20절, 아담이 그의 아내의 이름을 하와라 불렀으니 그는 모든 산 자의 어머니가 됨이더라 And the man [homo] called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

주님 신앙, 여기서 주님은 생명 그 자체이신 분인데 그런 분에 대한 신앙을 소유한 결과, 그녀를 일컬어 ‘모든 산 자의 어머니’(the mother of all living)라고 했다는 것 역시 이미 지금까지 보여드린 사실들로 분명합니다. 모든 생명이 시작되는 생명, 그런 생명은 둘 이상 있을 수 없습니다 (AC.2). 그리고 생명이면서 주님 신앙으로 말미암지 않는, 그런 생명 또한 있을 수 없는데요, 바로 주님이 생명이시기 때문이지요 (AC.30.2). 그 안에 생명이 있는 신앙이면서 주님을 제외한, 결과적으로 그 안에 주님이 안 계시는 그런 신앙 역시 있을 수 없습니다 (AC.41). 이런 이유로, 말씀에서 주님은 홀로 ‘살아 계시다’(living) 일컬음을 받으시며, ‘살아 계신 여호와’(the living Jehovah)라 불리십니다 (렘5:2; 12:16; 16:14, 15; 23:7; 겔5:11). ‘영생하시는 이’(he that liveth to eternity)로도 (단4:34; 계4:10; 5:14; 10:6); ‘생명의 원천’(the fountain of life) (시36:9); ‘생수의 근원’(the fountain of living waters)으로도 불리십니다 (렘17:13). 천국(주님에 의한, 또는 주님으로 말미암는)을 일컬어 ‘산 자의 땅’(the land of the living)이라 하며 (사38:11; 53:8; 겔26:20; 32:23–27, 32; 시27:13; 52:5; 142:5), 주님 신앙 안에 있는 사람들을 가리켜 ‘살아있는’(living) 사람들이라고도 합니다. 시편에서처럼, That she was called the “mother of all living” in consequence of possessing faith in the Lord, who is life itself, is also evident from what has been already shown. There cannot be more than one life, from which is the life of all, and there can be no life, which is life, except through faith in the Lord, who is the life, nor can there be faith in which is life, except from him, consequently unless he is in it. On this account, in the Word, the Lord alone is called “living,” and is named the “living Jehovah” (Jer. 5:2; 12:16; 16:14, 15; 23:7; Ezek. 5:11); “he that liveth to eternity” (Dan.4:34; Rev. 4:10; 5:14; 10:6); the “fountain of life” (Ps. 36:9); the “fountain of living waters” (Jer. 17:13). Heaven (which lives by or from him) is called the “land of the living” (Isa. 38:11; 53:8; Ezek. 26:20; 32:23–27, 32; Ps. 27:13; 52:5; 142:5). And those are called “living” who are in faith in the Lord; as in David:
그는 우리 영혼을 살려 두시고 우리의 실족함을 허락하지 아니하시는 주시로다 (시66:9) Who putteth our soul among the living. (Ps. 66:9)
그리고 신앙을 소유한 사람들을 일컬어 ‘생명책에’(in the book of lives)(시69:28; 계13:8; 17:8; 20:15) 있다 합니다. 그래서 또한 주님 신앙을 받아들인 사람들이 ‘살아났다’(to be made alive)는 말을 듣는 것입니다 (호6:2; 시85:6). 다른 한편으로, 신앙 안에 있지 않은 사람들을 일컬어서는 ‘죽었다’(dead)고 하지요. 이사야에 보면, And those who possess faith are said to be “in the book of lives”(Ps. 69:28), and “in the book of life”(Rev. 13:8; 17:8; 20:15). Wherefore also those who receive faith in him are said to be “made alive”(Hos. 6:2; Ps. 85:6). On the other hand it follows that those who are not in faith are called “dead”; as in Isaiah:
그들은 죽었은즉 다시 살지 못하겠고 사망하였은즉 일어나지 못할 것이니 이는 주께서 벌하여 그들을 멸하사 그들의 모든 기억을 없이하셨음이니이다 (사26:14) The dead shall not live; the Rephaim shall not rise again, because thou hast visited and destroyed them, (Isa. 26:14)
자아 사랑(the love of self)으로 부풀어 오른 사람들을 의미하면서 말입니다. ‘다시 사는 것’(to rise again)은 생명 안으로 들어가는 걸 말합니다. 그들은 또한 ‘칼에 죽임을 당했다’(to be pierced)라는 말을 듣습니다. (겔32:23–26, 28–31) 그들은 또한 주님에 의해서도 ‘죽었다’(dead)는 말을 듣습니다. (마4:16; 요5:25; 8:21, 24, 51, 52) 지옥 또한 ‘사망’(death)이라고 합니다. (사25:8; 28:15) meaning those who are puffed up with the love of self; to “rise again” signifies to enter into life. They are also said to be “pierced”(Ezek. 32:23–26, 28–31). They are also called “dead” by the Lord(Matt. 4:16; John 5:25; 8:21, 24, 51, 52). Hell also is called “death”(Isa. 25:8; 28:15).
