14절, 여호와 하나님이 뱀에게 이르시되 네가 이렇게 하였으니 네가 모든 가축과 들의 모든 짐승보다 더욱 저주를 받아 배로 다니고 살아 있는 동안 흙을 먹을지니라 And Jehovah God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above every beast, and above every wild animal of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.

‘네가 모든 가축과 들의 모든 짐승보다 더욱 저주를 받아’(he said to the serpent, thou art cursed above every beast, and above every wild animal of the field)는 감각 파트가 스스로를 천적(天的, heavenly)인 것으로부터 눈을 돌려 몸을 향하게 하더니, 결국 저주를 자초하였음을 의미한다는 건데요, 이는 말씀의 속뜻으로부터 더욱 명료해질 수 있습니다. 여호와 하나님, 곧 주님은 결코 누구를 저주하시지 않습니다. 그는 절대로 누구에게 화를 내시거나, 절대로 누구를 시험하시거나, 절대로 누구를 벌하시거나, 절대로 절대로 누구를 저주하시거나 하지 않습니다. 이 모든 건 지옥의 무리들로 말미암는 것입니다. 이런 것들은 결코 무슨 자비나 평화, 선한 의도라는 근원에서 나올 수가 없기 때문입니다. 이곳을 비롯, 말씀의 여러 다른 데들에서, 여호와 하나님이 얼굴을 돌리실 뿐 아니라, 화를 내시고, 벌하시고, 시험하시며, 뿐만 아니라 죽이시고, 심지어 저주하신다고 하는 이유는, 사람들로 하여금 이 온 우주 안 모든 것을 다스리시고 정하시는, 심지어 악 자체는 물론, 형벌, 시험들까지도 모두 다 다스리시는 분이 바로 주님이심을 믿을 수 있게 하기 위해, 그리고 사람들이 이런 가장 보편적인 걸 받아들일 때, 주님이 어떻게 형벌과 시험에 속한 악을 돌이켜 선이 되게 하시는지, 그리고 그걸 통해 이 모든 걸 다스리시고 정하시는지를 나중에 배울 수 있게 하기 위해서입니다. 말씀을 가르칠 때와 배울 때, 이런 가장 보편적인 진리들이 반드시 가장 먼저 나와야 하며, 이런 이유로, 문자의 뜻, 말씀의 겉뜻이 이런 것들, 이런 표현들로 가득한 것입니다. That “he said to the serpent, thou art cursed above every beast, and above every wild animal of the field” signifies that the sensuous part averted itself from that which is heavenly, turned itself to that which is of the body, and thus cursed itself, may be clearly shown from the internal sense of the Word. Jehovah God or the Lord never curses anyone. He is never angry with anyone, never leads anyone into temptation, never punishes anyone, and still less does he curse anyone. All this is done by the infernal crew, for such things can never proceed from the fountain of mercy, peace, and goodness. The reason of its being said, both here and in other parts of the Word, that Jehovah God not only turns away his face, is angry, punishes, and tempts, but also kills and even curses, is that men may believe that the Lord governs and disposes all and every thing in the universe, even evil itself, punishments, and temptations; and when they have received this most general idea, may afterwards learn how he governs and disposes all things by turning the evil of punishment and of temptation into good. In teaching and learning the Word, the most general truths must come first; and therefore the literal sense is full of such things.
