※ ‘구리’의 속뜻, 자연적 선

22절, 씰라는 두발가인을 낳았으니 그는 구리와 쇠로 여러 가지 기구를 만드는 자요 두발가인의 누이는 나아마였더라 And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron; and the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.

오늘날 세상에 알려지지 않은 사실이 있는데요, 바로 ‘구리’(銅, brass)는 자연적 선을 의미한다는 것과, 말씀에 나오는 모든 금속은 그 속뜻으로는 어떤 특별한 의미들을 갖는다는 사실입니다. 가령, ‘금’(金, gold)은 천적 선을, ‘은’(銀, silver)은 영적 진리를, ‘동’(銅, brass)은 자연적 선을, ‘철’(鐵, iron)은 자연적 진리를, 그리고 그렇게 다른 금속들도 그런데요, ‘나무’(木, wood)와 ‘돌’(石, stone)도 마찬가지입니다. 법궤와 성막, 그리고 성전에 사용된 ‘금’, ‘은’, ‘동’ 및 ‘나무’가 그런 건데요, 그 자세한 것은 주님의 신적 자비로 나중에 다루겠습니다. 거기에 이런 의미들이 있다는 것이 예언서들을 보면 아주 분명히 나타나는데요, 예를 들면, 이사야입니다. It is unknown to the world at the present day that “brass” signifies natural good, and also that every metal mentioned in the Word has a specific signification in the internal sense—as “gold,” celestial good; “silver,” spiritual truth; “brass,” natural good; “iron,” natural truth; and so on with the other metals, and in like manner “wood” and “stone.” Such things were signified by the “gold,” “silver,” “brass,” and “wood,” used in the ark and in the tabernacle and in the temple, concerning which, of the Lord’s Divine mercy hereafter. That such is their signification is manifest from the prophets, as from Isaiah:

16네가 이방 나라들의 젖을 빨며 뭇 왕의 젖을 빨고 나 여호와는 네 구원자, 네 구속자, 야곱의 전능자인 줄 알리라 17내가 금을 가지고 놋을 대신하며 은을 가지고 철을 대신하며 놋으로 나무를 대신하며 철로 돌을 대신하며 화평을 세워 관원으로 삼으며 공의를 세워 감독으로 삼으리니 (사60:16-17) Thou shalt also suck the milk of the gentiles, and shalt suck the breast of kings. For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron; I will also make thy tribute peace, and thine exactors righteousness, (Isa. 60:16–17)

이 내용은 주님의 오심과 그의 나라, 그리고 천적 교회에 관한 것입니다. ‘금을 가지고 놋을 대신하며’는 자연적 선을 대신하는 천적 선을, ‘은을 가지고 철을 대신하며’는 자연적 진리를 대신하는 영적 진리를, ‘놋으로 나무를 대신하며’는 육적(肉的, corporeal) 선을 대신하는 자연적 선을, ‘철로 돌을 대신하며’는 감각적 진리를 대신하는 자연적 진리를 각각 의미합니다. 에스겔입니다. treating of the Lord’s advent, of his kingdom, and of the celestial church. “For brass gold,” signifies for natural good celestial good; “for iron silver,” signifies for natural truth spiritual truth; “for wood brass,” signifies for corporeal good natural good; “for stones iron,” signifies for sensuous truth natural truth. In Ezekiel:

야완과 두발과 메섹은 네 상인이 되었음이여 사람과 놋그릇을 가지고 네 상품을 바꾸어 갔도다 (겔27:13) Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, these were thy merchants, in the soul of man, and vessels of brass they gave thy trading, (Ezek. 27:13)

두로(Tyre), 영적, 천적 부를 소유한 사람들을 의미하는 두로에 대해 말하고 있습니다. ‘놋그릇’은 자연적 선입니다. speaking of Tyre, by which are signified those who possess spiritual and celestial riches; “vessels of brass” are natural goods.

신명기입니다. In Moses:

네가 먹을 것에 모자람이 없고 네게 아무 부족함이 없는 땅이며 그 땅의 돌은 철이요 산에서는 동을 캘 것이라 (신8:9) A land whose stones are iron, and out of whose mountains thou mayest hew brass, (Deut. 8:9)

여기 또한 ‘돌’은 감각적 진리를, ‘철’은 자연적, 즉 합리적(rational) 진리를, ‘동’은 자연적 선을 가리킵니다. 에스겔이 본 것은 where also “stones” denote sensuous truth; “iron,” natural, that is, rational truth; and “brass,” natural good. Ezekiel saw:

5그 속에서 네 생물의 형상이 나타나는데 그들의 모양이 이러하니 그들에게 사람의 형상이 있더라 6그들에게 각각 네 얼굴과 네 날개가 있고 7그들의 다리는 곧은 다리요 그들의 발바닥은 송아지 발바닥 같고 광낸 구리 같이 빛나며 (겔1:7) Four living creatures, or cherubs, whose feet sparkled like the appearance of burnished brass, (Ezek. 1:7)

여기 다시 ‘구리’는 자연적 선을 의미합니다. 사람의 ‘발’은 자연적인 것을 표현하기 때문입니다. 다니엘에게도 같은 식으로 보였습니다. where again “brass” signifies natural good, for the “foot” of man represents what is natural. In like manner there appeared to Daniel,

5그 때에 내가 눈을 들어 바라본즉 한 사람이 세마포 옷을 입었고 허리에는 우바스 순금 띠를 띠었더라 6또 그의 몸은 황옥 같고 그의 얼굴은 번갯빛 같고 그의 눈은 횃불 같고 그의 팔과 발은 빛난 놋과 같고 그의 말소리는 무리의 소리와 같더라 (단10:5-6) A man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with gold of Uphaz, his body also was like the beryl, and his arms and his feet like the appearance of burnished brass. (Dan. 10:5–6)

‘놋뱀’이 주님의 감각적, 자연적 선을 표현하는 것을 위 다니엘 본문에서 보실 수 있습니다. That the “brazen serpent” (Num. 21:9) represented the sensuous and natural good of the Lord may be seen above.

모세가 놋뱀을 만들어 장대 위에 다니 뱀에게 물린 자가 놋뱀을 쳐다본즉 모두 살더라 (민21:9)
