‘라멕’이라는 교회는 교회 내 진리와 선에 관한 퍼셉션이 너무나 일반적이고 뿌예서 더이상 그 다음이 없을 정도였고, 그래서 교회가 황폐한 상태가 되었다라는 것은 선행 장에서 언급한 내용에도 나오고, 이어지는 구절에도 나옵니다. 앞장에서 ‘라멕’은 여기 라멕과 거의 같은 걸 상징하는데요, 바로 황폐함입니다. (창4:18-19, 23-24 참조) 그리고 그를 낳은 자 역시 거의 비슷한 이름인 ‘므드사엘’인데요, 이런 걸 보면 이 이름들이 의미하는 바가 거의 같다는 걸 알 수 있습니다. ‘므드사엘’과 ‘므두셀라’는 곧 죽게 될 무언가를, ‘라멕’은 무엇인가 파괴, 파멸되는 것을 의미합니다. That by “Lamech” is signified a church wherein the perception of truth and good was so general and obscure as to be next to none, consequently a church vastated, appears from what was said in the preceding chapter, and from what follows in the next verse. “Lamech” in the preceding chapter has nearly the same signification as in this, namely, vastation (concerning which see Gen. 4:18, 19, 23, 24); and he who begat him is also called by nearly the same name, “Methusael,” so that the things signified by the names are nearly the same. By “Methusael” and “Methuselah” is signified something that is about to die; and by “Lamech” what is destroyed.

이 교회의 퀄러티에 관해서는 아무것도 언급할 게 없습니다. 퍼셉션 역량 역시 그저 일반적이고 흐릿했음은 ‘노아’라는 교회에 관한 설명을 보시면 분명한데요, 그 결과, 완벽함의 감소와 함께 지혜와 지성 역시 그랬습니다. Nothing is mentioned concerning the quality of this church; but that its perceptive faculty was general and obscure, is evident from the description of the church called “Noah”; so that perfection decreased, and with perfection wisdom and intelligence.

‘므두셀라’는 여덟 번째 교회, ‘라멕’은 아홉 번째 교회라는 뜻입니다. By “Methuselah” is signified an eighth church, and by “Lamech” a ninth.

※ ‘하나님과 동행’, ‘자녀들을 낳았다’의 속뜻

22절, 므두셀라를 낳은 후 삼백 년을 하나님과 동행하며 자녀들을 낳았으며 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

‘하나님과 동행’은 신앙에 관한 교리를 상징합니다. 그가 ‘자녀들을 낳았다’는 것은 선과 진리에 관한 교리적인 것들을 상징합니다. To “walk with God” signifies doctrine concerning faith. That he “begat sons and daughters” signifies doctrinal matters concerning truths and goods.

21절, 에녹은 육십오 세에 므두셀라를 낳았고 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah.

전에 말씀드린 대로, ‘에녹’은 일곱 번째 교회를, ‘므두셀라’는 여덟 번째 교회를 상징합니다. By “Enoch,” as before said, is signified a seventh church; and by “Methuselah” an eighth.
