9절, 하나님이 이르시되 천하의 물이 한 곳으로 모이고 뭍이 드러나라 하시니 그대로 되니라 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together in one place, and let the dry [land] appear; and it was so.

두 가지, 곧 속 사람과 겉 사람이라는 게 존재한다는 사실, 그리고 진리와 선이 주님으로부터 속 사람으로 흘러들어온 다음 이번엔 속 사람으로부터, 즉 속 사람을 통해서 겉 사람으로 흐른다는 사실, 비록 겉보기에는 그리 보이지 않을지라도 말입니다. 이런 사실들이 알려지면, 저들 진리와 선, 곧 거듭나고 있는 사람 안에 있는 진리와 선에 관한 지식이 그의 기억 안에 쌓이며, 그 지식들(knowledges [scientifica])사이로 분류됩니다. 겉 사람의 기억 속으로 밀어 넣어지는 것은 그게 무엇이든, 그게 자연적이든 영적이든, 아니면 천적이든 기억-지식(memory-knowledge)이라는 것으로 그곳에 머물며, 그 후 주님에 의해 나오게 되기 때문입니다. 이들 지식이 ‘한 곳으로 모인 물’(the waters gathered together into one place)이며, 부르기를 ‘바다’(seas)라고 합니다. 그러나 겉 사람 자체는 ‘뭍’(the dry [land])이라 하며, 지금은 이어지는 10절에서처럼 ‘땅’(earth)이라고 합니다. When it is known that there is both an internal and an external man, and that truths and goods flow in from, or through, the internal man to the external, from the Lord, although it does not so appear, then those truths and goods, or the knowledges of the true and the good in the regenerating man, are stored up in his memory, and are classed among its knowledges [scientifica]; for whatsoever is insinuated into the memory of the external man, whether it be natural, or spiritual, or celestial, abides there as memory-knowledge, and is brought forth thence by the Lord. These knowledges are the “waters gathered together into one place,” and are called “seas,” but the external man himself is called the “dry [land],” and presently “earth,” as in what follows.
