1사람이 땅 위에 번성하기 시작할 때에 그들에게서 딸들이 나니 And it came to pass that man began to multiply himself upon the faces of the ground, and daughters were born unto them. 2하나님의 아들들이 사람의 딸들의 아름다움을 보고 자기들이 좋아하는 모든 여자를 아내로 삼는지라 And the sons of God saw the daughters of man that they were good; and they took to themselves wives of all that they chose. 3여호와께서 이르시되 나의 영이 영원히 사람과 함께 하지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 육신이 됨이라 그러나 그들의 날은 백이십 년이 되리라 하시니라 And Jehovah said, My spirit shall not reprove man forever, for that he is flesh; and his days shall be a hundred and twenty years. 4당시에 땅에는 네피림이 있었고 그 후에도 하나님의 아들들이 사람의 딸들에게로 들어와 자식을 낳았으니 그들은 용사라 고대에 명성이 있는 사람들이었더라 There were Nephilim in the earth in those days; and most especially after the sons of God went in unto the daughters of man, and they bare to them; the same became mighty men, who were of old, men of renown. 5여호와께서 사람의 죄악이 세상에 가득함과 그의 마음으로 생각하는 모든 계획이 항상 악할 뿐임을 보시고 And Jehovah saw that the evil of man was multiplied on the earth, and that all the imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil every day. 6땅 위에 사람 지으셨음을 한탄하사 마음에 근심하시고 And it repented Jehovah that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7이르시되 내가 창조한 사람을 내가 지면에서 쓸어버리되 사람으로부터 가축과 기는 것과 공중의 새까지 그리하리니 이는 내가 그것들을 지었음을 한탄함이니라 하시니라 And Jehovah said, I will destroy man whom I have created, from upon the faces of the ground, both man and beast, and creeping thing, and fowl of the heavens; for it repenteth me that I have made him. 8그러나 노아는 여호와께 은혜를 입었더라 And Noah found grace in the eyes of Jehovah.

They who are in mutual love in heaven are continually advancing to the springtime of their youth, and to a more and more gladsome and happy spring the more thousands of years they live, and this with continual increase to eternity, according to the advance and degree of mutual love, charity, and faith. Those of the female sex who have died in old age and enfeebled with years, and who have lived in faith in the Lord, in charity toward the neighbor, and in happy conjugial love with their husbands, after a succession of years come more and more into the bloom of youth and early womanhood, and into a beauty that surpasses all idea of beauty such as is ever perceptible to the natural sight; for it is goodness and charity forming and presenting their own likeness, and causing the delight and beauty of charity to shine forth from every least feature of the countenance, so that they are the very forms of charity: some have beheld them and been amazed. The form of charity, as is seen to the life in the other world, is such that it is charity itself that portrays and is portrayed, and this in such a manner that the whole angel, and especially the face, is as it were charity, the charity both plainly appearing to the view and being perceived by the mind. When this form is beheld, it is unutterable beauty that affects with charity the very inmost life of the beholder’s mind. Through the beauty of this form the truths of faith are presented to view in an image, and are even perceived from it. Such forms, or such beauties, do those become in the other life who have lived in faith in the Lord, that is, in the faith of charity. All the angels are such forms, with countless variety, and of such is heaven.

천국 모든 기쁨과 행복은 오직 주님으로 말미암는다는 사실을 주님은 저로 하여금 많은 걸 경험하게 하심으로써 보여주셨습니다. 다음은 이와 관련된 내용입니다. 저는 램프가 달린 램프 스탠드와 꽃처럼 생긴 가장 값진 조명기구들을 주님에 대한 경외함으로 온 힘을 다해 부지런히 빚고 있는 천사 같은 영들을 보았습니다. 두어 시간 동안 저는 그들이 얼마나 엄청난 수고로 그 모든 것들로 하여금 아름답고, 또 주님을 잘 표현하게 하려고 애를 쓰는지를 허락을 받아 참관할 수 있었습니다. 그들은 이것을 자기들 힘으로 하고 있다 여기고 있었습니다. 그러나 저에게 어떤 지각이 주어졌는데, 그것은 그들의 힘으로는 그들은 그것을 고안조차 할 수 없었을 것이라는 사실이었습니다. 마침내 여러 시간이 흐른 후, 그들은 자기들이 이렇게 정말 아름답고, 또 주님을 잘 표현하는 가지가 달린 촛대를 주님을 경외함 가운데 만들었다고 말하며, 그것으로 그들은 진심으로 즐거워하였습니다. 그러나 저는 그들에게 그들 자신의 힘으로는 아무것도 만드는 것은 고사하고 고안조차 할 수 없으며, 오직 그들을 사랑하시는 주님으로 한 것이라고 알려주었습니다. 처음에 그들은 이 사실을 거의 믿으려 하지 않았습니다. 그러나 그들의 눈이 밝아져 천사 같은 영들이 되자 그들은 과연 그렇다며 고백했습니다. 주님을 표상하는 다른 모든 것들도 마찬가지입니다. 일반적이든 구체적이든 모든 어펙션과 생각도 그렇고, 천국 모든 기쁨과 더할 나위 없는 행복 역시 그렇습니다. 그것들 중 가장 작은 것조차 오직 주님으로만 말미암는 것입니다. That all the joy and happiness in heaven are from the Lord alone, has been shown me by many experiences, of which the following may be related. I saw that with the utmost diligence some angelic spirits were fashioning a lampstand with its lamps and flowers of the richest ornamentation in honor of the Lord. For an hour or two I was permitted to witness with what great pains they labored to make everything about it beautiful and representative, they supposing that they were doing it of themselves. But to me it was given to perceive that of themselves they could devise nothing at all. At last after some hours they said that they had formed a very beautiful representative candelabrum in honor of the Lord, whereat they rejoiced from their very hearts. But I told them that of themselves they had devised and formed nothing at all, but the Lord alone for them. At first they would scarcely believe this, but being angelic spirits they were enlightened, and confessed that it was so. So it is with all other representative things, and with everything of affection and thought in both general and particular, and also with heavenly joys and felicities—the very smallest bit of them is from the Lord alone.
