39. 20절, 하나님이 이르시되 물들은 생물을 번성하게 하라 땅 위 하늘의 궁창에는 새가 날으라 하시고 Verse 20. And God said, Let the waters cause to creep forth the creeping thing, the living soul; and let fowl fly above the earth upon the faces of the expanse of the heavens.

 

큰 광명체들이 속 사람 안에 자리를 잡고 불이 켜지면, 겉 사람은 그들로부터 빛을 받습니다. 그때 비로소 사람은 처음으로 살기 시작합니다. After the great luminaries have been kindled and placed in the internal man, and the external receives light from them, then the man first begins to live.

 

※ 속 사람 안 두 큰 광명체는 사랑과 신앙입니다. 이렇게 속 사람과 겉 사람의 준비가 끝난 사람이라야 생명이 시작되었다 말 할 수 있습니다. 생명의 근원 되신 주님으로부터 생명의 빛을 받기 시작했기 때문입니다.

 

사람이 무슨 선을 행하면서 그 선이 자신에게서 나오는 줄 알고 살아왔다면, 또 무슨 진리를 말하면서도 역시 그렇게 여기며 살아왔다면, 그는 그동안 ‘살아온’ 것이라 할 수 없습니다. 사람이 이렇게 자신에게 사로잡혀 있는 동안은 그는 ‘죽은’ 상태이며, 그의 안에는 악과 거짓 밖에는 없기 때문입니다. 그래서 그에게서 나오는 모든 것은, 그게 무엇이든 사실은 모두 살아있는 게 아닙니다. 그 자체로 선인 그런 선을 사람이 자신으로 말미암을 수는 없기 때문입니다. Heretofore he can scarcely be said to have lived, inasmuch as the good which he did he supposed that he did of himself, and the truth which he spoke that he spoke of himself; and since man of himself is dead, and there is in him nothing but what is evil and false, therefore whatsoever he produces from himself is not alive, insomuch that he cannot, from himself, do good that in itself is good.

 

※ 오직 주님만이 선하시며, 주님만이 선의 근원이십니다. 달이 해의 빛을 받아 반사만 할 수 있는 것처럼, 사람도 주님의 선을 반사만, 전달만 할 수 있을 뿐입니다.

 

사람은 선을 마음먹는 것은 고사하고, 생각하는 것조차 사실은 할 수 없으며, 그 결과 선을 행한다는 것은 도저히, 오직 주님으로 말미암지 않고서는 절대로 불가능하다는 사실은, 신앙의 교리, 가르침을 보면 누구나 분명히 알 수 있습니다. 주님이 마태복음에서 다음과 같이 말씀하셨기 때문입니다. That man cannot even think what is good, nor will what is good, consequently cannot do what is good, except from the Lord, must be plain to everyone from the doctrine of faith, for the Lord says in Matthew:

 

대답하여 이르시되 좋은 씨를 뿌리는 이는 인자요 (마13:37) He that soweth the good seed is the son of man. (Matt. 13:37)

 

※ 그만큼 사람은 주님의 선과 진리로부터 정말 철저히 분리된 존재라는 사실을 깨달아야 합니다.

 

선은 그 유일하신 참 근원 되시는 분 아니고서는 어디서도 올 수 없습니다. 다른 데서 하신 주님 말씀입니다. Nor can any good come except from the real fountain of good, which is one only, as he says in another place:

 

예수께서 이르시되 네가 어찌하여 나를 선하다 일컫느냐 하나님 한 분 외에는 선한 이가 없느니라 (눅18:19) None is good save one, God. (Luke 18:19)

 

[2] 이런 정황에도 불구하고, 주님은 사람을 소생시키실 때, 즉 그를 거듭나게 하셔서 생명을 얻게 하실 때, 주님은 먼저 사람이 그가 선을 행하는 것도 자기요, 진리를 말하는 것도 자기 자신이라고 생각하더라도 그렇게 하도록 허용하십니다. 그 이유는, 이때는 사람이 그밖에 무슨 다른 걸 생각할 수도, 무슨 다른 방법으로 인도함을 받아 믿을 수도, ‘아, 모든 선과 진리는 오직 주님으로부터만 말미암는구나!’ 깨달을 수도 없기 때문입니다. Nevertheless when the Lord is resuscitating man, that is, regenerating him, to life, he permits him at first to suppose that he does what is good and speaks what is true from himself, for at that time he is incapable of conceiving otherwise, nor can he in any other way be led to believe, and afterwards to perceive, that all good and truth are from the Lord alone.

