※ 저세상에 들어오는 거의 모든 사람이 천국 행복과 지복(至福, bliss)의 본질에 대하여 무지합니다. 내적 기쁨의 본질과 퀄러티에 대해 모르기 때문이지요. 그들은 그저 육체와 세상의 기쁨과 즐거움을 가지고 좀 미루어 짐작할 뿐입니다. 그들은 자기들이 모르는 것에 대해서는 그건 아무 것도 아닌 걸로 여깁니다. 그러나 실상은, 육체적이고 세속적인 즐거움이야말로 아무 것도 아닌, 아주 더러운 것입니다.

저세상에 들어오는 거의 모든 사람이 천국 행복과 지복(至福, bliss)의 본질에 대하여 무지합니다. 내적 기쁨의 본질과 퀄러티에 대해 모르기 때문이지요. 그들은 그저 육체와 세상의 기쁨과 즐거움을 가지고 좀 미루어 짐작할 뿐입니다. 그들은 자기들이 모르는 것에 대해서는 그건 아무 것도 아닌 걸로 여깁니다. 그러나 실상은, 육체적이고 세속적인 즐거움이야말로 아무 것도 아닌, 아주 더러운 것입니다. 성품은 좋으나 천국에 대해서는 무지한 사람들로 하여금 천국의 기쁨이라는 것이 무엇인지 배우며 알 수 있도록, 그들을 모든 상상을 뛰어넘는 파라다이스들의 첫 번째 장소로 데려갑니다. (이곳에 관해서는 주님의 신적 자비, 곧 허락하심으로 나중에 밝히겠습니다. cf. 1622) 그곳에 도착하면 그들은 자기들은 지금 천국의 파라다이스에 도착했다 생각합니다. 그러나 그들은 이것은 천국의 참된 기쁨이 아니라는 것과, 다음 순서로, 허락하심을 받아 그들의 가장 깊은 내면에까지 지각되는 기쁨의 내적 상태들을 맛보게 됩니다. 그들은 평화의 상태, 심지어 가장 내적인 데까지 옮겨졌고, 거기서 그들은 고백하기를, 지금 이 상태, 이 기쁨은 그 어떤 말로도 전혀 표현할 수 없고, 그 어떤 것으로도 전혀 상상할 수 없는 것이라고 하였습니다. 최종적으로, 그들은 이노센스 상태로 인도되었고, 또한 그들의 가장 내적 느낌, 곧 가장 깊은 레벨의 감각으로도 인도되었습니다. 이렇게 그들은 허락하심을 받아 참된 영적, 천적 선의 본질에 대하여 배웠습니다. Almost all who come into the other life are ignorant of the nature of heavenly happiness and bliss, because they know not the nature and quality of inward joy. They form a conception of it merely from the delights and joys of the body and the world. What they are ignorant of they suppose to be nothing, the truth being that bodily and worldly joys are relatively non-existent and foul. In order therefore that those who are well disposed may learn and may know what heavenly joy is, they are taken in the first place to paradises that surpass every conception of the imagination (concerning which, of the Lord’s Divine mercy hereafter), and they suppose that they have arrived in the paradise of heaven; but they are taught that this is not true heavenly happiness, and are therefore permitted to experience interior states of joy which are perceptible to their inmost being. They are then transported into a state of peace, even to their inmost being, and they confess that nothing of it is at all expressible or conceivable. And finally they are introduced into a state of innocence, also to their inmost feeling. In this way are they permitted to learn the nature of true spiritual and celestial good.
