AC.396, 창4:15, '여호와께서 그에게 이르시되 그렇지 아니하다' (AC.392-396)

※ ‘가인에게 표를 주사 그를 만나는 모든 사람에게서 죽임을 면하게 하시니라’의 속뜻, 가인 신앙이 보존될 수 있도록 주님이 어떤 특별한 방식으로 구별하셨다

 

15절, 여호와께서 그에게 이르시되 그렇지 아니하다 가인을 죽이는 자는 벌을 칠 배나 받으리라 하시고 가인에게 표를 주사 그를 만나는 모든 사람에게서 죽임을 면하게 하시니라 And Jehovah said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And Jehovah set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should smite him.

‘가인에게 표를 주사 그를 만나는 모든 사람에게서 죽임을 면하게 하시니라’의 의미가 가인 신앙이 보존될 수 있도록 주님이 특별한 방식으로 구별하셨음이라는 것은 어떤 구별 수단이 될 수 있도록 누군가에게 주시는 ‘표’와, ‘표를 주사’의 의미를 보면 분명합니다. 그래서 에스겔에서 That “Jehovah set a mark on Cain, lest anyone should smite him” signifies that the Lord distinguished faith in a particular manner in order that it might be preserved, is evident from the signification of a “mark,” and of “setting a mark” on anyone, as being a means of distinction. Thus in Ezekiel:

 

여호와께서 이르시되 너는 예루살렘 성읍 중에 순행하여 그 가운데에서 행하는 모든 가증한 일로 말미암아 탄식하며 우는 자의 이마에 표를 그리라 하시고 (겔9:4) Jehovah said, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and make a mark on (or designate) the foreheads of the men groaning and sighing for all the abominations, (Ezek. 9:4)

 

여기 ‘이마에 표를 그리라’의 의미는 그들의 이마에 무슨 표나 선을 그리라는 의미가 아니라 다른 사람들로부터 그들을 구별하라는 의미입니다. 그래서 계시록에서 말씀하시기를 where by “marking out the foreheads,” is not meant a mark or line upon the front part of their heads, but to distinguish them from others. So in John, it is said that

 

그들에게 이르시되 땅의 풀이나 푸른 것이나 각종 수목은 해하지 말고 오직 이마에 하나님의 인침을 받지 아니한 사람들만 해하라 하시더라 (계9:4) The locusts should hurt only those men who had not the mark of God on their foreheads, (Rev. 9:4)

 

여기서도 ‘인침’, 즉 표를 받는 것은 구별되는 것을 의미합니다. where also to have the mark means to be distinguished.

 

[2] 계시록 다른 곳에서도 보면, ‘그 오른손에나 이마에 표를 받게’(계13:16)라고 되어 있습니다. 모세의 책, 관련 내용을 보면, 유대 교회에서 크고 첫째 되는 계명을 ‘손목에 매어 기호를 삼으며 미간에 붙여 표를 삼으라’ 하였는데 이 역시 같은 걸 표현하는 것입니다. And in the same book we read of a “mark on the hand and on the forehead.” (Rev. 13:16) The same thing was represented in the Jewish church by binding the first and great commandment on the hand and on the forehead, concerning which we read in Moses:

 

4이스라엘아 들으라 우리 하나님 여호와는 오직 유일한 여호와이시니, 8너는 또 그것을 네 손목에 매어 기호를 삼으며 네 미간에 붙여 표로 삼고 (신6:4, 8) Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our God is one Jehovah; (Deut. 6:4, 8)

 

13내가 오늘 너희에게 명하는 내 명령을 너희가 만일 청종하고 너희의 하나님 여호와를 사랑하여 마음을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 섬기면, 18이러므로 너희는 나의 이 말을 너희의 마음과 뜻에 두고 또 그것을 너희의 손목에 매어 기호를 삼고 너희 미간에 붙여 표를 삼으며 (신11:13, 18) and thou shalt love Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and thou shalt bind these words for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. (Deut. 11:13, 18)

 

사랑에 관한 계명을 다른 어떤 계명보다도 더 높이 구별해야 함을 그들은 이런 식으로 표현하였고, 이런 이유로, ‘손목과 미간에 붙여 표를 삼으라’의 의미가 분명해지는 것입니다. By this was represented that they should distinguish the commandment respecting love above every other, and hence the signification of “marking the hand and the forehead” becomes manifest.

 

[3] 그래서 이사야에서 So in Isaiah:

 

18내가 그들의 행위와 사상을 아노라 때가 이르면 뭇 나라와 언어가 다른 민족들을 모으리니 그들이 와서 나의 영광을 볼 것이며 19내가 그들 가운데에서 징조를 세워서 그들 가운데에서 도피한 자를 여러 나라 곧 다시스와 뿔과 활을 당기는 룻과 및 두발과 야완과 또 나의 명성을 듣지도 못하고 나의 영광을 보지도 못한 먼 섬들로 보내리니 그들이 나의 영광을 뭇 나라에 전파하리라 (사66:18-19) I come to gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and shall see my glory; and I will set a mark upon them. (Isa. 66:18–19)

 

그리고 시편에서 And in David:

 

16내게로 돌이키사 내게 은혜를 베푸소서 주의 종에게 힘을 주시고 주의 여종의 아들을 구원하소서 17은총의 표적을 내게 보이소서 그러면 나를 미워하는 그들이 보고 부끄러워하오리니 여호와여 주는 나를 돕고 위로하시는 이시니이다 (시86:16-17) O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me, give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thy handmaid. Set upon me a mark for good, and they that hate me shall see and be ashamed. (Ps. 86:16–17)

 

이들 여러 구절들을 통해서 표의 의미를 이제 분명히 알 수 있습니다. 그러므로 앞으로는 가인이라고 하는 어떤 특별한 한 사람에게 무슨 눈에 보이는 표를 준 것으로 생각하는 사람이 없도록 합시다. 말씀의 속뜻에는 겉 글자의 뜻에 들어있는 것하고는 아주 다른 게 들어있기 때문입니다. From these passages the meaning of a mark is now evident. Let no one therefore imagine that any mark was set upon a particular person called Cain, for the internal sense of the Word contains things quite different from those contained in the sense of the letter.
