※ ‘여호와께서 이르시되 나의 영이 영원히 사람과 함께 하지 아니하리니’(Jehovah’s saying my spirit shall not forever reprove man)라는 표현이 사람들이 더 이상 그렇게 인도함을 받지 않을 것을 의미한다는 것은 앞서 다루어 온 내용들과 이어지는 내용들을 보면 분명한데요,

3절, 여호와께서 이르시되 나의 영이 영원히 사람과 함께 하지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 육신이 됨이라 그러나 그들의 날은 백이십 년이 되리라 하시니라 And Jehovah said, My spirit shall not reprove man forever, for that he is flesh; and his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.

‘여호와께서 이르시되 나의 영이 영원히 사람과 함께 하지 아니하리니’(Jehovah’s saying my spirit shall not forever reprove man)라는 표현이 사람들이 더 이상 그렇게 인도함을 받지 않을 것을 의미한다는 것은 앞서 벌어진 상황들(what has gone before)과 이어지고 있는 상황들(what follows)을 보면 분명한데요, That by Jehovah’s saying my spirit shall not forever reprove man is signified that man would not be so led any longer, is evident from what has gone before and from what follows;

※ 여기 ‘그렇게’라는 것은 태고교회의 특징인 퍼셉션으로 인도받는 걸 말합니다. 태고교회가 끝나고 새롭게 일어날 교회는 퍼셉션이 아닌 새로운 것, 곧 ‘양심’으로 주님의 인도를 받게 됩니다.

앞서 벌어진 상황들로부터는 사람들이 그렇게, 즉 신앙에 속한 교리적인 것들이나 진리들을 갈망 속에 잠기게 함으로써, from what has gone before in that men had become such, through the immersion of the doctrinal things or truths of faith in yearnings,

※ 여기 ‘갈망’(渴望)으로 번역한 yearnings 말인데요, 기본적으로 참된 신앙인이라면, 그리고 참된 영적, 천적 인간이라면, 신앙 관련, 교리적인 것들과 진리에 대해 자신의 무슨 yearnings이 있나요? 어린아이처럼 주님에 관한 정돈된 진리들에 대해 기뻐하고 즐거워하며 따르는 것 외에 무슨 자기 의견이 있으며, 자신의 yearnings이 있나요? 종말을 목전에 둔 이 사람들의 상태가 정말 얼마나 돌이킬 수 없는 끔찍한 상태인지가 좀 느껴지며, 그래서 사실은 ‘갈망’이라는 무척 점잖은 번역이 아닌, 뭔가 생생한, 그리고 처절한 새 용어가 있었으면 좋겠는데요, 우선은 ‘더러운 갈망’, ‘타락한 욕망’ 정도로 표현했으면 합니다.

※ 신앙과 관련된 것들을 자신들의 yearnings에 잠기게 한다는 건, 주님의 뜻이 아닌, 철저히 자신의 뜻, 자신의 욕망을 실현하기 위한 도구로 신앙과 관련된 것들을 추구하는 걸 말합니다. 이런 건 주님 사랑 아닌, 정말이지 자기 사랑의 끝판왕 같은 것이며, 그래서 과연 이래서 태고교회가 종말을 맞이했구나 싶습니다.

그들은 더 이상 책망 받을 수 없는(they could no longer be reproved), 즉 악이 무엇인지를 알 수 없는, that they could no longer be reproved, that is, know what evil is;

※ 이 표현을 개역개정에서는 ‘영원히 사람과 함께 하지 아니하리니’로 번역했는데, 이는 곧 주님이 손을 떼셨다는 것입니다. 이미 이들의 상태가 이젠 선을 넘어버려서 더 이상의 책망, 관심은 오히려 이들을 괴롭히는 게 되기 때문입니다.

