9절, 여호와 하나님이 그 땅에서 보기에 아름답고 먹기에 좋은 나무가 나게 하시니 동산 가운데에는 생명 나무와 선악을 알게 하는 나무도 있더라 And out of the ground made Jehovah God to grow every tree desirable to behold, and good for food; the tree of lives also, in the midst of the garden; and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

오늘날에는 퍼셉션(perception)이라는 게 무엇인지 알려져 있지 않습니다. 이것은 오직 주님으로부터만 오는 어떤 내적 감각(a certain internal sensation)인데요, 어떤 것의 참되고 선한 여부를 아는 것(whether a thing is true and good)입니다. 이는 태고교회에는 아주 잘 알려져 있던 것입니다. 천사들한테는 이 퍼셉션이 매우 완벽한데요, 그들은 이 퍼셉션으로 참되고 선한 것, 주님에게서 오는 것, 그리고 그들 자신에게서 오는 것, 그리고 또한 그들에게 다가오는 사람의 퀄리티(the quality of anyone)를 그의 단순한 접근과 그가 가진 생각 하나만으로도 알아차리고 또한 알았습니다. 영적 인간한테는 이 퍼셉션은 전혀 없고, 대신 양심(conscience)이라는 게 있습니다. 죽은 상태에 있는 인간은 이 양심조차 없지요. 굉장히 많은 사람이 양심이 무엇인지를 모르는데요, 그러니 하물며 퍼셉션은 말할 것도 없습니다. At this day it is unknown what perception is. It is a certain internal sensation, from the Lord alone, as to whether a thing is true and good; and it was very well known to the most ancient church. This perception is so perfect with the angels, that by it they are aware and have knowledge of what is true and good; of what is from the Lord, and what from themselves; and also of the quality of anyone who comes to them, merely from his approach, and from a single one of his ideas. The spiritual man has no perception, but has conscience. A dead man has not even conscience; and very many do not know what conscience is, and still less what perception is.
