13절, 둘째 강의 이름은 기혼이라 구스 온 땅을 둘렀고 And the name of the second river is Gihon; the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Cush.

‘기혼’(Gihon)이라 하는 ‘둘째 강’은 선한 것과 참된 것, 즉 사랑과 신앙에 속한 모든 것에 관한 지식(the knowledge [cognitio] of all things that belong to the good and the true)을 상징합니다. ‘구스 땅’(the land of Cush)은 마음이나 역량(the mind or faculty)을 상징합니다. 마음은 의지와 이해로 되어 있는데요, 첫째 강에 관한 내용이 의지와 관련된 것이었다면, 이 둘째 강은 이해와 관련된, 즉 선과 진리의 지식들에 대한 이해(the understanding to which belong the knowledges [cognitiones] of good and of truth)와 관련된 것입니다. The “second river,” which is called “Gihon,” signifies the knowledge [cognitio] of all things that belong to the good and the true, or to love and faith, and the “land of Cush” signifies the mind or faculty. The mind is constituted of the will and the understanding; and what is said of the first river has reference to the will, and what of this one to the understanding to which belong the knowledges [cognitiones] of good and of truth.
