앞서 말한 대로, 이 천적 천사들이 지혜와 영광에 있어 다른 천사들보다 뛰어난 이유는, 그들이 끊임없이 신적 진리를 생활 속에 직접, 즉시 받아들이기 때문이다. 즉 그들은 신적 진리를 듣자마자 그것을 의도하고 행하며(will and do), 결코 기억해 두었다가 나중에 옳은지 그른지 생각하지 않는다. 이 천사들은 어떤 진리를 들으면, 주의 입류(入流, influx)에 의해 즉시 그것이 진리라는 것을 알게 된다. 주님은 사람의 의지 속으로는 직접(directly) 들어가시고, 생각 속으로는 의지를 거쳐 간접적으로 들어가시기 때문이다. 같은 말이지만, 주님은 선 안으로는 직접 유입하시지만, 진리 안으로는 선을 거쳐 간접적으로 유입하신다.주34 왜 두 가지가 같은 말이 되는가 하면, 사람의 의지와 거기서 나오는 행동에 속한 것은 선이라 부르며, 기억과 거기서 나오는 생각에 속한 것은 진리라고 부르기 때문이다. 실로 모든 진리는 사람의 의지 속에 들어가는 순간 선으로 바뀌어 사랑 안에 심어진다. 그러나 그냥 기억과 생각 안에만 머무는 진리는 선이 되지 못하고 생명이 없으며, 그 사람 자신의 것이 되지 못한다. 왜냐하면, 사람은 그 의지와 의지에서 비롯된 사고 능력(understanding, 이해, 이성)으로 인해 사람인 것이며, 의지를 떠난 사고 능력만으로는 사람이 되지 못하기 때문이다.주35 It has been said that these angels have wisdom and glory above others for the reason that they have received and continue to receive Divine truths at once in their life. For as soon as they hear Divine truths, they will and do them, instead of storing them up in the memory and afterwards considering whether they are true. They know at once by influx from the Lord whether the truth they hear is true; for the Lord flows directly into man’s willing, but mediately through his willing into his thinking. Or what is the same, the Lord flows directly into good, but mediately through good into truth.34 That is called good which belongs to the will and action therefrom, while that is called truth that belongs to the memory and to the thought therefrom. Moreover, every truth is turned into good and implanted in love as soon as it enters into the will; but so long as truth remains in the memory and in the thought therefrom it does not become good, nor does it live, nor is it appropriated to man, since man is a man from his will and understanding therefrom, and not from his understanding separated from his will.35

The will of man is the very being [esse] of his life, and the receptacle of the good of love, while his understanding is the outgo [existere] of his life therefrom, and the receptacle of the truth and good of faith (n. 3619, 5002, 9282). 그래서 의지의 생명은 사람의 주된 생명이며, 이해, 이성의 생명이 거기서 나오는 것이다. Thus the will’s life is the chief life of man, and the life of the understanding goes forth therefrom (n. 585, 590, 3619, 7342, 8885, 9282, 10076, 10109, 10110). 무엇이든지 의지에 의해 받아들여지는 것은 생명이 되며, 사람에게 맞춰져 알맞는 것이 된다. Whatever is received by the will comes to be the life, and is appropriated to man (n. 3161, 9386, 9393). 사람은 의지와 거기서 나오는 이해, 이성으로 사람인 것이다. Man is a man from his will and his understanding therefrom (n. 8911, 9069, 9071, 10076, 10109, 10110). 더욱이, 올바르게 이해하고 의도하는, 그렇게 행하고자 마음을 먹는 사람은 타인에게 사랑받으며, 귀히 여김을 받지만, 올바르게 이해는 하면서도 정작 그렇게 행할 마음은 안 먹는 사람은 거부되며, 경멸을 당한다. Moreover, everyone who wills and understands rightly is loved and valued by others, while he that understands rightly and does not will rightly is rejected and despised (n. 8911, 10076). 또한, 사람은 사후, 생전에 그가 가졌던 의지와 그로 인한 이해, 이성은 그대로 남지만, 이해는 했으면서도 의도하지는 않았던 것들은 그때 사라진다. 그런 건 이미 그 사람 안에 없기 때문이다. Also, after death man remains such as his will and his understanding therefrom have been, while the things that pertain to the understanding and not also to the will then vanish, because they are not in the man (n. 9069, 9071, 9282, 9386, 10153).

