남자와 여자를 창조하셨고 그들이 창조되던 날에 하나님이 그들에게 복을 주시고 그들의 이름을 사람이라 일컬으셨더라 Male and female created he them, and blessed them, and called their name man, in the day when they were created. (창5:2)

475. ‘남자와 여자’라는 이 표현은, 신앙과 사랑 간 결혼을 상징하며, ‘그들의 이름을 사람이라 일컬으심’이라는 이 표현은, 그들은 특별한 뜻으로는 ‘사람’[homo]이라고 하는 교회였음을 상징합니다. By “male and female,” is signified the marriage between faith and love; by “calling their name man,” is signified that they were the church, which, in an especial sense, is called “man” [homo].

476. ‘남자와 여자’라는 표현이 신앙과 사랑 간 결혼을 상징한다는 것은 앞에서 분명히 말씀드렸고, 증명도 했습니다. 거기서 보여드린 것은, 남성 혹은 남자[vir]는 이해력과 그에 속한 모든 것, 곧 신앙의 모든 것을 상징한다는 것과, 여성 혹은 여자는 의지와 의지에 속한 것들, 곧 사랑과 관련된 모든 것입니다. 그런 이유로, 그녀를 이름하여 이브라는, 생명을 상징하는 이름으로 불렀습니다. 이 생명은 오직 사랑에만 속한 것입니다. That by “male and female” is signified the marriage between faith and love was declared and proved above, where it was shown that the male or man [vir] signifies the understanding and whatever belongs to it, consequently everything of faith; and that the female or woman signifies the will, or the things appertaining to the will, consequently whatever has relation to love; wherefore she was called Eve, a name signifying life, which is of love alone.

그래서 앞서 보여드린 대로, 여성은 또한 교회를 상징합니다. 그리고 남성은, 그 교회에 속한 사람[vir]을 상징합니다. By the female therefore is also signified the church, as has been previously shown; and by the male, a man [vir] of the church.

여기 주제는 교회가 영적이었을 때 상태, 그리고 나중에 천적으로 변화되어 간 상태에 관한 것이며, 그래서 창1:26-27처럼 ‘남자’가 ‘여자’보다 먼저 나오는 것입니다. The subject here is the state of the church when it was spiritual, and which was afterwards made celestial, wherefore “male” is mentioned before “female,” as also in chapter 1:26–27.

26하나님이 이르시되 우리의 형상을 따라 우리의 모양대로 우리가 사람을 만들고 그들로 바다의 물고기와 하늘의 새와 가축과 온 땅과 땅에 기는 모든 것을 다스리게 하자 하시고 27하나님이 자기 형상 곧 하나님의 형상대로 사람을 창조하시되 남자와 여자를 창조하시고 (창1:26-27)

‘창조하다’라는 표현은 또한 영적 인간을 가리키는 표현입니다만 나중에 결혼이라는 효과가 나타나면, 즉, 교회가 천적 상태로 완성이 되면, 그때는 더 이상 ‘남자와 여자’가 아닌, ‘사람’, 곧 그들의 결혼으로 말미암아 둘 다를 상징하는 ‘사람’[homo]이라 하게 됩니다. 이것이 지금 보시듯 ‘그들의 이름을 사람이라 일컬으셨더라’라는 표현이 이어지는 이유이며, 이것이 바로 교회를 상징하는 것입니다. The expression to “create” also has reference to the spiritual man; but afterwards when the marriage has been effected, that is, when the church has been made celestial, it is not said “male and female,” but “man” [homo], who, by reason of their marriage, signifies both; wherefore it presently follows, “and he called their name man,” by which is signified the church.

477. ‘사람’이 태고교회임은 그동안 앞에서 종종 말씀드렸고, 또 보여도 드렸습니다. 그 이유는, 가장 높은 뜻으로는 홀로 주님 자신, 사람이시기 때문입니다. That “man” is the most ancient church has been often said and shown above; for in the supreme sense the Lord himself alone is man.

이런 이유, 곧, 사람이신 주님을 닮았다 하여 태고교회를 가리켜 사람이라 하며, 역시 같은 이유, 곧, 사람이신 주님의 이미지라 하여 나중에 영적 교회도 사람이라고 합니다. From this the celestial church is called man, as being a likeness, and from this the spiritual church is afterwards so called because it was an image.
