※ 사람이 영적인 한, 그의 전반적인 경향은 겉 사람에서 속 사람으로 나아갑니다. 반면, 그가 천적인 사람이 되어 사랑으로 선을 행하게 되면, 그때는 그의 전반적인 경향은 반대로 속 사람에게서 겉 사람으로 나아갑니다.

사람이 영적인 한, 그의 전반적인 경향은 겉 사람에서 속 사람으로 나아갑니다. 그래서 말씀에, ‘그들로 바다의 물고기와 하늘의 새와 가축과 온 땅과 땅에 기는 모든 것을 다스리게 하자’(Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the heavens, and over the beast, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.) 하신 것입니다. 반면, 그가 천적인 사람이 되어 사랑으로 선을 행하게 되면, 그때는 그의 전반적인 경향은 반대로 속 사람에게서 겉 사람으로 나아갑니다. 주님이 시편에서 자신을, 그리고 그렇게 주님의 모양인 천적 인간을 묘사하신 것처럼 말입니다. So long as man is spiritual, his dominion proceeds from the external man to the internal, as is here said: “Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the heavens, and over the beast, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” But when he becomes celestial, and does good from love, then his dominion proceeds from the internal man to the external, as the Lord, in David, describes himself, and thereby also the celestial man, who is his likeness:

6주의 손으로 만드신 것을 다스리게 하시고 만물을 그의 발 아래 두셨으니 7곧 모든 소와 양과 들짐승이며 8공중의 새와 바다의 물고기와 바닷길에 다니는 것이니이다 (시8:6-8) Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet, the flock and all cattle, and also the beasts of the fields, the fowl of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. (Ps. 8:6–8)

그래서 여기 먼저 ‘들짐승’(beasts)이, 그리고 차례대로 ‘새’(fowl), ‘바다의 물고기’(the fish of the sea)가 언급되고 있는데요, 그 이유는 천적 인간은 사랑에서 출발, 나아가기 때문입니다. 이 사랑은 의지(the will)에 속한 사랑, 즉 무엇을 의도할 때, 사랑으로 하는 것입니다. 여기서 영적 인간하고는 다른 점이, 영적 인간은 먼저 ‘물고기’(fishes)와 ‘새’(fowl)가 나오고, 나중에 ‘들짐승’(beasts)이 언급된다는 점입니다. 이 물고기와 새는 이해(the understanding)에 속하며, 이 이해는 곧 신앙에 속합니다. Here therefore “beasts” are first mentioned, and then “fowl,” and afterwards the “fish of the sea,” because the celestial man proceeds from love, which belongs to the will, differing herein from the spiritual man, in describing whom “fishes” and “fowl” are first named, which belong to the understanding, and this to faith; and afterwards mention is made of “beasts.”

※ 천적 인간과 영적 인간은 그 성향과 속성 등 근본적인 것이 정반대임을 알 수 있습니다. 천적 인간은 의지에서 출발, 이해로 나아간다면, 영적 인간은 반대로 이해에서 출발, 의지로 나아갑니다. 천적 인간은 가슴이 먼저 움직인다면, 영적 인간은 머리가 먼저 움직입니다. 천적 인간은 선의 사람인 반면, 영적 인간은 진리의 사람입니다. 참 다릅니다. 그래서 천국도 두 나라, 천적 나라, 영적 나라로 되어 있습니다.

‘형상’(the image) 관련해서는, 형상은 모양이 아니고, 모양처럼 생긴 것(an image is not a likeness, but is according to the likeness)이며, 그래서 말씀하시기를, ‘우리의 형상을 따라 우리의 모양대로 우리가 사람을 만들자’(Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.) 하신 것입니다. 영적(靈的, spiritual) 인간은 형상이고, 천적(天的, celestial) 인간은 모양, 즉 닮음, 유사함(similitude)입니다. As regards the “image,” an image is not a likeness, but is according to the likeness; it is therefore said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” The spiritual man is an “image,” and the celestial man a “likeness,” or similitude.

※ 형상, 이미지를 그릇으로 보면, 모양, 닮음은 그 그릇에 담긴 내용이라 할 수 있습니다. 사람도 그 겉모습만 보면 얼핏 주님의 이미지이지만, 실제 그의 행실, 성품, 인성 등 그 속에 담긴 내용을 가지고 주님을 닮았다, 안 닮았다 하는 걸 볼 수 있습니다.

