※ 태고교회와 그 후속 교회들 전반에 걸쳐 그중 퍼셉션과 관련된 것들로부터 교리들을 추출, 뼈대를 세우며 조직하던 사람들이 그때 있었습니다. 이 사람들이 이런 일을 한 이유는, 이걸 기준으로 무엇이 선이요, 진리인지를 알게 하려는 것이었지요. 이 사람들이 바로 ‘에녹’입니다.

22절, 므두셀라를 낳은 후 삼백 년을 하나님과 동행하며 자녀들을 낳았으며 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

태고교회와 그 후속 교회들 전반에 걸쳐 그중 퍼셉션과 관련된 것들로부터 교리들을 추출, 뼈대를 세우며 조직하던 사람들이 그때 있었습니다. 이 사람들이 이런 일을 한 이유는, 이걸 기준으로 무엇이 선이요, 진리인지를 알게 하려는 것이었지요. 이 사람들이 바로 ‘에녹’입니다. ‘그리고 에녹은 하나님과 동행하였다’라는 표현이 상징하는 바가 바로 이것이며, 그래서 그들은 그걸 가리켜 교리라 하였는데, 이것은 ‘에녹’이라는 이름이 상징하는 바와 비슷합니다. 이 이름의 뜻이 ‘가르치다’이기 때문입니다. ‘동행하다’라는 표현 역시 같은 걸 상징하는데요, 그를 일컬어 ‘하나님과 동행하였다’라 하지 ‘여호와와 동행하였다’라고는 하지 않는 걸 보면 알 수 있습니다. ‘하나님과 동행하는 것’은 신앙의 교리를 따라 가르치며 사는 것이지만, ‘여호와와 동행하는 것’은 사랑의 삶을 사는 것이기 때문입니다. ‘행(行)하다, 걷다, 살다’라는 표현은 살아가는 걸 상징하는 일상적인 말투입니다. 예를 들면, ‘법대로 살다’, ‘규범 가운데 살다’, ‘진실하게 살다’처럼 말입니다. ‘행하는 것’은 어떤 길이나 삶, 방식에 대한 적절한 레퍼런스를 갖는 것인데, 이 레퍼런스는 진리, 결과적으로는 신앙이나 신앙의 교리와 관련됩니다. 말씀에서 ‘행함’이 상징하는 바는 이어지는 구절들을 보면 어느 정도 알 수 있습니다. There were some at that time who framed doctrines from the things that had been matters of perception in the most ancient and succeeding churches, in order that such doctrine might serve as a rule whereby to know what was good and true: such persons were called “Enoch.” This is what is signified by the words, “and Enoch walked with God”; and so did they call that doctrine; which is likewise signified by the name “Enoch,” which means to “instruct.” The same is evident also from the signification of the expression to “walk,” and from the fact that he is said to have “walked with God,” not “with Jehovah”; to “walk with God” is to teach and live according to the doctrine of faith, but to “walk with Jehovah” is to live the life of love. To “walk” is a customary form of speaking that signifies to live, as to “walk in the law,” to “walk in the statutes,” to “walk in the truth.” To “walk” has reference properly to a way, which has relation to truth, consequently to faith, or the doctrine of faith. What is signified in the Word by “walking,” may in some measure appear from the following passages.

[2] 미가입니다. In Micah:

사람아 주께서 선한 것이 무엇임을 네게 보이셨나니 여호와께서 네게 구하시는 것은 오직 정의를 행하며 인자를 사랑하며 겸손하게 네 하나님과 함께 행하는 것이 아니냐 (미6:8) He hath showed thee, O man, what is good, and what doth Jehovah require of thee, but to do judgment and the love of mercy, and to humble thyself by walking with thy God? (Micah 6:8)

여기 ‘하나님과 함께 행하는 것’이 상징하는 바는 여기서 가리키는 것들을 따라 그대로 사는 것입니다. 하지만 여기 ‘하나님과 함께’(with God)라는 표현에 대해서, 에녹에 대한 다른 성경(히브리 성경)에서는 ‘하나님과 함께로부터’(from with God)를 상징하고 있는데, 이 표현은 좀 애매합니다. where to “walk with God” signifies to live according to the things here indicated; here, however, it is said “with God,” while of Enoch another word is used which signifies also “from with God,” so that the expression is ambiguous.

시편입니다. In David:

주께서 나로 하나님 앞, 생명의 빛에 다니게 하시려고 실족하지 아니하게 하지 아니하셨나이까 (시56:13) Thou hast delivered my feet from impulsion, that I may walk before God in the light of the living, (Ps. 56:13)

여기 ‘하나님 앞에서 다니는 것’은 신앙의 진리, 곧 ‘생명의 빛’ 가운데 다니는 것입니다. where to “walk before God” is to walk in the truth of faith, which is the “light of the living.”

이사야에서도 같습니다. In like manner in Isaiah:

흑암에 행하던 백성이 큰 빛을 보고 (사9:2) The people that walk in darkness see a great light. (Isa. 9:1)

그래서 주께서 모세를 통해 말씀하시기를 So the Lord says by Moses:

나는 너희 중에 행하여 너희의 하나님이 되고 너희는 내 백성이 될 것이니라 (레26:12) I will walk in the midst, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people, (Lev. 26:12)

율법의 가르침을 따라 살아야 할 것을 상징합니다. signifying that they should live according to the doctrine of the law.

[3] 예레미야입니다. In Jeremiah:

그들이 사랑하며 섬기며 뒤따르며 구하며 경배하던 해와 달과 하늘의 뭇 별 아래에서 펼쳐지게 하리니 (렘8:2) They shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and to the armies of the heavens, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, (Jer. 8:2)

여기 보면, 사랑에 속한 것들과 신앙에 속한 것들 사이 뚜렷한 차이를 두는데요, 전자는 ‘사랑하며’와 ‘섬기며’로, 후자는 ‘뒤따르며’와 ‘구하며’로 각각 표현하고 있습니다. 모든 예언서들을 보면, 모든 표현들을 아주 정교하게 사용하고 있습니다. 어떤 용어가 다른 것의 자리에 대신 사용되는 일조차 절대 없습니다. 말씀에서 ‘여호와와 함께 걷다’나 ‘여호와 앞에’라는 표현은 사랑의 삶을 사는 것을 의미합니다. where a manifest distinction is made between the things of love, and those of faith; the things of love being expressed by “loving” and “serving”; and those of faith by “walking” and “seeking.” In all the prophetical writings every expression is used with accuracy, nor is one term ever used in the place of another. But to “walk with Jehovah,” or “before Jehovah,” signifies, in the Word, to live the life of love.

‘하나님과 동행’은 신앙에 관한 교리를 상징합니다. 그가 ‘자녀들을 낳았다’는 것은 선과 진리에 관한 교리적인 것들을 상징합니다. To “walk with God” signifies doctrine concerning faith. That he “begat sons and daughters” signifies doctrinal matters concerning truths and goods.

※ ‘에녹’이라는 교회의 퀄러티

21절, 에녹은 육십오 세에 므두셀라를 낳았고 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah.

전에 말씀드린 대로, ‘에녹’은 일곱 번째 교회를, ‘므두셀라’는 여덟 번째 교회를 상징합니다. By “Enoch,” as before said, is signified a seventh church; and by “Methuselah” an eighth.