 

※ 김혜자 씨의 ‘꽃으로도 때리지 말라’는 책 이름이 생각납니다. 주님은 비록 그것이 옳고 정당하다 하더라도 만일 우리가 그 지적, 그 비판을 힘들어하며, 아파하겠다 여겨지시면, 대신 빙 돌아가며 기다리는 편을 택하십니다. 사랑 그 자체이신 주님은 우리를 사랑하시며, 시간이 걸리더라도 우리가 자원함으로 주님 편으로 돌아서기를 원하십니다. 그러나 그렇다고 해서 중간에 그저 수수방관만 하시는 분이 아닙니다. 불꽃 같은 두 눈으로 늘 우리를 붙드시며, 전능하신 섭리로 영원히 우리를 돌보시는 분입니다.

 

사람이 이런 식으로 생각하는 동안은 그의 선과 진리들은 ‘풀’과 ‘씨 맺는 채소’, 그리고 ‘씨 가진 열매 맺는 나무’에 비유될 수 있으며, 이 모든 것은 ‘못 움직이는’(inanimate), 즉 생물은 생물인데 움직이지 못하는 생물입니다. 그러나 이제 사람은 사랑과 신앙으로 활기를 띠게 되었고, 자기가 행하는 모든 선과 말하는 모든 진리를 행하시는 분은 사실은 주님이심을 믿습니다. 그는 이제는 먼저 ‘물에서 번성하는 생물들’, 그 다음 ‘땅 위를 나는 새들’, 끝으로 ‘짐승들’에 비유될 수 있습니다. 이 모든 것이 이제는 ‘움직이는’(animate) 것들이며, 그래서 언급하기를 ‘생물’이라 하는 것입니다. While man is thinking in such a way his truths and goods are compared to the “tender grass,” and also to the “herb yielding seed,” and lastly to the “tree bearing fruit,” all of which are inanimate; but now that he is vivified by love and faith, and believes that the Lord works all the good that he does and all the truth that he speaks, he is compared first to the “creeping things of the water,” and to the “fowls which fly above the earth,” and also to “beasts,” which are all animate things, and are called “living souls.”

 

 

40. ‘물들이 번성하게 하는 생물’은 겉 사람에게 속한 기억-지식(memory-knowledge)을 뜻합니다. ‘새들’은 보통은 합리적(rational)이고 지성적인(intellectual) 것들을 뜻하는데, 이 중 후자는 속 사람에게 속한 것입니다. By the “creeping things which the waters bring forth” are signified the memory-knowledge which belong to the external man; by “birds” in general, rational and intellectual things, of which the latter belong to the internal man.

 

‘수중 생물들’이나 ‘물고기들’이 기억-지식들을 가리킨다는 것은 이사야서를 보면 분명합니다. That the “creeping things of the waters,” or “fishes,” signify memory-knowledges is plain from Isaiah:

 

2내가 왔어도 사람이 없었으며 내가 불러도 대답하는 자가 없었음은 어찌 됨이냐 내 손이 어찌 짧아 구속하지 못하겠느냐 내게 어찌 건질 능력이 없겠느냐 보라 내가 꾸짖어 바다를 마르게 하며 강들을 사막이 되게 하며 물이 없어졌으므로 그 물고기들이 악취를 내며 갈하여 죽으리라 3내가 흑암으로 하늘을 입히며 굵은 베로 덮느니라 (사50:2-3) I came and there was no man; at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness; their fish shall stink because there is no water and shall die for thirst; I clothe the heavens with blackness. (Isa. 50:2–3)

 

[2] 에스겔서를 보면 더 분명합니다. 거기서 주님은 새 성전, 혹은 일반적으로는 어떤 새 교회 및 그 교회에 속한 사람이나 어떤 거듭난 사람을 묘사하시는데, 누구든지 거듭난 사람은 다 주님의 일종의 성전이라고 하시기 때문입니다. But it is still plainer from Ezekiel, where the Lord describes the new temple, or a new church in general, and the man of the church, or a regenerate person; for everyone who is regenerate is a temple of the Lord:

