천적인 것들이 사랑의 거룩한 것들과 거기서 나오는 선들인 것처럼, 영적인 것들은 신앙의 진리들과 선들입니다. 참이 무엇이며, 선이 무엇인지를 이해하는 건 신앙에 속한 일이기 때문입니다. 이 둘은 둘 다 신앙의 지식들에 포함됩니다. 그러나 신앙의 가르침대로 되는 건 천적인 일입니다. 신앙에 이 둘이 포함되기 때문에, 이들이 두 개의 악기, ‘수금과 퉁소’로 상징되는 것입니다. 다들 아시듯, ‘수금’(The harp)은 현악기이며, 그래서 영적 진리를 의미하는 반면, 현악기와 관악기의 중간인 ‘퉁소’(the organ)는 영적 선을 의미합니다. As celestial things are the holy things of love and the derivative goods, so spiritual things are the truths and goods of faith; for it belongs to faith to understand not only what is true, but also what is good. The knowledges of faith involve both. But to be such as faith teaches is celestial. As faith involves both of these, they are signified by two instruments, the harp and the organ. The harp, as everyone knows, is a stringed instrument, and therefore signifies spiritual truth; but the organ, being intermediate between a stringed instrument and a wind instrument, signifies spiritual good.
