CONTINUATION

CONCERNING THE ENTRANCE INTO ETERNAL LIFE OF 

THOSE WHO ARE RAISED FROM DEATH

 

 

182. 어떤 소생한 사람과 함께 있을 때, 천적 천사들은 그를 떠나지 않습니다. 그들은 모든 사람을 사랑하기 때문이지요. 그러나 그 영혼이 천적 천사들과 함께할 수 없는, 즉 천적 천사들하고는 맞지 않는 그런 캐릭터(such a character that he can no longer be in the company of the celestial angels)일 경우, 그 영혼은 그들로부터 떠나기를 간절히 원하는(is eager to)데요, 그럴 경우, 이번에는 영적 천사들이 옵니다. 영적 천사들은 와서 그가 빛을 사용할 수 있게 해줍니다. 그전까지는 그는 아무것도 볼 수 없었어요. 그저 생각만 할 수 있었기 때문입니다. When the celestial angels are with a resuscitated person, they do not leave him, for they love everyone; but when the soul is of such a character that he can no longer be in the company of the celestial angels, he is eager to depart from them; and when this takes place the spiritual angels arrive, and give him the use of light, for previously he had seen nothing, but had only thought.  

 

※ 보통 천사들, 특히 천적 천사들하고 있으면 누구나 다 ‘와!!!’ 하고 좋아할 것 같지만 실상은 그렇지가 않습니다. 천적 천사들은 삼층천 천사로 이해하셔도 되는데요, 이런 천사들조차 자기 곁에 있으면 굉장히 불편한 그런 사람들, 그런 영혼들이 있는 이유는, 그들의 지상에서의 삶이 기본적으로 악하고 거짓되었기 때문이지요. 빛과 어둠이 공존할 수 없는 것과 같은 것입니다.

 

※ 선인이든 악인이든 사후 일단 중간 영계에서 눈을 뜨는데요, 중간 영계란 천국도, 지옥도 아닌 상태를 말합니다. 우리 기독교인들, 특히 개신교인들은 죽었다가 눈 뜨면 그곳이 바로 천국이거나 지옥인 줄 아는데요, 그러나 그것은 모든 걸 너무 단순화한 것이고요, 일단은 아직 천국도, 지옥도 아닌, 임종 시 상태 그대로 중간 영계에서 눈을 뜹니다. 그 이유는, 천국이든 지옥이든 100% 선하든지, 100% 악해야만 들어갈 수 있는 곳, 상태이기 때문이지요. 중간 영계에서 이 100% 상태가 된 후, 천국으로 올라가거나 지옥으로 떨어지며, 그 걸리는 기간은 개인마다 다 다릅니다.

 

※ 선인이든 악인이든 천사들은 이렇게 중간 영계에서 깨어나는 모든 영에게 자기들이 할 수 있는 풀 서비스를 제공하는데요, 그 모습은 마치 지상 산부인과 신생아실 모습 같기도 합니다. 눈부터 뜨게 하는 것 역시 비슷하고요. 천사들은 무슨 일에 쓰임 받든 이렇게 사랑하고 섬기며, 돌보고 시중드는 일을 가장 즐거워합니다.

 

 

183. 저는 이 일, 곧 이 영적 천사들이 이 사람의 눈을 어떻게 뜨게 하는지 보았는데요, 그들은 마치 왼쪽 눈꺼풀을 코의 중격(中隔, 구조들을 분리하는 막이나 근육, septum) 쪽으로 마는(roll off the coat of the left eye toward the septum of the nose) 것처럼 보였습니다. 그렇게 해서 비로소 눈을 떠 빛을 사용할 수 있게 하기 위해서이지요. 그 사람한테는 그게 진짜로 일어난 것처럼 보이지만, 그러나 사실은 외관(外觀, an appearance), 즉 그렇게 보일 뿐인 것입니다. I was shown how these angels work. They seemed to as it were roll off the coat of the left eye toward the septum of the nose, in order that the eye might be opened and the use of light be granted. To the man it appears as if this were really done, but it is only an appearance.

