1태초에 하나님이 천지를 창조하시니라 Verse 1, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

 

※ 1절 속뜻

 

사람의 거듭남 관련, ‘태초’는 그 첫 번째 시기를 말합니다. 사람을 거듭나게 하시는 분은 하나님이시며, 사람은 하나님에 의해 ‘천’, ‘지’, 곧 속 사람과 겉 사람으로 창조되었습니다.

 

 

16.태고(太古, The most ancient time)를 ‘태초’(太初, the beginning)라고 합니다. 선지서 여러 곳에서는 이때를 ‘옛날’(days of old,[antiquitatis])(신32:7, 왕하19:25, 시44:1)이라 하기도 하고, The most ancient time is called “the beginning.” By the prophets it is in various places called the “days of old” [antiquitatis]

 

옛날을 기억하라 역대의 연대를 생각하라 네 아버지에게 물으라 그가 네게 설명할 것이요 네 어른들에게 물으라 그들이 네게 말하리로다 (신32:7)

 

네가 듣지 못하였느냐 이 일은 내가 태초부터 행하였고 옛날부터 정한 바라 이제 내가 이루어 너로 견고한 성들을 멸하여 무너진 돌무더기가 되게 함이니라 (왕하19:25)

 

하나님이여 주께서 우리 조상들의 날 곧 옛날에 행하신 일을 그들이 우리에게 일러 주매 우리가 우리 귀로 들었나이다 (시44:1)

 

‘영원’(days of eternity)(시25:6)이라 하기도 합니다. and also the “days of eternity.”

 

여호와여 주의 긍휼하심과 인자하심이 영원부터 있었사오니 주여 이것들을 기억하옵소서 (시25:6)

 

‘태초’는 또한 거듭나는 중인 사람의 첫 번째 시기(the first period), 기간을 말하기도 하는데요, 이때 사람은 새롭게 태어나고, 생명을 받기 때문입니다. 그래서 거듭남 자체를 사람의 ‘새 창조’(a new creation)라고도 하지요. 선지서들 가운데 ‘창조하다’(to create), ‘짓다’(to form), ‘만들다’(to make)라는 표현들이 나오는 거의 모든곳에서 그 상징에 있어서는 차이가 있지만, 전부 거듭남을 의미합니다. 이사야를 보면, The “beginning” also involves the first period when man is being regenerated, for he is then born anew, and receives life. Regeneration itself is therefore called a “new creation” of man. The expressions to “create,” to “form,” to “make,” in almost all parts of the prophetic writings signify to regenerate, yet with a difference in the signification. As in Isaiah:

 

내 이름으로 불려지는 모든 자 곧 내가 내 영광을 위하여 창조한 자를 오게 하라 그를 내가 지었고 그를 내가 만들었느니라 (사43:7) Everyone that is called by my name, I have created him for my glory, I have formed him, yea, I have made him. (Isa. 43:7)

 

그리고 그래서 같은 선지서에서 주님은 ‘구속자’(the redeemer), ‘태에서부터 지으신 이’(the former from the womb), ‘만드신 이’(the maker)및 ‘창조자’(the creator)라 일컬음을 받으십니다. And therefore the Lord is called the “redeemer,” the “former from the womb,” the “maker,” and also the “creator”; as in the same prophet:

 

나는 여호와 너희의 거룩한 이요 이스라엘의 창조자요 너희의 왕이니라 (사43:15) I am Jehovah your holy one, the creator of Israel, your king. (Isa. 43:15)

 

시편에서는 In David:

 

이 일이 장래 세대를 위하여 기록되리니 창조함을 받을 백성이 여호와를 찬양하리로다 (시102:18) The people that is created shall praise Jah. (Ps. 102:18)

 

주의 영을 보내어 그들을 창조하사 지면을 새롭게 하시나이다 (시104:30) Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created, and thou renewest the faces of the ground. (Ps. 104:30)

 

‘천’(天, heaven)은 속 사람(the internal man)을, ‘지’(地, earth)는 아직 거듭나기 전인 겉 사람(the external man)을 의미한다는 것은 이어지는 내용을 통해 보실 수 있습니다. That “heaven” signifies the internal man and “earth” the external man before regeneration may be seen from what follows.
