2-3절, 2여자가 뱀에게 말하되 동산 나무의 열매를 우리가 먹을 수 있으나 3동산 중앙에 있는 나무의 열매는 하나님의 말씀에 너희는 먹지도 말고 만지지도 말라 너희가 죽을까 하노라 하셨느니라 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the tree of the garden; But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

‘동산 나무의 열매’(The fruit of the tree of the garden)는 태고교회로부터 그들에게 드러난 선과 진리입니다. ‘동산 중앙에 있는, 그들이 먹어서는 안 되는 나무의 열매’(the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, of which they were not to eat)는 신앙의 선과 진리인데, 이는 그들이 자신들한테 배워서는 안 되는 겁니다. ‘만지지도 말라’(not to touch it)는 신앙의 선과 진리에 관한 생각을 자신들한테나 감각과 기억-지식을 가지고 하는 걸 금하시는 것입니다. ‘너희가 죽을까 하노라’(lest ye die)는 그랬다가는 신앙, 즉 주님으로부터 오는 모든 지혜와 총명이 사라지기 때문이지요. The “fruit of the tree of the garden” is the good and truth revealed to them from the most ancient church; the “fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, of which they were not to eat” is the good and truth of faith, which they were not to learn from themselves; “not to touch it” is a prohibition against thinking of the good and truth of faith from themselves, or from what is of sense and memory-knowledge [sensuali et scientifico]; “lest ye die” is because thus faith, or all wisdom and intelligence, would perish.
