23절, 여호와 하나님이 에덴동산에서 그를 내보내어 그의 근원이 된 땅을 갈게 하시니라 Therefore Jehovah God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.

‘에덴동산에서 그를 내보내어’는 모든 지성과 지혜를 박탈당하는 것이며, ‘그의 근원이 된 땅을 갈게’는 육의 상태가 되는 것, 곧 거듭나기 전 상태로 돌아가는 것입니다. ‘에덴동산에서 그를 내보내어’가 모든 지성과 지혜를 박탈당하는 것임은 위에서 언급한 대로, ‘동산’, 그리고 ‘에덴’의 상징을 생각하면 분명한데요, ‘동산’은 지성, 혹은 진리에 대한 이해를, 사랑을 상징하는 ‘에덴’은 지혜, 혹은 선에 대한 의지를 각각 상징하기 때문입니다. To be “cast out of the garden of Eden” is to be deprived of all intelligence and wisdom; and to “till the ground from which he was taken” is to become corporeal, as he was previous to regeneration. That to be “cast out of the garden of Eden” is to be deprived of all intelligence and wisdom is evident from the signification of a “garden,” and of “Eden,” as above; for a “garden” signifies intelligence, or the understanding of truth; and “Eden,” being significative of love, signifies wisdom, or the will of good.

‘그의 근원이 된 땅을 갈게’가 육의 상태, 곧 거듭나기 전 상태로 돌아감을 상징한다는 것은 위 19절 말씀에서 이미 보았는데요, 그 말씀과 유사하지요. That to “till the ground from which he was taken” signifies to become corporeal, such as he was before regeneration, has been shown above (verse 19), where similar words occur.

네가 흙으로 돌아갈 때까지 얼굴에 땀을 흘려야 먹을 것을 먹으리니 네가 그것에서 취함을 입었음이라 너는 흙이니 흙으로 돌아갈 것이니라 하시니라 (창3:19)