 

8그가 내게 이르시되 이 물이 동쪽으로 향하여 흘러 아라바로 내려가서 바다에 이르리니 이 흘러 내리는 물로 그 바다의 물이 되살아나리라 9이 강물이 이르는 곳마다 번성하는 모든 생물이 살고 또 고기가 심히 많으리니 이 물이 흘러 들어가므로 바닷물이 되살아나겠고 이 강이 이르는 각처에 모든 것이 살 것이며 10또 이 강가에 어부가 설 것이니 엔게디에서부터 에네글라임까지 그물 치는 곳이 될 것이라 그 고기가 각기 종류를 따라 큰 바다의 고기 같이 심히 많으려니와 (겔47:8-10) The Lord Jehovih said unto me, These waters that shall issue to the boundary toward the east, and shall come toward the sea, being led into the sea, and the waters shall be healed; and it shall come to pass that every living soul that shall creep forth, whithersoever the water of the rivers shall come, shall live, and there shall be exceeding much fish, because those waters shall come thither, and they shall heal, and everything shall live whither the river cometh; and it shall come to pass that fishers shall stand upon it from En-gedi to En-eglaim, with the spreading of nets shall they be; their fish shall be according to its kind, as the fish of the great sea, exceeding many. (Ezek. 47:8–10)

 

‘엔게디에서부터 에네글라임까지 그물 치는 어부들’은 자연적인(natural) 사람을 신앙의 진리로 가르칠 사람들이라는 의미입니다. “Fishers from En-gedi unto En-eglaim,” with the “spreading of nets,” signify those who shall instruct the natural man in the truths of faith.

 

※ 주님이 갈릴리 해변에서 제자들을 부르실 때 하신 말씀,

 

말씀하시되 나를 따라오라 내가 너희를 사람을 낚는 어부가 되게 하리라 하시니 (마4:19)

 

가 생각나는 대목입니다 ^^

 

[3] ‘새’가 합리적이고 지성적인 것들을 상징한다는 것은 예언서들, 가령, 이사야서를 보면 분명합니다. That “birds” signify things rational and intellectual is evident from the prophets; as in Isaiah:

 

내가 동쪽에서 사나운 날짐승을 부르며 먼 나라에서 나의 뜻을 이룰 사람을 부를 것이라 내가 말하였은즉 반드시 이룰 것이요 계획하였은즉 반드시 시행하리라 (사46:11) Calling a bird from the east, the man of my counsel from a distant land. (Isa. 46:11)

 

예레미야에서는 And in Jeremiah:

 

내가 본즉 사람이 없으며 공중의 새가 다 날아갔으며 (렘4:25) I beheld and lo there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. (Jer. 4:25)

 

에스겔서에도 In Ezekiel:

 

22주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시되 내가 백향목 꼭대기에서 높은 가지를 꺾어다가 심으리라 내가 그 높은 새 가지 끝에서 연한 가지를 꺾어 높고 우뚝 솟은 산에 심되 23이스라엘 높은 산에 심으리니 그 가지가 무성하고 열매를 맺어서 아름다운 백향목이 될 것이요 각종 새가 그 아래에 깃들이며 그 가지 그늘에 살리라 (겔17:22-23) I will plant a shoot of a lofty cedar, and it shall lift up a branch, and shall bear fruit, and be a magnificent cedar; and under it shall dwell every fowl of every wing, in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell. (Ezek. 17:22–23)

 

호세아서에서는 어떤 새 교회나 거듭난 사람에 관해 말씀하시면서 And in Hosea, speaking of a new church, or of a regenerate man:

 

그날에는 내가 그들을 위하여 들짐승과 공중의 새와 땅의 곤충과 더불어 언약을 맺으며 또 이 땅에서 활과 칼을 꺾어 전쟁을 없이하고 그들로 평안히 눕게 하리라 (호2:18) And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the wild beast of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the moving thing of the ground. (Hos. 2:18)

 

여기 ‘들짐승’은 정말 들짐승을, ‘새’는 그냥 새를 상징하는 게 아니라는 것이 누가 보아도 분명한 것은, 주님은 이들과 ‘언약을 맺겠다’ 하시기 때문입니다. That “wild beast” does not signify wild beast, nor “bird” bird, must be evident to everyone, for the Lord is said to “make a new covenant” with them.

