다음과 같은 이름들, 곧, ‘셋’, ‘에노스’, ‘게난’, ‘마할랄렐’, ‘야렛’, ‘에녹’, ‘므두셀라’, ‘라멕’, ‘노아’로 이어지는 이름들은 매우 많은 교회들을 의미하는데, 그중 첫 번째, 제일의 교회를 ‘사람’이라 하였습니다. 이들 교회들의 가장 주된 특징은 퍼셉션이었고, 그런 이유로, 그 시절 교회들 간의 차이는 주로 퍼셉션의 차이였습니다. 이쯤에서 퍼셉션에 관한 말씀을 드려야 할 것 같은데요, 천국 그 어디에서든 천국을 다스리는 건 선과 진리에 관한 퍼셉션 말고는 없습니다. 그런데 이 퍼셉션은 어느 두 커뮤니티도 유사한 퍼셉션을 누리고 있지 않을 정도로 헤아릴 수 없이 다양하며, 도저히 설명 불가한 것인데요, 그 이유는 천국에 존재하는 퍼셉션들은 속(屬, Genus)과 종(種, Species)으로 분류되며, 속만으로도 셀 수가 없는데, 그 각각의 속에 속하는 종 역시 헤아릴 수 없이 많기 때문입니다. 이에 관하여는 주님의 신적 자비, 곧 주님의 허락을 받아 나중에 말씀드리겠습니다. (AC.1383-1400, 1504-1520) By the names which follow: “Seth,” “Enosh,” “Kenan,” “Mahalalel,” “Jared,” “Enoch,” “Methuselah,” “Lamech,” “Noah,” are signified so many churches, of which the first and principal was called “man.” The chief characteristic of these churches was perception, wherefore the differences of the churches of that time were chiefly differences of perception. I may here mention concerning perception, that in the universal heaven there reigns nothing but a perception of good and truth, which is such as cannot be described, with innumerable differences, so that no two societies enjoy similar perception; the perceptions there existing are distinguished into genera and species, and the genera are innumerable, and the species of each genus are likewise innumerable; but concerning these, of the Lord’s Divine mercy hereafter.
셀 수 없이 많은 속이 존재하고, 그 각 속에 딸린 종 또한 셀 수 없이 많으며, 더욱이 개별 종 안에서도 셀 수 없는 다양함이 있기 때문에, 분명한 사실은 천적, 영적인 것들에 관해 오늘날 세상이 알고 있다는 게 얼마나 미미한지, 미미하다 못해 거의 없을 정도라는 것입니다. 그들은 심지어 퍼셉션이라는 게 뭔지도 모르며, 만일 들어도 무슨 그런 것이 존재하느냐 하며 안 믿기 때문입니다. 그리고 그런 식으로 다른 것들 역시 마찬가지입니다. 태고교회는 주님의 천적 나라를 표현했습니다. 퍼셉션의 일반적, 구체적 아주 미세한 차이들에서조차 말이지요. 하지만 오늘날은 퍼셉션의 본성에 관해 가장 대충으로도 전혀 알려진 바 없기 때문에, 이들 교회들의 퍼셉션 그 속과 종 어떤 경우에 대해서도 그저 어둡고 이상하게만 보일 것입니다. 그 시절 그들은 가족, 가문 및 민족들로 구분되었으며, 결혼도 가족과 가문 내에서만 했습니다. 퍼셉션의 속, 종의 보존 및 종족 고유특성의 대물림처럼 부모를 통한 정확한 대물림을 위해서였지요. 이런 이유로, 과거 태고교회였던 사람들은 지금도 천국에서 함께 지냅니다. Since then there are innumerable genera, and innumerable species in each genus, and still more innumerable varieties in the species, it is evident how little—so little that it is almost nothing—the world at this day knows concerning things celestial and spiritual, since they do not know even what perception is, and if they are told, they do not believe that any such thing exists; and so with other things also. The most ancient church represented the celestial kingdom of the Lord, even as to the generic and specific differences of perception; but whereas the nature of perception, even in its most general aspect, is at this day utterly unknown, any account of the genera and species of the perceptions of these churches would necessarily appear dark and strange. They were at that time distinguished into houses, families, and nations, and contracted marriage within their houses and families, in order that genera and species of perceptions might exist, and be derived from the parents precisely as are the propagations of native character; wherefore those who were of the most ancient church dwell together in heaven.