 

 

184. 이 얇은 막이 이렇게 마치 돌돌 말린 것처럼 보인 후에, 드디어 빛이 조금 보이는데요, 하지만 아직은 희미합니다. 마치 사람이 막 잠에서 깼을 때 눈꺼풀을 통해 보는 것처럼 말이지요. 그리고 이 소생 중인 사람은 이때 어떤 고요한 상태(a tranquil state) 가운데 있는데요, 이때까지도 여전히 천적 천사들의 가이드는 계속되고 있습니다. 그런 다음, 작은 별과 함께 일종의 하늘색 그림자가 나타나는데요, 그런데 저는 이것은 사람마다 다양하다는 걸 알았습니다(perceived). After this little membrane has been thus in appearance rolled off, some light is visible, but dim, such as a man sees through his eyelids when he first awakes out of sleep; and he who is being resuscitated is in a tranquil state, being still guarded by the celestial angels. There then appears a kind of shadow of an azure color, with a little star, but I perceived that this takes place with variety.

 

 

185. 그 후 얼굴에서 무언가 부드럽게 벗겨지는 것 같으면서 퍼셉션이 그에게 전달되는데요, 이때 천사들은 그에게서 어떤 부드럽고 상냥한, 사랑에 속한 것들(such as is of a soft and tender nature, as of love)이 아닌, 다른 생각들이 나오지 못하도록 막기 위해 특히 조심합니다. 천사들은 그에게 그가 이제 영이 되었음(he is a spirit)을 알려줍니다. Afterwards there seems to be something gently unrolled from the face, and perception is communicated to him, the angels being especially cautious to prevent any idea coming from him but such as is of a soft and tender nature, as of love; and it is now given him to know that he is a spirit.

 

 

186. 그런 다음 그는 자신의 삶을 시작하는데요, 처음에는 행복하고 기쁘지요. 왜냐하면 그는 자기가 영생에 들어온 것 같기 때문입니다. 이 모든것이 나중에 아름다운 황금빛 기운을 띠게 되는, 밝고 환한 빛(a bright white light that becomes of a beautiful golden tinge)으로 표현되는데요, 영적, 천적인 그의 첫 번째 삶은 이렇게 멋지게(to wit) 상징됩니다(by which is signified his first life, to wit, that it is celestial as well as spiritual). He then commences his life. This at first is happy and glad, for he seems to himself to have come into eternal life, which is represented by a bright white light that becomes of a beautiful golden tinge, by which is signified his first life, to wit, that it is celestial as well as spiritual.

 

 

187. 다음으로 그를 선한 영들의 공동체(the society of good spirits)로 데려가는 것이 표현되는데요, 그것은 말 위에 앉아 있는, 그리고 지옥을 향하고 있는, 그러나 이 말은 한 걸음도 못 움직이는, 그런 어떤 젊은이로 표현됩니다. 그는 청년으로 표현되는데요, 그 이유는 그가 처음 영생에 들어갈 때, 그가 천사들 가운데 있기 때문이며, 그래서 그에게는 이런 게 마치 자기가 젊음의 꽃(the flower of youth) 가운데 있는 것처럼 보이기 때문입니다. His being next taken into the society of good spirits is represented by a young man sitting on a horse and directing it toward hell, but the horse cannot move a step. He is represented as a youth because when he first enters upon eternal life he is among angels, and therefore appears to himself to be in the flower of youth.

 

 

188. 계속해서 그의 삶은 이번에는 말에서 내려 걸어가는 걸로 표현되는데요, 이는 그가 말을 그 자리에서 가게 할 수가 없기 때문입니다. 이것이 암시하는 바는 그는 먼저 참되고 선한 것에 관한 지식(the knowledges of what is true and good)부터 배워야 한다는 것입니다. His subsequent life is represented by his dismounting from the horse and walking on foot, because he cannot make the horse move from the place; and it is insinuated to him that he must be instructed in the knowledges of what is true and good.

 

 

189. 그 후 완만하니 위로 경사진 길이 보였는데, 이는 참되고 선한 것에 관한 지식과 진정성 있는 인정(self-acknowledgment)을 가지고 천국을 향해 단계적으로 인도되어야 함을 의미합니다. 그러한 진정성 있는 인정과 참되고 선한 것에 관한 지식 없이는 아무도 그곳으로 인도될 수 없기 때문이지요. 이 주제에 관한 내용은 이 장의 끝부분에서 계속됩니다. Afterwards pathways were seen sloping gently upward, which signify that by the knowledges of what is true and good, and by self-acknowledgment, he should be led by degrees toward heaven; for no one can be conducted thither without such self-acknowledgment, and the knowledges of what is true and good. A continuation of this subject may be seen at the end of this chapter.
