천국의 모든 것과 사람의 모든 것 간에는 어떤 상응이 존재한다

먼저 상응이 무엇인지 설명하겠다. 자연계 전체는 영계에 상응하는데, 단지 일반적으로만이 아니라 세부적인 모든 것이 상응한다. 따라서 영계로부터 나와서 자연계에 존재하는 모든 것이 영계와 상응한다고 할 수 있다. 반드시 알아야 할 것은, 자연계는 영계로부터 생겨나고(springs from) 영계에 의해 지속된다(has permanent existence from)는 것이다. 이 관계는 정확히 결과와 원인의 관계와 같다. 여기서 자연계는 태양 아래 그 빛과 열을 받는 모든 것과 그 전체 범위를 말한다. 거기서 형성돼 지속되는 모든 것이 자연계에 속한다. 그러나 영계는 천국을 말하고, 천국의 모든 것은 영계에 속한다. First, what correspondence is. The whole natural world corresponds to the spiritual world, and not merely the natural world in general, but also every particular of it; and as a consequence everything in the natural world that springs from the spiritual world is called a correspondent. It must be understood that the natural world springs from and has permanent existence from the spiritual world, precisely like an effect from its effecting cause. All that is spread out under the sun and that receives heat and light from the sun is what is called the natural world; and all things that derive their subsistence therefrom belong to that world. But the spiritual world is heaven; and all things in the heavens belong to that world.
