※ 천국에 대해 말한 것은 그대로 교회에 적용된다. 교회는 땅 위의 천국이기 때문이다. 수많은 교회가 있지만, 그 안에서 사랑과 신앙이 주도하는 한, 모두 교회라 할 수 있고, 사실 교회인 것이다. 여기서도 주님은 다양성으로 통일체를, 즉 많은 교회로 하나의 교회를 이루신다.

각 공동체는 보다 작은 형태의 천국이고, 

각 천사는 가장 작은 형태의 천국이다

Each Society Is a Heaven in a Smaller Form,

천국에 대해 말한 것은 그대로 교회에 적용된다. 교회는 땅 위의 천국이기 때문이다. 수많은 교회가 있지만, 그 안에서 사랑과 신앙이 주도하는 한, 모두 교회라 할 수 있고, 사실 교회인 것이다. 여기서도 주님은 다양성으로 통일체를, 즉 많은 교회로 하나의 교회를 이루신다.주54 또한 전체적으로 교회에 대하여 말한 것은, 세부적으로 교회 안의 사람들에게 그대로 적용된다. 교회는 사람 안에 있는 것이지 밖에 있지 않으며, 사랑과 신앙의 선을 지녀 그 안에 주님을 모신 사람은 누구나 그 사람 자신이 하나의 교회이다.주55 또 자기 안에 천국을 지닌 천사가 천국의 최소 형태이듯, 자기 안에 교회를 지닌 사람은 가장 작은 형태의 교회가 되고, 나아가서는 천사와 마찬가지로 천국이 된다. 사람은 천국에 들어가 천사가 되도록 창조되었기 때문이다. 따라서 주님으로 말미암은 선을 지닌 사람들은 사람-천사인 것이다.주56 여기서 사람과 천사의 공통점과 차이점을 언급하는 것이 좋을 듯하다. 공통점은, 그 내면이 천국의 형태를 따라 형성되었고, 그가 사랑과 신앙으로 선하게 되면, 천국의 형상을 이룬다는 점이다. 천사에게는 없고, 사람에게만 추가된 것은, 세상의 형태를 따라 지어진 외면이며, 이것은 그가 선하면 천국에 종속되어 천국을 섬기는 역할을 한다.주57 그렇게 될 때, 그 사람이 이 세상에 있으면서 동시에 그 자신의 천국에 있는 것처럼, 주님은 그 사람의 내면과 외면 안에 동시에 계신다. 주님은 질서 그 자체이시므로, 그 두 세계에 있는 당신의 신적 질서 안에 계시기 때문이다.주58 What has been said of heaven may be said also of the church, for the church is the Lord’s heaven on earth. There are also many churches, each one of which is called a church, and so far as the good of love and faith reigns therein is a church. Here, too, the Lord out of various parts forms a unity, that is, one church out of many churches.54 And the like may be said of the man of the church in particular that is said of the church in general, namely, that the church is within man and not outside of him; and that every man is a church in whom the Lord is present in the good of love and of faith.55 Again, the same may be said of a man that has the church in him as of an angel that has heaven in him, namely, that he is a church in the smallest form, as an angel is a heaven in the smallest form; and furthermore that a man that has the church in him, equally with an angel, is a heaven. For man was created that he might come into heaven and become an angel; consequently he that has good from the Lord is a man-angel.56 What man has in common with an angel and what he has in contrast with angels may be mentioned. It is granted to man, equally with the angel, to have his interiors conformed to the image of heaven, and to become, so far as he is in the good of love and faith, an image of heaven. But it is granted to man and not to angels to have his exteriors conform to the image of the world; and so far as he is in good to have the world in him subordinated to heaven and made to serve heaven.57 And then the Lord is present in him both in the world and in heaven just as if he were in his heaven. For the Lord is in his Divine order in both worlds, since God is order.58

 

 

주54. 어떤 교회든 선이 그 교회의 특징이요, 에센셜인 한, 선에서 분리된 진리가 아닌, 그 교회는 하나이다. If good were the characteristic and essential of the church, and not truth apart from good, the church would be one (n. 1285, 1316, 2982, 3267, 3445, 3451, 3452). 선으로 말미암아 모든 교회는 주님 앞에서 하나의 교회가 된다. From good all churches make one church before the Lord (n. 7396, 9276).

 

 

주55. 교회는 사람 안에 있지 밖에 있는 게 아니다. 교회는 자기 안에 교회를 가진 사람들로 구성된다. The church is in man, and not outside of him, and the church in general is made up of men that have the church in them (n. 3884, [6637]).

 

 

주56. 자기가 하나의 교회인 사람은 가장 큰 천국 모습을 닮은 가장 작은 형태의 천국이기도 하다. 그의 마음에 속한 그의 내면이 천국 형태를 따라 배열되어 있기 때문이며, 그 결과, 천국의 모든 걸 수용할 수 있기 때문이다. A man who is a church is a heaven in the smallest form after the image of the greatest, because his interiors, which belong to his mind, are arranged after the form of heaven, and consequently for reception of all things of heaven (n. 911, 1900, 1928, 3624–3631, 3634, 3884, 4041, 4279, 4523, 4524, 4625, 6013, 6057, 9279, 9632).

 

 

주57. 사람은 내면과 외면이 있다. 내면은 천국 이미지를 따라 형성되었고, 외면은 세상 이미지를 따라 되었다. 이런 이유로, 사람을 가리켜 고대인들은 소(小)우주라 하였다. Man has an internal and an external; his internal is formed by creation after the image of heaven, and his external after the image of the world; and for this reason man was called by the ancients a microcosm (n. 3628, 4523, 4524, 5115, 5368, 6013, 6057, 9279, 9706, 10156, 10472). 이런 이유로, 사람은 자기 안에 있는 세상으로 하여금 천국을 섬기도록 창조되었으며, 이런 일은 선과 함께 일어난다. 그러나 자기 안에서 천국으로 하여금 지옥을 섬기게 하는 사람한테는 악과 함께 정반대가 된다. Therefore man was created to have the world in him serve heaven, and this takes place with the good; but it is the reverse with the evil, in whom heaven serves the world (n. 9278, 9283).

 

 

주58. 주님은 질서이시다. 주님으로부터 나오는 신적 선과 진리가 질서를 만든다. The Lord is order, since the Divine good and truth that go forth from the Lord make order (n. 1728, 1919, 2011, 2258, 5110, 5703, 8988, 10336, 10619). 신적 진리는 질서에 관한 법이다. Divine truths are laws of order (n. 2447, 7995). 사람이 질서를 따라 사는 한, 즉 사람이 신적 진리와 일치하는 선 안에 거하는 한, 그는 사람이며, 교회와 천국이 그 사람 안에 있다. So far as a man lives according to order, that is, so far as he lives in good in accordance with Divine truths, he is a man, and the church and heaven are in him (n. 4839, 6605, 8513, [8547]).
