AC.35, 창1:14-17, '하나님이 이르시되 하늘의 궁창에 광명체들이'(AC.30-37)

※ 사람에게는 두 가지 타고나는 능력이 있는데, 바로 의지(意志, will), 곧 의도하는 능력과 이해(理解, understanding), 곧 이해하는 능력입니다.

 

14-17절, 14하나님이 이르시되 하늘의 궁창에 광명체들이 있어 낮과 밤을 나뉘게 하고 그것들로 징조와 계절과 날과 해를 이루게 하라 And God said, Let there be luminaries in the expanse of the heavens, to distinguish between the day and the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and for years. 15또 광명체들이 하늘의 궁창에 있어 땅을 비추라 하시니 그대로 되니라 And let them be for luminaries in the expanse of the heavens, to give light upon the earth; and it was so. 16하나님이 두 큰 광명체를 만드사 큰 광명체로 낮을 주관하게 하시고 작은 광명체로 밤을 주관하게 하시며 또 별들을 만드시고 And God made two great luminaries, the greater luminary to rule by day, and the lesser luminary to rule by night; and the stars. 17하나님이 그것들을 하늘의 궁창에 두어 땅을 비추게 하시며 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens, to give light upon the earth;

사람에게는 두 가지 타고나는 능력이 있는데, 바로 의지(意志, will), 곧 의도하는 능력과 이해(理解, understanding), 곧 이해하는 능력입니다. 이해가 의지의 통치를 받을 때, 이 둘은 한마음이 되며, 그것은 곧 하나의 생명(삶)을 이룹니다. 그때 사람은 마음먹고 행하는(wills and does) 것을 또한 생각하고 의도하기(thinks and intends) 때문입니다. 그러나 이해가 의지와 불일치할 때, (말로는 신앙을 가졌다 하면서도 실제로는 신앙과 모순되게 사는 경우처럼) 이때는 한마음이 둘로 나뉘는데요, 하나는 천국을 향하고자 하고, 다른 하나는 지옥을 향하고자 합니다. 의지는 모든 행위에 있어 행위자(doer)이기 때문에, 이 사람은 완전히 지옥으로 곤두박질칠 수밖에 없게 됩니다. 만일 주님이 그를 불쌍히 여기지 않으시면 말입니다. Man has two faculties: will and understanding. When the understanding is governed by the will they together constitute one mind, and thus one life, for then what the man wills and does he also thinks and intends. But when the understanding is at variance with the will (as with those who say they have faith, and yet live in contradiction to faith), then the one mind is divided into two, one of which desires to exalt itself into heaven, while the other tends toward hell; and since the will is the doer in every act, the whole man would plunge headlong into hell if it were not that the Lord has mercy on him.
