AC.33, 창1:14-17, '하나님이 이르시되 하늘의 궁창에 광명체들이'(AC.30-37)

※ 약간의 사랑이라도 없이는 생명이라는 것은 불가능하며, 사랑에서 흘러나오지 않고서는 기쁨이라는 것도 불가능하다는 사실, 이 사실을 아주 잘 아는 것, 이것은 모든 사람이 가지고 있는 기본적인 능력이지요. 사랑, 생명, 기쁨이란 이런 것, 곧 이렇게 서로 본질적으로 연결된 것입니다.

 

14-17절, 14하나님이 이르시되 하늘의 궁창에 광명체들이 있어 낮과 밤을 나뉘게 하고 그것들로 징조와 계절과 날과 해를 이루게 하라 And God said, Let there be luminaries in the expanse of the heavens, to distinguish between the day and the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and for years. 15또 광명체들이 하늘의 궁창에 있어 땅을 비추라 하시니 그대로 되니라 And let them be for luminaries in the expanse of the heavens, to give light upon the earth; and it was so. 16하나님이 두 큰 광명체를 만드사 큰 광명체로 낮을 주관하게 하시고 작은 광명체로 밤을 주관하게 하시며 또 별들을 만드시고 And God made two great luminaries, the greater luminary to rule by day, and the lesser luminary to rule by night; and the stars. 17하나님이 그것들을 하늘의 궁창에 두어 땅을 비추게 하시며 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens, to give light upon the earth;

약간의 사랑이라도 없이는 생명이라는 것은 불가능하며, 사랑에서 흘러나오지 않고서는 기쁨이라는 것도 불가능하다는 사실, 이 사실을 아주 잘 아는 것, 이것은 모든 사람이 가지고 있는 기본적인 능력이지요. 사랑, 생명, 기쁨이란 이런 것, 곧 이렇게 서로 본질적으로 연결된 것입니다. 만일 어떤 사람한테서 사랑을, 같은 말이지만 무언가 그가 간절히 원하는 걸 제거한다면, 그 순간 그는 그 즉시 생각이라는 걸 할 수 없게 되며, 놀랍게도 무슨 죽은 사람처럼 되고 맙니다. 생명에 대해 지금까지 제가 영계, 특히 천국에서 목격했던 장면들처럼 말입니다. 자기 사랑(the loves of self)과 세상 사랑(the loves of the world) 안에도 생명이나 기쁨하고 뭔가 닮은 게 있습니다만, 그러나 이 둘은 참된 사랑하고는 정반대이기 때문에, 사랑이라기보다는 오히려 미움입니다. 왜냐하면, 사람이 자기 자신과 세상을 사랑하면 할수록 그는 그에 비례해서 이웃을, 그리고 그 결과 주님을 미워하기 때문이지요. 참고로, 사람이 무엇보다도 주님을 사랑하는 주님 사랑과, 그리고 이웃을 제 몸처럼 사랑하는 이웃 사랑은 바로 이 참된 사랑에서 시작합니다, 이런 까닭에, 참된 사랑은 주님을 향한 사랑이요, 참된 생명은 주님으로부터 오는 사랑의 생명이고, 참된 기쁨은 그 생명에서 오는 기쁨입니다. 참된 사랑은 단 하나만 있을 수 있으며, 참된 생명 역시 그런데요, 이 생명에서 참된 기쁨과 더할 나위 없는 참된 행복이 흘러나오지요. 천국에 있는 천사들에게 속한 것들이 바로 이런 것들입니다. It is in everyone’s power very well to know that no life is possible without some love, and that no joy is possible except that which flows from love. Such however as is the love, such is the life, and such the joy: if you were to remove loves, or what is the same thing, desires—for these are of love—thought would instantly cease, and you would become like a dead person, as has been shown me to the life. The loves of self and of the world have in them some resemblance to life and to joy, but as they are altogether contrary to true love, which consists in a man’s loving the Lord above all things, and his neighbor as himself, it must be evident that they are not loves, but hatreds, for in proportion as anyone loves himself and the world, in the same proportion he hates his neighbor, and thereby the Lord. Wherefore true love is love to the Lord, and true life is the life of love from him, and true joy is the joy of that life. There can be but one true love, and therefore but one true life, whence flow true joys and true felicities, such as are those of the angels in the heavens.