이 장에서 다루고 있는 사람은 영적 인간입니다. 천적 인간은 다음 장에서 다룹니다. 영적 인간은, 일종의 ‘형상’(an image)인데요, 주님은 그를 가리켜 ‘빛의 아들’(a son of light)이라 하십니다. 요한복음입니다. In this chapter the spiritual man is treated of; in the following, the celestial. The spiritual man, who is an “image,” is called by the Lord a “son of light,” as in John:

35예수께서 이르시되 아직 잠시 동안 빛이 너희 중에 있으니 빛이 있을 동안에 다녀 어둠에 붙잡히지 않게 하라 어둠에 다니는 자는 그 가는 곳을 알지 못하느니라 36너희에게 아직 빛이 있을 동안에 빛을 믿으라 그리하면 빛의 아들이 되리라 예수께서 이 말씀을 하시고 그들을 떠나가서 숨으시니라 (요12:35-36) He that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. While ye have the light, believe in the light, that ye may be sons of light. (John 12:35–36)

그를 일컬어 ‘친구’(a friend)라고도 하시지요. He is called also a “friend”:

14너희는 내가 명하는 대로 행하면 곧 나의 친구라 15이제부터는 너희를 종이라 하지 아니하리니 종은 주인이 하는 것을 알지 못함이라 너희를 친구라 하였노니 내가 내 아버지께 들은 것을 다 너희에게 알게 하였음이라 (요15:14-15) Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you. (John 15:14–15)

그러나 천적 인간은, 이 사람이 ‘모양’(a likeness)인데요, 주님은 그를 가리켜 ‘하나님의 자녀’(a son of God)라 하십니다. 요한복음입니다. But the celestial man, who is a “likeness,” is called a “son of God,” in John:

12영접하는 자 곧 그 이름을 믿는 자들에게는 하나님의 자녀가 되는 권세를 주셨으니 13이는 혈통으로나4 육정으로나 사람의 뜻으로 나지 아니하고 오직 하나님께로부터 난 자들이니라 (요1:12-13) As many as received him, to them gave he the power to become sons of God, even to them that believe on his name; who were born not of bloods,4 nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12–13)

태고교회는 ‘주님의 형상’(the image of the Lord)이라는 표현으로 표현할 수 있는 것보다 더 많은 것을 이해하고 있었습니다. 사람은 자기가 천사들과 영들을 통해서 주님의 다스리심을 받고 있다는 것과 모든 사람한테는 영과 천사들이 최소한 둘씩 와 있다는 사실들을 거의 모르고 있습니다. The most ancient church understood by the “image of the Lord” more than can be expressed. Man is altogether ignorant that he is governed of the Lord through angels and spirits, and that with everyone there are at least two spirits, and two angels.

영들을 통해 사람은 영들의 세계와 커뮤니케이션을 하고, 천사들하고는 천국과 커뮤니케이션을 합니다. 영들을 통한 영들의 세계와의 커뮤니케이션 없이는, 그리고 천사들을 통한 천국과, 그리고 천국을 통한 주님과의 커뮤니케이션이 없이는 사람은 전혀 살 수 없습니다. 사람의 생명은 전적으로 이러한 결합에 달려 있으며, 그래서 만일 영들과 천사들이 떠나가 버리면 사람은 즉시 소멸될 것입니다. By spirits man has communication with the world of spirits, and by angels with heaven. [2] 아직 거듭남의 여정을 시작하지 않은 사람은 이미 시작한 사람과는 사뭇 다른 다스림을 받습니다. 아직 거듭남이 시작되지 않은 사람한테는 그와 함께하는 악한 영들이 매사 천사들보다 더 우위를 점하는 동시에, 이때 천사들은 그가 가장 저급한 악 안으로 거꾸러져 들어가는 대신 어떤 선 쪽으로 구부러지도록 그를 그저 겨우 가이드만 어떻게 해 볼 수 있을 뿐이며, 그마저도 사실, 그 사람의 탐욕을 가지고 선으로, 거짓된 감각을 가지고 진리로 구부리는 정도입니다. While man is unregenerate he is governed quite otherwise than when regenerated. While unregenerate there are evil spirits with him, who so domineer over him that the angels, though present, are scarcely able to do anything more than merely guide him so that he may not plunge into the lowest evil, and bend him to some good—in fact bend him to good by means of his own cupidities, and to truth by means of the fallacies of the senses.

