14절, 셋째 강의 이름은 힛데겔이라 앗수르 동쪽으로 흘렀으며 넷째 강은 유브라데더라 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel; that is it which goeth eastward toward Assyria; and the fourth river is Euphrates.

‘애굽’이 그런 것처럼, ‘유브라데’ 또한 기억-지식들 및 이들 지식들의 근원이 되는 감각적인 것들(the sensuous things)을 상징합니다. 이것은 말씀의 미가 같은 선지서들을 보면 분명합니다. As by “Egypt,” so also by “Euphrates,” are signified memory-knowledges, and also the sensuous things from which these knowledges come. This is evident from the Word in the prophets, as in Micah:

 

10나의 대적이 이것을 보고 부끄러워하리니 그는 전에 내게 말하기를 네 하나님 여호와가 어디 있느냐 하던 자라 그가 거리의 진흙 같이 밟히리니 그것을 내가 보리로다 11네 성벽을 건축하는 날 곧 그날에는 지경이 넓혀질 것이라 12그날에는 앗수르에서 애굽 성읍들에까지, 애굽에서 강까지, 이 바다에서 저 바다까지, 이 산에서 저 산까지의 사람들이 네게로 돌아올 것이나 (미7:10-12) My she-enemy hath said, Where is Jehovah thy God? The day in which he shall build thy walls [macerias], that day shall the decree be far removed; that day also he shall come even to thee from Asshur, and to the cities of Egypt, and to the river [Euphrates]. (Micah 7:10–12)

 

그래서 선지서들이 주님의 오심(the coming of the Lord)과 관련, 그렇게 말한 것입니다. 주님은 사람을 거듭나게 하사(should regenerate) 그로 하여금 천적 인간과 같이 될 수 있게 하시는 분이십니다. 예레미야입니다. So did the prophets speak concerning the coming of the Lord who should regenerate man so that he might become like the celestial man. In Jeremiah:

 

네가 시홀의 물을 마시려고 애굽으로 가는 길에 있음은 어찌 됨이며 또 네가 그 강물을 마시려고 앗수르로 가는 길에 있음은 어찌 됨이냐 (렘2:18) What hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? Or what hast thou to do in the way of Asshur, to drink the waters of the river [Euphrates]? (Jer. 2:18)

 

여기서 ‘애굽’과 ‘유브라데’는 똑같이 기억 지식들을, ‘앗수르’는 거기서 나오는 합리적 사고능력(reasonings thence derived)을 상징합니다. 시편입니다. where “Egypt” and “Euphrates” likewise signify memory-knowledges, and “Asshur” reasonings thence derived. In David:

 

8주께서 한 포도나무를 애굽에서 가져다가 민족들을 쫓아내시고 그것을 심으셨나이다, 11그 가지가 바다까지 뻗고 넝쿨이 강까지 미쳤거늘 (시80:8, 11) Thou hast made a vine to go forth out of Egypt; Thou hast cast out the nations; Thou hast planted her; Thou hast sent out her shoots even to the sea, and her twigs to the river (Euphrates), (Ps. 80:8, 11)

 

여기서도 ‘강’(the river Euphrates)은 감각적인 것과 기억(what is sensuous and of the memory. [sensuali et scientifico])을 상징합니다. 유브라데는 앗수르를 향한 이스라엘 영토의 경계였는데, 이는 기억 지식이 영적 천적 인간의 지성과 지혜의 경계인 것과 같습니다. 아브라함에게 하신 말씀 또한 같은 걸 상징합니다. where also the “river Euphrates” signifies what is sensuous and of the memory. [sensuali et scientifico] For the Euphrates was the boundary of the dominions of Israel toward Assyria, as the knowledge of the memory is the boundary of the intelligence and wisdom of the spiritual and celestial man. The same is signified by what was said to Abraham:

 

그날에 여호와께서 아브람과 더불어 언약을 세워 이르시되 내가 이 땅을 애굽 강에서부터 그 큰 강 유브라데까지 네 자손에게 주노니 (창15:18) Unto thy seed will I give this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates. (Gen. 15:18)

 

이들 두 경계는 같은 걸 상징합니다. These two boundaries have a like signification.