그런 사람들이 되어 버렸다는 점에서이고요, 진리와 선을 지각할 수 있는 모든 능력이 자신들의 설득(persuasions)을 통해 소멸되어 버린 나머지, 자신들의 설득에 동조했던 것들만 참이라고 믿었다는 점에서 그렇습니다. all capacity to perceive truth and good having been extinguished through their persuasions, so that they believed that only to be true that was in conformity with their persuasions;

그리고 이어지고 있는 상황들을 보자면, 홍수 후, 교회 구성원들이 달라졌는데요, 퍼셉션을 대신하여 양심이 그 자리를 계승한 것입니다. 이 양심을 통해 사람들이 주님의 책망을 받을 수 있게, 즉 계속해서 여호와의 함께하심 가운데 있게 된 것입니다. ‘여호와의 영의 책망’(Reproof by the spirit of Jehovah)은 그래서 일종의 내적 딕테이트, 퍼셉션, 혹은 양심을 상징하며, ‘여호와의 영’(the spirit of Jehovah)은 또한 이사야에서처럼, 참되고 선한 인플럭스(influx, 入流)를 상징합니다.  and in regard to what follows, that after the flood the man of the church became different, in that with him conscience succeeded in place of perception, through which he could be reproved. “Reproof by the spirit of Jehovah” therefore signifies an inward dictate, a perception, or a conscience; and the “spirit of Jehovah” signifies the influx of what is true and good; as also in Isaiah:

내가 영원히 다투지 아니하며 내가 끊임없이 노하지 아니할 것은 내가 지은 그의 영과 혼이 내 앞에서 피곤할까 함이라 (사57:16) I will not contend to eternity, neither will I be forever wroth, for the spirit would overwhelm before me, and the souls I have made. (Isa. 57:16)

Therefore let man beware of the profanation of the Word of the Lord, which contains the eternal truths wherein is life, although one who is in false principles does not believe that they are truths.

‘하나님의 아들들’(the sons of God)이 신앙에 속한 교리적인 것들(the doctrinal things of faith)을 상징한다는 것은, ‘아들들’(sons)의 상징을 보면 분명합니다. The truths of the church are doctrinal things, which regarded in themselves were truths because those here treated of had them by tradition from the most ancient people, and therefore they are called the “sons of God”; they are so called also relatively, because yearnings are called the “daughters of man.” The quality of the members of this church is here described, namely, that they immersed the truths of the church, which were holy, in their yearnings, and thereby defiled them; and in this way they confirmed the principles of which they were so strongly persuaded. How this occurred may be easily conceived by anyone, from observing what passes in himself and others: those who persuade themselves in regard to any subject, confirm themselves in such persuasion by everything which they imagine to be true, even by what they find contained in the Word of the Lord; for while they cling to principles which they have received, and have become persuaded of, they make everything favor and assent to them. And the more anyone is under the influence of self-love, the more firmly he holds them. Such was this race, concerning whom of the Lord’s Divine mercy hereafter, when we come to treat of their direful persuasions, which strange to say are such that they are never allowed to flow in by reasonings, but only from yearnings, for otherwise they would kill everything rational in the spirits present. Hence it appears what is signified by the “sons of God seeing the daughters of man, that they were good, and taking to themselves wives of all that they chose,” namely, that they conjoined the doctrinal things of faith with their yearnings, in fact with any yearnings.

※ 여기 결합이라는 표현이 나오는데요, 이는 신앙의 교리, 신학, 가르침을 자신의 갈망, 자신의 욕구, 욕망을 해소, 해결하는 방편으로 이용했다는 의미입니다. 신앙의 진리, 곧 주님의 말씀은 그 자체가 주님의 말씀이며, 주님이 하신 말씀이기 때문에 순전함으로 따라야 하는데, 이들은 그럴 마음은 전혀 없고, 대신 오로지 자신들의 갈망, 욕망을 위해서만 이용했다는 말입니다. 이것이 전형적인, 주님의 것에 사사로이 사람의 것을 섞는 신성모독입니다. 이것은 전형적인 자기 사랑의 모습이며, 결코 주님 사랑이 아닙니다.
