‘라멕’이라는 교회는 교회 내 진리와 선에 관한 퍼셉션이 너무나 일반적이고 뿌예서 더이상 그 다음이 없을 정도였고, 그래서 교회가 황폐한 상태가 되었다라는 것은 선행 장에서 언급한 내용에도 나오고, 이어지는 구절에도 나옵니다. 앞장에서 ‘라멕’은 여기 라멕과 거의 같은 걸 상징하는데요, 바로 황폐함입니다. (창4:18-19, 23-24 참조) 그리고 그를 낳은 자 역시 거의 비슷한 이름인 ‘므드사엘’인데요, 이런 걸 보면 이 이름들이 의미하는 바가 거의 같다는 걸 알 수 있습니다. ‘므드사엘’과 ‘므두셀라’는 곧 죽게 될 무언가를, ‘라멕’은 무엇인가 파괴, 파멸되는 것을 의미합니다. That by “Lamech” is signified a church wherein the perception of truth and good was so general and obscure as to be next to none, consequently a church vastated, appears from what was said in the preceding chapter, and from what follows in the next verse. “Lamech” in the preceding chapter has nearly the same signification as in this, namely, vastation (concerning which see Gen. 4:18, 19, 23, 24); and he who begat him is also called by nearly the same name, “Methusael,” so that the things signified by the names are nearly the same. By “Methusael” and “Methuselah” is signified something that is about to die; and by “Lamech” what is destroyed.

14절, 주께서 오늘 이 지면에서 나를 쫓아내시온즉 내가 주의 낯을 뵈옵지 못하리니 내가 땅에서 피하며 유리하는 자가 될지라 무릇 나를 만나는 자마다 나를 죽이겠나이다 Behold, thou hast cast me out this day from the faces of the ground; and from thy faces shall I be hid, and I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth; and it shall come to pass that everyone that findeth me shall slay me.

악과 거짓 가운데 있는 사람들은 죽임을 당할까 봐 끝없이 두려워합니다. 아래 모세의 글에 기록된 것처럼 말입니다. Those who are in evil and falsity are in continual dread of being slain, as is thus described in Moses:

33내가 너희를 여러 민족 중에 흩을 것이요 내가 칼을 빼어 너희를 따르게 하리니 너희의 땅이 황무하며 너희의 성읍이 황폐하리라, 36너희 남은 자에게는 그 원수들의 땅에서 내가 그들의 마음을 약하게 하리니 그들은 바람에 불린 잎사귀 소리에도 놀라 도망하기를 칼을 피하여 도망하듯 할 것이요 쫓는 자가 없어도 엎드러질 것이라 37그들은 쫓는 자가 없어도 칼 앞에 있음 같이 서로 짓밟혀 넘어지리니 너희가 원수들을 맞설 힘이 없을 것이요 (레26:33, 36-37) Your land shall be a desolation, and your cities a waste, and upon them that are left of you I will bring softness into their heart in the land of their enemies, and the sound of a driven leaf shall chase them, and they shall flee as fleeing from a sword, and they shall fall when none pursueth, and shall stumble everyone upon his brother, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth. (Lev. 26:33, 36–37)

이사야에 In Isaiah:

16땅 끝에서부터 노래하는 소리가 우리에게 들리기를 의로우신 이에게 영광을 돌리세 하도다 그러나 나는 이르기를 나는 쇠잔하였고 나는 쇠잔하였으니 내게 화가 있도다 배신자들은 배신하고 배신자들이 크게 배신하였도다 17땅의 주민아 두려움과 함정과 올무가 네게 이르렀나니 18두려운 소리로 말미암아 도망하는 자는 함정에 빠지겠고 함정 속에서 올라오는 자는 올무에 걸리리니 이는 위에 있는 문이 열리고 땅의 기초가 진동함이라 19땅이 깨지고 깨지며 땅이 갈라지고 갈라지며 땅이 흔들리고 흔들리며 20땅이 취한 자 같이 비틀비틀하며 원두막 같이 흔들리며 그 위의 죄악이 중하므로 떨어져서 다시는 일어나지 못하리라 (사24:16-20) The treacherous deal treacherously, yea, in the treachery of the treacherous they deal treacherously. And it shall come to pass that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit, and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare; the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it, and it shall fall, and not rise again. (Isa. 24:16–20)

예레미야에 In Jeremiah:

주 만군의 여호와의 말씀이니라 보라 내가 두려움을 네 사방에서 네게 오게 하리니 너희 각 사람이 앞으로 쫓겨 나갈 것이요 도망하는 자들을 모을 자가 없으리라 (렘49:5) Behold, I bring a dread upon thee, from all thy circuits shall ye be driven out every man toward his faces, and none shall gather up him that wandereth. (Jer. 49:5)

이사야에 In Isaiah:

16이르기를 아니라 우리가 말 타고 도망하리라 하였으므로 너희가 도망할 것이요 또 이르기를 우리가 빠른 짐승을 타리라 하였으므로 너희를 쫓는 자들이 빠르리니 17한 사람이 꾸짖은즉 천 사람이 도망하겠고 다섯이 꾸짖은즉 너희가 다 도망하고 너희 남은 자는 겨우 산 꼭대기의 깃대 같겠고 산마루 위의 기치 같으리라 하셨느니라 (사30:16-17) We will flee upon the horse, therefore shall ye flee; and, we will ride upon the swift, therefore shall they that pursue you be rendered swift; one thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one, at the rebuke of five shall ye flee. (Isa. 30:16–17)

이 구절들과 말씀 다른 구절들에서 거짓과 악 가운데 있는 사람들을 묘사하기를 ‘도망하다’, ‘죽임을 당할까 봐 두려워하다’ 하고 있습니다. 그들은 모든 사람을 두려워 하는데요, 자신들을 보호해 줄 사람이 아무도 없기 때문입니다. 악과 거짓 가운데 있는 모두가 자기들의 이웃을 미워합니다. 그래서 그렇게들 모두 서로 죽이고자 하는 것입니다. In these and other passages of the Word, those who are in falsity and evil are described as “fleeing,” and as in “fear of being slain.” They are afraid of everybody, because they have no one to protect them. All who are in evil and falsity hate their neighbor, so that they all desire to kill one another.
