씀에서 ‘불’(fire)은 천국적 사랑과 지옥적 사랑을 의미한다 (AC.934, 4906, 5215). In the Word “fire” signifies heavenly love and infernal love (n. 934, 4906, 5215). ‘거룩한 하늘의 불’(Holy and heavenly fire)은 신적 사랑과 그 사랑에 속한 모든 애정을 의미한다 (AC.934, 6314, 6832). “Holy and heavenly fire” signifies Divine love, and every affection that belongs to that love (n. 934, 6314, 6832). 불에서 나오는 ‘빛’(Light)은 사랑의 선에서 나오는 진리를 의미한다. 천국에 충만한 빛은 신적 진리를 의미한다 (AC.3195, 3485, 3636, 3643, 3993, 4302, 4413, 4415, 9548, 9684). “Light” from fire signifies truth going forth from good of love; and light in heaven signifies Divine truth (n. 3195, 3485, 3636, 3643, 3993, 4302, 4413, 4415, 9548, 9684).

주20. 사랑은 생명의 불이며, 생명 자체가 실제로 사랑에서 나온다 (AC.4906, 5071, 6032, 6314). Love is the fire of life, and life itself is actually therefrom (n. 4906, 5071, 6032, 6314).

주21. 주님과 이웃을 사랑하는 것은 주님의 계명을 따라 사는 것이다 (AC.10143, 10153, 10310, 10578, 10648). To love the Lord and the neighbor is to live according to the Lord’s commandments (n. 10143, 10153, 10310, 10578, 10648).

주22. 이웃을 사랑한다는 것은 이웃을 한 개인으로 사랑하는 것이 아니라 그의 안에 있는 주님의 것(in him from which he is what he is)인 진리와 선을 사랑하는 것이다 (AC.5028, 10336). To love the neighbor is not to love the person, but to love that in him from which he is what he is, that is, his truth and good (n. 5028, 10336). 사람을 사랑하지, 그 사람 안에 있는 주님의 것을 사랑하지는 않는 사람들은 악과 선을 같이 사랑하는 것이다 (AC.3820). Those who love the person, and not that in him from which he is what he is, love evil and good alike (n. 3820). 체어리티(charity)는 진리를 위하여 진리를 의도하고, 진리로 감동되어 진리에 대한 애정을 갖는 것이다 (AC.3876, 3877). Charity is willing truths and being affected by truths for the sake of truths (n. 3876, 3877). 이웃을 향한 체어리티는 모든 일과 모든 역할, 쓰임새 가운데 선, 정의 및 의로운 것을 행하는 것이다 (AC.8120–8122). Charity toward the neighbor is doing what is good, just, and right, in every work and in every function (n. 8120–8122).

주23. 천사들은 사랑과 체어리티의 형상이다 (AC.3804, 4735, 4797, 4985, 5199, 5530, 9879, 10177). Angels are forms of love and charity (n. 3804, 4735, 4797, 4985, 5199, 5530, 9879, 10177).

주24. 영적 구체(球體, sphere)는 생명의 구체인데, 모든 사랑, 영, 천사에게서 흘러넘치고 뿜어져 나와 그들 자신을 에워싼다 (AC.4464, 5179, 7454, 8630). A spiritual sphere, which is a sphere of the life, overflows and pours forth from every man, spirit, and angel, and encompasses them (n. 4464, 5179, 7454, 8630). 이것은 그들의 애정과 그에 따른 사고의 생명에서 나온다 (AC.2489, 4464, 6206). It flows from the life of their affection and consequent thought (n. 2489, 4464, 6206).

주25. 영들과 천사들은 끊임없이 자기들이 사랑하는 대상을 향해 돌아선다. 천국에 있는 사람들은 끊임없이 주님을 향해 돌아선다 (AC.10130, 10189, 10420, 10702). Spirits and angels turn themselves constantly to their loves, and those in the heavens turn themselves constantly to the Lord (n. 10130, 10189, 10420, 10702). 저세상 방위는 자신의 얼굴 방향에 따라 제각각이며, 그렇게 정해진다. 이 세상 방위하고는 다르다 (AC.10130, 10189, 10420, 10702). Quarters in the other life are to each one in accordance with the direction of his face, and are thereby determined, otherwise than in the world (n. 10130, 10189, 10420, 10702).

주26. 셀 수 없는 것들이 사랑 안에 담긴다. 사랑은 자기와 조화를 이루는 모든 것을 자기 자신한테로 모은다 (AC.2500, 2572, 3078, 3189, 6323, 7490, 7750). Innumerable things are contained in love, and love gathers to itself all things that are in harmony with it (n. 2500, 2572, 3078, 3189, 6323, 7490, 7750).

주1. [별도 언급이 없는 한, 이번 판의 모든 참조는 엠마누엘 스베덴보리의 아르카나 코엘레스티아(Arcana Coelestia)에 관한 것이며, 스베덴보리가 작성한 것이다. References in this edition, unless otherwise noted, are to Emanuel Swedenborg’s Arcana Coelestia and were made by Swedenborg.] 시대의 종말(The consummation of the age)은 교회의 마지막 때(the final period of the church)이다 (AC.4535, 10622). The consummation of the age is the final period of the church (n. 4535, 10622).