주님의 천적 나라에 있는 천사들은 주님의 신성을 보다 내적으로 받기 때문에, 영적 나라의 천사들보다 지혜와 영광에 있어 훨씬 뛰어나다. 그들이 주님을 사랑하므로 더욱 주님과 가깝고 친밀하게 결합되기 때문이다.주32 그것은 이들이 신적 진리를 계속 그들의 생활 속에 직접, 즉시(at once) 받아들이기 때문에 가능하다. 이와 대조적으로 영적 천사들은 신적 진리를 먼저 그들의 기억과 사고 속으로 받아들인다. 그러므로 천적 천사들은 신적 진리가 그들의 마음에 새겨져 있어 진리를 직관하며(perceive), 진리를 마치 자기 안에 들어있는 것처럼 본다. 그들은 진리가 옳은지 그른지 추론하지(reason about) 않는다.주33 예레미야서에 다음과 같이 기록된 것이 바로 이들에 대한 말씀이다. The angels in the Lord’s celestial kingdom, from their more interior reception of the Divine of the Lord, far excel in wisdom and glory the angels that are in his spiritual kingdom; for they are in love to the Lord, and consequently are nearer and more closely conjoined to him.32 These angels are such because they have received and continue to receive Divine truths at once in their life, and not first in memory and thought, as the spiritual angels do. Consequently they have Divine truths written in their hearts, and they perceive them, and as it were see them in themselves; nor do they ever reason about them whether they are true or not.33 They are such as are described in Jeremiah:

33그러나 그 날 후에 내가 이스라엘 집과 맺을 언약은 이러하니 곧 내가 나의 법을 그들의 속에 두며 그들의 마음에 기록하여 나는 그들의 하나님이 되고 그들은 내 백성이 될 것이라 여호와의 말씀이니라 34그들이 다시는 각기 이웃과 형제를 가리켜 이르기를 너는 여호와를 알라 하지 아니하리니 이는 작은 자로부터 큰 자까지 다 나를 알기 때문이라 내가 그들의 악행을 사하고 다시는 그 죄를 기억하지 아니하리라 여호와의 말씀이니라 (렘31:33, 34) I will put my law in their mind, and will write it in their heart. They shall teach no more everyone his friend and everyone his brother, saying, Know ye Jehovah. They shall know Me, from the least of them even to the greatest of them (Jer. 31:33, 34).

또 이사야서에는 And they are called in Isaiah:

네 모든 자녀는 여호와의 교훈을 받을 것이니 네 자녀에게는 큰 평안이 있을 것이며 (사54:13) Taught of Jehovah (Isa. 54:13).

그들이 ‘여호와의 교훈을 받을 것이라’고 하였다. ‘여호와의 교훈을 받는 것’(the taught of Jehovah)은 주님이 가르치시는 것을 말한다. 이것은 요한복음 6장 45, 46절에 주께서 직접 말씀하셨다. That the “taught of Jehovah” are those who are taught by the Lord he himself teaches in John 6:45, 46.

주32. 천적 천사들은 지혜에 있어 영적 천사들을 측량할 수 없을 정도로 초월한다. The celestial angels immeasurably surpass in wisdom the spiritual angels (n. 2718, 9995). 천적 천사들과 영적 천사들 간 구분, 구별의 본질 The nature of the distinction between celestial angels and spiritual angels (n. 2088, 2669, 2708, 2715, 3235, 3240, 4788, 7068, 8521, 9277, 10295).

주33. 천적 천사들은 신앙의 진리들에 대해 추론하지 않는다. 그들은 그것들을 그냥 직관하기 때문이다. 그러나 영적 천사들은 그것들에 대해 그것이 진리인지 아닌지를 추론한다. The celestial angels do not reason about truths of faith, because they perceive them in themselves; but the spiritual angels reason about them whether they are true or not (n. 202, 337, 597, 607, 784, 1121, 1384, 1898, 1919, 3246, 4448, 7680, 7877, 8780, 9277, 10786).

천적 나라는 주의 성직(聖職)의 나라(the Lord’s priestly kingdom)라고도 불린다. 성경 말씀에서는 ‘주의 처소’(his dwelling place)라고 한다. 영적 나라는 주의 왕권(王權)의 나라(his royal kingdom)라고도 하며, 성경에 ‘주의 보좌’(his throne)라고 표현되어 있다. 또 이 세상에 계실 때의 주님을 신성의 천적 측면(the celestial Divine the Lord)에서 ‘예수’라 했고, 신성의 영적 측면으로는 ‘그리스도’라고 칭했다. The celestial kingdom is called also the Lord’s priestly kingdom, and in the Word “his dwelling place”; while the spiritual kingdom is called his royal kingdom, and in the Word “his throne.” And from the celestial Divine the Lord in the world was called “Jesus,” while from the spiritual Divine he was called “Christ.”
