※ 내세(來世, the other life)에 있는 악한 영들의 상태

14절, 주께서 오늘 이 지면에서 나를 쫓아내시온즉 내가 주의 낯을 뵈옵지 못하리니 내가 땅에서 피하며 유리하는 자가 될지라 무릇 나를 만나는 자마다 나를 죽이겠나이다 Behold, thou hast cast me out this day from the faces of the ground; and from thy faces shall I be hid, and I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth; and it shall come to pass that everyone that findeth me shall slay me.

내세(來世, the other life)에 있는 악한 영들의 상태를 보면 분명히 악과 거짓 가운데 있는 사람들은 모든 사람을 두려워하고 있습니다. 자기 자신에게서 모든 체어리티를 박탈한 사람들은 정처 없이 떠돌며, 이리저리 도망다닙니다. 그들이 어디를 가든지, 가령 어느 무리든지 그들은 이들이 그저 다가오기만 할 뿐인데도 이들의 캐릭터를 즉시 지각합니다. 그런 것이 내세에 존재하기 때문인데, 그들은 이들을 쫓아낼 뿐만 아니라 할 수만 있으면 죽이려고까지 하는 적대감을 품고 너무하다 할 정도로 잔인하게 대합니다. 악한 영들은 서로를 잔인하게 대하며 학대하는 데서 가장 큰 기쁨을 얻습니다. 그것이 그들의 가장 큰 만족감이기 때문입니다. 악과 거짓 자체가 이런 것의 원인이라는 사실이 지금까지는 알려지지 않았습니다. 사람이 다른 사람을 위해 무엇을 원하든 자기한테로 돌아오기 때문입니다.  The state of evil spirits in the other life shows most clearly that those who are in evil and falsity are afraid of everybody. Those who have deprived themselves of all charity wander about, and flee from place to place. Wherever they go, if to any societies, these at once perceive their character by their mere coming, for such is the perception that exists in the other life; and they not only drive them away, but also severely punish them, and with such animosity that they would kill them if they could. Evil spirits take the greatest delight in punishing and tormenting one another; it is their highest gratification. Not until now has it been known that evil and falsity themselves are the cause of this, for whatever anyone desires for another returns upon himself.

※ 생전에 다른 사람들의 행복을 원했던 사람은 사후에 그 행복을 돌려받으며, 생전에 다른 사람들의 불행을 원했던 사람은 사후에 그 불행을 돌려받게 된다는 말씀입니다.

거짓은 그 안에 거짓에 대한 형벌이 들어 있으며, 악도 그 안에 악에 대한 형벌이 들어 있습니다. 그 결과, 그들은 자기들 안에 이런 형벌에 대한 두려움을 가지고 있습니다. Falsity has in itself the penalty of falsity, and evil has in itself the penalty of evil, and consequently they have in themselves the fear of these penalties.
