※ ‘주의 낯을 뵈옵지 못하리니’의 속뜻, 사랑의 신앙의 모든 선으로부터 분리됨

14절, 주께서 오늘 이 지면에서 나를 쫓아내시온즉 내가 주의 낯을 뵈옵지 못하리니 내가 땅에서 피하며 유리하는 자가 될지라 무릇 나를 만나는 자마다 나를 죽이겠나이다 Behold, thou hast cast me out this day from the faces of the ground; and from thy faces shall I be hid, and I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth; and it shall come to pass that everyone that findeth me shall slay me.

‘주의 낯을 뵈옵지 못하리니’가 사랑의 신앙의 모든 선으로부터 분리됨이라는 것은 ‘주의 낯’의 상징을 보면 분명합니다. ‘주의 낯’은 앞서 말씀드린 것처럼 자비입니다. 이 자비에서 사랑의 신앙의 모든 선이 나오는데요, 그래서 여기 그의 ‘낯’으로 신앙의 선을 의미하고 있는 것입니다. That to be “hid from thy faces” signifies to be separated from all the good of the faith of love is evident from the signification of the “faces of Jehovah.” The “face of Jehovah,” as before said, is mercy, from which proceed all the goods of the faith of love, and therefore the goods of faith are here signified by his “faces.”

※ 신앙에도 두 종류가 있음을 이젠 알게 되었습니다. 하나는 가인의 신앙처럼 사랑과 분리되는 신앙이고, 다른 하나는 아벨의 신앙처럼 사랑과 결합하는 신앙입니다. 여기 ‘사랑의 신앙의 모든 선’은 아벨의 신앙처럼 사랑과 결합된 신앙을 말하며, 그런 신앙으로 행하는 모든 선을 말합니다.

‘이 지면에서 쫓아내시온즉’은 교회의 모든 진리로부터 분리됨을, ‘주의 낯을 뵈옵지 못하리니’는 사랑의 신앙의 모든 선으로부터 분리됨을, ‘땅에서 피하며 유리하는 자’는 무엇이 참이요 선인지를 알지 못함을, ‘무릇 나를 만나는 자마다 나를 죽이겠나이다’는 모든 악과 거짓이 그를 파괴할 것을 의미합니다. To be “cast out from the faces of the ground” signifies to be separated from all the truth of the church; to be “hid from thy faces” signifies to be separated from all the good of faith of love; to be a “fugitive and a wanderer in the earth” is not to know what is true and good; “everyone that findeth me shall slay me” signifies that all evil and falsity would destroy him.

‘네가 선을 행하면 어찌 낯을 들지 못하겠느냐’는 만일 네가 선을 행하고자 하는 사람이라면 너는 체어리티의 사람이라는 것이며, ‘선을 행하지 아니하면 죄가 문에 엎드려 있느니라’는 만일 그렇지 않으면 너는 체어리티의 사람이 아니고 대신 악인이라는 말입니다. ‘죄가 너를 원하나 너는 죄를 다스릴지니라’는 체어리티는 너와 함께 있기를 무척 원하지만 그럴 수가 없는 게, 너는 오히려 그것에 대한 지배를 무척 원하기 때문이라는 것입니다. “If thou doest well, an uplifting” signifies that if thou art well disposed, thou hast charity; “if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door” signifies that if thou art not well disposed, thou hast no charity, but evil. “To thee is his desire, and thou rulest over him” signifies that charity is desirous to be with thee, but cannot because thou desirest to rule over it.
