여기서 다루어지고 있는 주제가 태고교회의 출생 혹은 퍼져나감이기 때문에, 이것을 영적 상태에서 천적 상태로 가는 것으로 처음 묘사하고 있습니다. 퍼져나감들이 여기서부터 이어지기 때문입니다. Since therefore the subject here treated of is the birth or propagation of the most ancient church, this is first described as coming from a spiritual to a celestial state, for the propagations follow from this.

‘하나님의 모양’(a likeness of God)은 천적 인간, 그리고 ‘하나님의 형상’(an image of God)은 영적 인간임 또한 앞서 보여드렸습니다. (cf. 창1:26) ‘형상’(An image)은 ‘모양’(a likeness)을 준비하는 것이며, ‘모양’은 실물과 똑같아 보이는 모방(a real replica)입니다. 천적 인간은 주님에 의해 온전히 다스림을 받는, 주님의 ‘모양’이기 때문입니다. That a “likeness of God” is a celestial man, and an “image of God,” a spiritual man, has also been previously shown. An “image” is preparatory to a “likeness,” and a “likeness” is a real replica, for a celestial man is entirely governed by the Lord, as his “likeness.”

‘하나님이 사람을 창조하실 때에’는 그가 영적으로 지음 받았음을, ‘하나님의 모양대로 지으시되’는 그가 천적으로 지음 받았음을 의미한다는 사실은 앞에서 말씀드리고 보여드린 내용에 나옵니다. ‘창조하다’(to create)라는 표현은 새롭게 창조되고 있는, 즉 거듭나는 중인 사람에게 잘 어울리며, ‘만들다’(make)라는 말은 온전해져 가는 사람에게 잘 어울립니다. 그런 까닭에 영적 인간을 천적으로 만드신 것을 ‘하나님이 그 창조하시며 만드시던(created in making) 모든 일을 마치시고 안식하셨다’(창2:2)고 하신 앞 2장 말씀처럼, ‘창조하기’(creating), ‘짓기’(forming) 및 ‘만들기’(making) 간에 관찰되는 정확한 차이가 존재하는 것입니다. 다른 구절들에서도 ‘창조하다’(to create)는 영적 인간에, ‘만들다’(to make), 즉 온전하게 하다(to perfect)는 천적 인간에 연관됩니다. (cf. AC.16, 88) That by the “day in which God created man” is signified his being made spiritual, and that by “God making him in his likeness” is signified his being made celestial, appears from what was said and shown above. The expression to “create” properly relates to man when he is being created anew, or regenerated; and the word “make,” when he is being perfected; wherefore in the Word there is an accurate distinction observed between “creating,” “forming,” and “making,” as was shown above in the second chapter, where it is said of the spiritual man made celestial that “God rested from all his work, which God created in making”; and in other passages also, to “create” relates to the spiritual man, and to “make,” that is, to perfect, to the celestial man.