※ 예를 들면, 자살하려고 최종 결심, 이제 막 실행에 옮기려는 순간, 어머니의 얼굴이 생각난다든지 또는, 탐욕의 끝에 가서 갑자기 그런 자신의 모습이 너무나 추하게 느껴진다든지, 그리고 성적으로 문란한 생활을 하던 중 어느 순간, 그런 감각의 충족이 가져다주는 모든 쾌락이 헛것이요, 부질없는 것임을 깨닫게 되는, 뭐 이런 경우들을 예로 들 수 있겠으며, 누가복음에 나오는, 아버지의 재산 중 제 몫을 먼저 달라 하여 그걸 가지고 먼 나라에 가 허랑방탕하다가 굶어 죽게 되자 정신을 차리게 된 둘째 아들 이야기가 바로 이런 경우가 되겠습니다.

그는 그렇게 자기하고 있는 영들을 통해 영들의 세계와 커뮤니케이션을 하지만, 천국하고는 아닙니다. 악한 영들이 그를 다스리기 때문이며, 이 경우, 천사들은 그들의 다스림을 외면할 뿐이기 때문입니다. He then has communication with the world of spirits through the spirits who are with him, but not so much with heaven, because evil spirits rule, and the angels only avert their rule.

※ 천사가 뭘 하고 싶어도 사람이 마음을 먹어야만 가능합니다. 이런 상황에서는 사람은 악한 영들에게 사로잡힌 나머지, 오직 악하고 거짓된 것만 마음먹기 때문에, 도무지 천사들이 무엇을 할 여지가, 그 결과, 도저히 천국하고는 커뮤니케이션을 할 여지가 없기 때문입니다. 사람의 애정이 악한 것을 좋아하여 악한 영들과 호흡이 맞는 한, 천사들은 멀찍이 떨어져 있게 됩니다. 그러므로 ‘나는 하나님의 자녀니까 설령 내가 뭘 잘못해도 하나님이 알아서 해주시겠지!’ 하는 것은 매우 무책임한 착각이요, 무지의 소치, 그리고 아주 위험한 생각임을 알 수 있습니다.

[3] 그러나 그가 거듭남 가운데 있게 되면, 그는 모든 선과 진리에 대해서는 천사들의 다스림(rule)과 격려를 받지만, 악과 거짓에 대해서는 두려워하며 끔찍하게 여기게 됩니다. 겉으로는 천사들이 다스리는(lead)것 같지만, 그들은 단지 사역자들일 뿐입니다. 천사들과 영들을 통해 사람을 다스리시는(governs) 분은 오직 주님뿐이시기 때문입니다. 이 일이 천사들의 사역을 통해서 이루어지기 때문에, 여기서는 먼저 복수(the plural number)로 이르시기를, ‘우리의 형상을 따라 우리가 사람을 만들자’(Let us make man in our image) 하는 것이며, 그러나 여전히 주님 홀로 다스리시며 다 하시기 때문에, 다음 구절에서는 단수(the singular number)로, ‘하나님이 자기 형상대로 사람을 창조하셨다’(God created him in his own image) 하시는 것입니다. 이 또한 주님이 이사야에서 분명히 선언하신 것입니다. But when the man is regenerate, the angels rule, and inspire him with all goods and truths, and with fear and horror of evils and falsities. The angels indeed lead, but only as ministers, for it is the Lord alone who governs man through angels and spirits. And as this is done through the ministry of angels, it is here first said, in the plural number, “Let us make man in our image”; and yet because the Lord alone governs and disposes, it is said in the following verse, in the singular number, “God created him in his own image.” This the Lord also plainly declares in Isaiah:

네 구속자요 모태에서 너를 지은 나 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 나는 만물을 지은 여호와라 홀로 하늘을 폈으며 나와 함께 한 자 없이 땅을 펼쳤고 (사44:24) Thus saith Jehovah thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I Jehovah make all things, stretching forth the heavens alone, spreading abroad the earth by myself. (Isa. 44:24)

천사들은 더더욱 스스로 이렇게들 고백합니다. ‘저희에게는 아무 힘이 없습니다. 오직 홀로 주님으로 말미암아 행하는 것입니다.’ The angels moreover themselves confess that there is no power in them, but that they act from the Lord alone.
