※ ‘칠십칠 배의 벌’의 속뜻, 아주 끔찍한 신성모독(a far greater sacrilege)이요, 신성불가침을 심각하게 범하는 것

24절, 가인을 위하여는 벌이 칠 배일진대 라멕을 위하여는 벌이 칠십칠 배이리로다 하였더라 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

가인을 위하여는 ‘벌이 칠 배’라는 것은, 이미 15절에서 보여드린 대로, ‘가인’의 분리된 신앙을 폭행하는 것은 신성모독, 신성불가침을 범함이었음을 의미합니다. (cf. 392-396) That Cain’s being “avenged sevenfold” signifies that it was sacrilege to do violence to that separated faith which is meant by “Cain,” has been already shown at verse 15.

※ ‘가인’ 신앙은 사랑에서 신앙을 분리하는 신앙입니다. 원래 태고교회 신앙은 사랑 하나였습니다. 사랑 따로, 신앙 따로 같은 건 생각조차 할 수 없었으나, 그 교회에서 주님을 사랑하지 않으면서도 신앙은 하려는 사람들이 서서히 일어난 것입니다.

‘칠십칠 배의 벌’은 아주 끔찍한 신성모독(a far greater sacrilege)이요, 신성불가침을 심각하게 범하는 것으로서, 그 결과는 지옥이라는 것이 ‘칠십칠’이 의미하는 바를 보면 분명합니다. ‘칠’이라는 숫자가 거룩하다는 것은 다음과 같은 사실에서 유래하는데요, ‘일곱째 날’은 천적 인간, 천적 교회, 천적 나라, 그리고 가장 높은 뜻으로 바로 주님 자신을 의미한다는 것입니다. 그래서 ‘칠’이라는 숫자는 말씀 가운데 나올 때마다 거룩한 것, 즉 가장 신성한 것을 의미하며, 이 거룩(holiness)과 신성(sanctity)이 어떤 것인지는 그때 다루어지고 있는 것들에 의해 서술되거나 따릅니다. 일곱 때들(ages)을 구성하는 숫자 ‘칠십’의 의미가 여기에서 오는데요, 말씀에서, 한 때는 십 년입니다. 가장 거룩하거나 신성한 어떤 것을 표현해야 했을 때, ‘칠십칠 배’라고 했습니다. 주님은 말씀하시기를, 사람은 그의 형제를 일곱 번뿐 아니라, 일흔 번씩 일곱 번이라도 용서하라 하셨는데, 이 말씀의 의미는, 그가 죄를 얼마나 짓든지 끝없이, 혹은 영원히 용서하라는 말씀입니다. 이것이 거룩입니다. 그리고 여기, 라멕의 말, ‘벌이 칠십칠 배이리로다’의 의미는 지옥인데, 그 이유는 가장 신성한 것을 더럽혔기 때문입니다. And that by a “seventy and sevenfold avengement” is signified a far greater sacrilege, the consequence of which is damnation, is evident from the signification of “seventy and sevenfold.” That the number “seven” is holy originates in the fact that the “seventh day” signifies the celestial man, the celestial church, the celestial kingdom, and, in the highest sense, the Lord himself. Hence the number “seven,” wherever it occurs in the Word, signifies what is holy, or most sacred; and this holiness and sanctity is predicated of, or according to, the things that are being treated of. From this comes the signification of the number “seventy,” which comprises seven ages; for an age, in the Word, is ten years. When anything most holy or sacred was to be expressed, it was said “seventy-sevenfold,” as when the Lord said that a man should forgive his brother not until seven times, but until seventy times seven (Matt. 18:22), by which is meant that they should forgive as many times as he sins, so that the forgiving should be without end, or should be eternal, which is holy. And here, that Lamech should “be avenged seventy and sevenfold” means damnation, because of the violation of that which is most sacred.