 

 

41. 사람에게나 적절한 것들은 그게 무엇이든 거기에는 생명이 없습니다. 그게 얼핏 보기에 무슨 메인인 것처럼 보여도 사실은 그저 딱딱한 무슨 뼈나 까만 덩어리처럼 나타납니다. 그러나 주님으로 말미암는 것들은 그게 무엇이든 거기에는 생명이 있습니다. 거기에는 영적, 천적인 것이 들어 있으며, 만일 눈에 보이게 나타날 때는 사람의 모습으로, 그리고 살아 있는 것으로 나타납니다. Whatever is proper to man has no life in itself, and whenever it is made manifest to the sight it appears hard, like a bony and black substance; but whatever is from the Lord has life, containing within it that which is spiritual and celestial, which when presented to view appears human and living.

 

믿기 어렵겠지만, 그러나 정말 사실입니다. 천사 스피릿을 가진 모든 표현 하나, 모든 아이디어 하나, 그리고 모든 생각의 조각 하나하나에 이르기까지 이 모든 것들은 살아 있으며, 지극히 작은 조각들조차 그 안에 생명 그 자체이신 주님으로부터 말미암는 애정들을 담고 있다는 사실이 말입니다. It may seem incredible but is nevertheless most true, that every single expression, every single idea, and every least of thought in an angelic spirit, is alive, containing in its minutest particulars an affection that proceeds from the Lord, who is life itself.

 

※ 사람의 생명은 사랑입니다. 사랑의 주님께 사로잡힌 사람은 그 모든 언행에서 주님의 생명이 흘러나오며, 빛처럼 뿜어져 나옵니다. 주위 사람들은 그의 주변에서 사랑이 무엇인지를 온몸으로 목격하며, 생명력을 경험합니다.

 

그런 까닭에 주님으로 말미암는 것은 그것이 무엇이든 그 안에 생명이 있습니다. 그 안, 그것들 안에 주님을 향한 신앙이 있기 때문인데요, 이것이 바로 여기서 ‘생물’(living soul)이 상징하는 바입니다. 그리고 이 생물들은 또한 일종의 몸을 가지고 있는데요, 그것이 여기서 ‘스스로 움직이는 것’, ‘기는 것’이 가리키는 바입니다. 하지만 이들 진리들은 사람에게는 아직 너무 심오한 비밀들이어서, 여기서는 단지 ‘생물’, ‘스스로 움직이는 것’ 정도로만 표현되고, 또 다루어지고 있습니다. And therefore whatsoever things are from the Lord, have life in them, because they contain faith toward him, and are here signified by the “living soul”: they have also a species of body, here signified by “what moves itself” or “creeps.” These truths, however, are as yet deep secrets to man, and are now mentioned only because the “living soul,” and the “thing moving itself,” are treated of.

(속뜻)

우리는 비록 겉 사람의 일일지라도 열심히 기억-지식을 습득하여 그것들로 주님을 향한 신앙의 징검다리들이 되게 해야 하겠습니다. 그리고 주님의 빛을 구하여 주님 주신 모든 합리와 지성, 이성과 지혜로 우리의 속 사람을 채워야 하겠습니다.

 

※ 우리의 속 사람과 겉 사람이 어떻게 준비되며, 무엇으로 채워져야 하는지를 오늘 본문은 말씀하고 있습니다.

 

겉 사람은 기억-지식으로, 속 사람은 합리와 지성으로 채워지며, 번성, 충만해야 합니다.

 

그러나 이들은 ‘생물’, 곧 주님을 향한 신앙과 사랑의 생명이어야 합니다. 주님으로 말미암지 않은 지식, 합리, 지성은 참 지식, 참 합리, 참 지성이 아니며, 거기엔 생명이 없어 사실은 ‘죽은’ 것입니다. 오직 주님으로 말미암아야 합니다. 모든 공과 영광을 홀로 오직 주님께만 돌리는 것, 그것이 ‘사는 것’이요, 바로 ‘생명’, ‘생물’입니다. 아멘, 할렐루야!
