천국에서는 이 세상 해가 보이지 않고, 그 해에 의해 생겨난 그 어떤 것도 볼 수 없지만, 그러나 천국에도 해가 있고, 빛과 열, 그리고 세상에 있는 모든 것과, 그 외 무수히 많은 다른 것이 있다. 다만 근원이 다를 뿐이다. 천국에 있는 것은 영적이고, 세상에 있는 것은 자연적이기 때문이다. 천국의 해는 주님이시다. 그곳 빛은 신적 진리(the Divine truth)이며, 열은 신적 선(the Divine good that go forth from the Lord)이다. 이 두 가지는 해이신 주님으로부터 나온다. 이 근원으로부터 천국의 모든 것이 형성되고 나타난다. 이에 관해서는 다음 장에서 다루기로 하고, 여기서는 천국의 해에 대해서만 설명하겠다. 천국에서 주님이 해처럼 보이시는 이유는, 마치 이 세상 해에 의해 모든 자연 존재가 생기듯이 주님이 모든 영적 존재의 근원이신 신적 사랑(Divine love, from which all spiritual things)이시기 때문이다. 그 사랑이 해같이 빛나는 것이다. Although the sun of the world is not seen in heaven, nor anything from that sun, there is nevertheless a sun there, and light and heat, and all things that are in the world, with innumerable others, but not from a like origin; since the things in heaven are spiritual, and those in the world are natural. The sun of heaven is the Lord; the light there is the Divine truth and the heat the Divine good that go forth from the Lord as a sun. From this origin are all things that spring forth and are seen in the heavens. This light and heat and things existing therefrom in heaven will be treated of in the following chapters; in this chapter we will speak only of the sun there. In heaven the Lord is seen as a sun, for the reason that he is Divine love, from which all spiritual things, and by means of the sun of the world all natural things, have their existence. That love is what shines as a sun.

이 세상 해나 그 해로 인해 생겨난 것은 전적으로 자연적이기 때문에 천국에서는 보이지 않는다. 자연은 이 세상 해에서 시작되므로 해에 의해 생성되는 모든 것은 자연적(natural)이라고 불린다. 그러나 천국을 포함한 영계는 자연계를 초월해(above nature) 존재하고, 자연적인 것과는 전혀 다르며, 상응에 의하지 않고는 두 세계 사이의 교류도 있을 수 없다. 두 세계의 차이에 대해서는 단계를 설명할 때 (38번 글), 또 그 교류에 대해서는 앞의 두 장에서 상응을 설명할 때 이미 밝힌 바 있다. In heaven neither the sun of the world, nor anything from that sun, is seen, because it is wholly natural. For nature has its beginning from that sun, and whatever is produced by means of it is called natural. But the spiritual, to which heaven belongs, is above nature and wholly distinct from what is natural; and there is no communication between the two except by correspondences. What the distinction between them is may be understood from what has been already said about degrees (n. 38), and what the communication is from what has been said in the two preceding chapters about correspondences.
