4뱀이 여자에게 이르되 너희가 결코 죽지 아니하리라 5너희가 그것을 먹는 날에는 너희 눈이 밝아져 하나님과 같이 되어 선악을 알 줄 하나님이 아심이니라 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die. For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil (창3:4-5)

204. ‘너희가 그것을 먹는 날에는 너희 눈이 밝아져’가 상징하는 것은, 만일 그들이 신앙에 관한 것들을 조사하되 감각과 지식에 속한 것, 곧, 자기들 인간의 것으로 하면, 그들은 분명 그 신앙의 일들을 마치 무슨 오류가 있는 것처럼 볼 것이라는 사실입니다. Their “eyes being opened by eating of the fruit of the tree” signifies that if they were to examine the things of faith from what is of sense and knowledge [ex sensuali et scientifico], that is, from themselves, they would plainly see those things as if erroneous.

‘하나님과 같이 되어 선악을 알 줄’은, 만일 그들이 자기 것으로 그런 짓을 하면, 그들은 하나님처럼 되어 자기가 자기를 가이드하게 될 것을 가리킵니다. And that they would be “as God, knowing good and evil,” denotes that if they did so from themselves, they would be as God, and could guide themselves.

205. 모든 구절에는 교회의 어떤 특별한 상태나 상태의 변화가 들어 있습니다. Every verse contains a particular state, or change of state, in the church:

마침내 자아-사랑이 우위를 점하게 되자, 그들은 자기들이 자기들을 리드할 수 있다, 자기들이 주님처럼 될 수 있다 착각하기 시작한 것입니다. at length, in consequence of the ascendancy of self-love, they began to think that they could lead themselves, and thus be like the Lord;

자아 사랑은 주님의 인도하심에 순종하는 것을 꺼리며, 자기 스스로 하기를 더 좋아하고, 믿음의 영역을 감각과 기억-지식의 것들을 가지고 스스로 컨설팅을 하는 등, 이런 것이 바로 자아 사랑의 정체이기 때문입니다. for such is the nature of the love of self that it is unwilling to submit to the Lord’s leading, and prefers to be self-guided, and being self-guided to consult the things of sense and of memory-knowledge as to what is to be believed.
