17절, 선악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매는 먹지 말라 네가 먹는 날에는 반드시 죽으리라 하시니라 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof, dying thou shalt die.

감각과 기억에 속한 걸 가지고 신앙의 신비를 조사해 보고 싶어 하는 것, 바로 이것이 다음 장에서 다룰, 태고교회 후손들의 타락, 몰락의 원인이었을 뿐만 아니라 지금도 모든 교회가 그렇게 되는 원인이기도 합니다. 그렇게 했다가는 삶 가운데 모든 거짓들과 악들이 시작되기 때문입니다. A desire to investigate the mysteries of faith by means of the things of sense and of the memory was not only the cause of the fall of the posterity of the most ancient church, as treated of in the following chapter, but it is also the cause of the fall of every church; for hence come not only falsities, but also evils of life.
