AC.36, 창1:14-17, '하나님이 이르시되 하늘의 궁창에 광명체들이'(AC.30-37)

※ 신앙을 사랑으로부터 분리해 온 사람들은 사실은 신앙이 무엇인지조차 모르는 것입니다.

 

14-17절, 14하나님이 이르시되 하늘의 궁창에 광명체들이 있어 낮과 밤을 나뉘게 하고 그것들로 징조와 계절과 날과 해를 이루게 하라 And God said, Let there be luminaries in the expanse of the heavens, to distinguish between the day and the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and for years. 15또 광명체들이 하늘의 궁창에 있어 땅을 비추라 하시니 그대로 되니라 And let them be for luminaries in the expanse of the heavens, to give light upon the earth; and it was so. 16하나님이 두 큰 광명체를 만드사 큰 광명체로 낮을 주관하게 하시고 작은 광명체로 밤을 주관하게 하시며 또 별들을 만드시고 And God made two great luminaries, the greater luminary to rule by day, and the lesser luminary to rule by night; and the stars. 17하나님이 그것들을 하늘의 궁창에 두어 땅을 비추게 하시며 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens, to give light upon the earth;

신앙을 사랑으로부터 분리해 온 사람들은 사실은 신앙이 무엇인지조차 모르는 것입니다. 신앙을 생각할 때, 어떤 사람들은 그건 단지 생각일 뿐이라고, 또 어떤 사람들은 그건 주님을 직접 향하는(directed toward the Lord)거라고 합니다. 소수만이 그것은 신앙의 교리(the doctrine of faith)라고 하지요. They who have separated faith from love do not even know what faith is. When thinking of faith, some imagine it to be mere thought, some that it is thought directed toward the Lord, few that it is the doctrine of faith.

 

※ ‘주님을 직접 향한다’는 것은 예를 들면, 왕 앞에 나아가듯 주님을 직접 알현하는 것을 말합니다. 오늘날 기독교 거의 모든 신앙인이 대부분 다 이렇게 생각하지요. 그러나 다음과 같은 사실을 생각할 때, 천국에서는 근본적으로 좀 다른 것 같습니다.

 

※ 천국에서는 주님을 사랑한다는 것은 주님 개인을 사랑하는 것이 아니라 주님께로부터 오는 선을 사랑하는 것이다. 선을 사랑한다는 것은 선을 의도하고 사랑으로 선을 행하는 것이다. 마찬가지로, 이웃을 사랑한다는 것도 이웃을 개인적으로 사랑하는 것이 아니라 말씀에서 나오는 진리를 사랑하는 것이다. 진리를 사랑한다는 것은 진리를 추구하고 실천하는 것이다. In heaven loving the Lord does not mean loving him in respect to his person, but it means loving the good that is from him; and to love good is to will and do good from love; and to love the neighbor does not mean loving a companion in respect to his person, but loving the truth that is from the Word; and to love truth is to will and do it. (HH.15)

 

신앙이라는 것은 신앙의 교리를 구성하는 모든 것에 대한 일종의 지식과 인정(認定, acknowledgment) 및 뿐만 아니라, 특히 그 교리들이 가르치고 있는 모든 것에 대한 일종의 복종입니다. 신앙이 가르치는, 그리고 사람들이 반드시 따라야 하는 주된 포인트는 바로 주님 사랑(love to the Lord)과 이웃 사랑(love toward the neighbor)입니다. 만일 어떤 사람이 이 안에 있는 게 아니라면, 그는 신앙 안에 있는 게 아니기 때문인데요, 이것이 바로 주님이 마가복음에서 의심의 여지 없이 아주 명료하게 가르치신 것입니다. But faith is not only a knowledge and acknowledgment of all things that the doctrine of faith comprises, but especially is it an obedience to all things that the doctrine of faith teaches. The primary point that it teaches, and that which men should obey, is love to the Lord, and love toward the neighbor, for if a man is not in this, he is not in faith. This the Lord teaches so plainly as to leave no doubt concerning it, in Mark:

 

29예수께서 대답하시되 첫째는 이것이니 이스라엘아 들으라 주 곧 우리 하나님은 유일한 주시라 30네 마음을 다하고 목숨을 다하고 뜻을 다하고 힘을 다하여 주 너의 하나님을 사랑하라 하신 것이요 31둘째는 이것이니 네 이웃을 네 자신과 같이 사랑하라 하신 것이라 이보다 더 큰 계명이 없느니라 (막12:29-31) The foremost of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord; therefore thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the foremost commandment; and the second is like, namely this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself; there is none other commandment greater than these. (Mark 12:29–31)

 

마태복음에서 주님은 이 둘 중 첫째를 ‘크고 첫째 되는 계명’(first and great commandment)이라 하셨고, ‘이 두 계명이 온 율법과 선지자의 강령이니라’(on these commandments hang all the law and the prophets)(마22:37-41)고 하셨습니다. In Matthew, the Lord calls the former of these the “first and great commandment,” and says that “on these commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matt. 22:37–41)

 

37예수께서 이르시되 네 마음을 다하고 목숨을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 주 너의 하나님을 사랑하라 하셨으니 38이것이 크고 첫째 되는 계명이요 39둘째도 그와 같으니 네 이웃을 네 자신 같이 사랑하라 하셨으니 40이 두 계명이 온 율법과 선지자의 강령이니라 (마22:37-40)

 

‘율법과 선지자’(law and the prophets)는 신앙 관련, 범 우주적 교리와 말씀 전체를 말합니다. The “law and the prophets” are the universal doctrine of faith, and the whole Word.
